Her eyebrows rose. “What?” She lifted the lid from the gift box that shed glitter like it waited for someone to make it rain. He made a mental note not to ask Rick to pick him up anything from the store again. Sophie peeked inside. “Is this seriously a ticket to join you on a cruise?”

Coy nodded, but Law did the explaining. “You’d have your own cabin and everything,” Law assured her. “There’s supposed to be a lot of fun things to do. We really just...” Law shrugged and tried again. Coy rubbed his back as Law spoke for the both of them. “Neither of us have many people in our lives. We didn’t want to wait any longer to share what little family we have with each other. Coy and I also felt like a wedding wasn’t the way to go for us. Instead, we’d like to spend a few weeks enjoying our new family dynamic.”

Coy could tell Law had won Coy’s mom. He decided to push her over the line and fully into Law’s court. “Plus, this way, you can rock a bikini instead of a dress and be the hottest mom on the ship.”

She nodded, looking thoughtful. “This is all true.” Her eyes appeared to snap back into focus. A smile slowly spread across her face. Coy knew his mom. He tensed, readying himself for the explosion. A piercing squeal escaped her as her feet left the ground and she launched herself at them. She jumped up and down while trying to hug them. Coy feared Law might lose an eye. Their gazes met. The smile stretching Coy’s lips matched the one Law wore. A silent conversation passed between them. They’d wait until she was on the ship to break the rest of their news. His mom didn’t like anything making her feel old or left out. That was why they’d booked her a cabin in an area meant for singles. Maybe she’d meet someone fun. She’d eat someone nice for breakfast, but a good time was up her alley. Once she was chilled and had a few drinks in her, then Coy would tell her they’d already gotten married. Then, if she still wanted to kill him, he’d let Ty talk her down, and he’d sneak away with Law. After all, all Law had to do was cash in his senior citizen discount, and boom, they could be alone. He liked the bright future they had in store.
