All the Pretty Witches Page 23

“Really?” The skull’s eyes lit up. “You surprise me.”

“Why? It turns out I need a hand at the office.” Honora smiled.

  “Funny. Very funny.”

“That’s seven gold pieces,” the wizard said, hurrying up to her side. “The witch is trapped inside of the skull for the next three hundred years. The previous owner told me the skull had a long history in Everland and is like an encyclopedia of knowledge, especially in spellcraft. Knows everything there is to know. She’ll be a real asset.”

“Three hundred long years,” the skull said as if it was an eternity.

“I thought you said five gold pieces last time I was here,” Honora said.

“I’m not worth more than three,” the skull said. “In fact, three would be a bargain. I’m not feeling very cooperative. And I can be very cranky when I want to be.”

Honora hoped this was the witch inside the skull’s bargaining ploy because she didn’t want a cranky skull hanging around the office. Jenny and Sawyer thought the skull would be a cool addition to the team.

The sales wizard surrendered. “Four gold pieces and get it out of here. It’s driving the customers nuts.”

“Deal,” Honora said, paid the wizard, and tucked the skull under her arm. “I hope you aren’t afraid of heights,” she said and flew off into the night with her real friends right where she belonged.

  ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Since she was a little girl, Lauren Quick has been a believer in the unbelievable. She loves all things fantasy from fables and fairy tales to high fantasy and urban paranormal and everything in between, especially if witches are involved. “The more magic, the better” is her motto, and if a mystery is involved, then she’s all in. She lives in Maryland with her family and familiar cat, Sadie, that has so far shown no magical tendencies, but there’s always hope. For more visit her website at www.laurenquick.com
