  Introduction

  All September and October long, I’ve been writing short, sweet, occasionally funny, sometimes creepy Halloween poems. Turns out, the ones I enjoy the most are all about costumes, candy, plastic pumpkins, tricks and treats! So I decided –why not write an entire volume of family friendly poetry all about… trick or treating?

  So… here it is! Trick or Treat contains 101 festive holiday poems all about my favorite time of year… October and the thrills of trick or treating. And, well, I just can’t help myself, so here’s an extra one to send you off:

  From costumes to candy and

  Everything in between,

  Enjoy them all…

  This Halloween!

  Happy Holidays,

  Rusty Fischer

  Trick or Treat:

  101 Haunting Halloween Rhymes

  Sleepy head…

  Wear my costume

  Into bed,

  Use my cape for

  A blanket instead…

  * * * * *

  Ode to a plastic pumpkin…

  Oh, plastic pumpkin,

  In my hand,

  The way you swing

  Is just plain grand!

  * * * * *

  Last call…

  There is nothing

  I find sweeter,

  Than the night’s last

  Trick or treater!

  * * * * *

  The night’s haul…

  Costume hanging

  From the door,

  Treat bag spilled out

  On the floor.

  * * * * *

  Costumes dance…

  Costumes dance

  In every aisle,

  Hang on, Mom

  This could take awhile!

  * * * * *

  Shadows stretch…

  Shadows stretch

  Across the street,

  Monsters lurch

  To trick or treat!

  * * * * *

  Tired trick or treaters…

  Costumes torn

  In a dozen places,

  Makeup smeared

  On smiling faces.

  * * * * *

  Vampire curfew…

  Bat wings flutter

  Across the moon,

  Remind little vampires

  To come home soon!

  * * * * *

  Halloween’s end…

  Candy bowls empty,

  Porches bare,

  End of Halloween

  In the air.

  * * * * *

  No more plastic pumpkins…

  Candy lying

  In the street,

  Broken strap

  At my feet.

  * * * * *

  Running late…

  Bare tree scratches

  At the gate,

  Last trick or treater

  Running late.

  * * * * *

  Flutter…

  Owls that hoot and

  Bats that flutter,

  Make a trick

  Or treater stutter!

  * * * * *

  More…

  Trick or treat bag

  On my floor,

  SO much candy…

  (But I want more!)

  * * * * *

  Last chance for candy…

  One last house left

  One more shot,

  To turn a little

  Into a LOT!

  * * * * *

  Lots of loot…

  My new costume

  Is a hoot,

  Sure to bring in

  Lots of loot!

  * * * * *

  Trick or treat…

  Running here,

  Running there,

  “Trick or treat!”

  Fills the air.

  * * * * *

  Haunted house…

  Haunted house,

  Built to scare,

  Trick or treat

  If you dare!

  * * * * *

  Lather, rinse, repeat…

  Knock on door,

  Get a treat,

  Lather, rinse…

  Now repeat!

  * * * * *

  No November…

  Halloween

  Has come and gone,

  November sure

  Seems really long!

  * * * * *

  The best kind of costume…

  My new costume

  Gets a passing grade.

  Best of all?

  It’s all homemade!

  * * * * *

  One house more…

  Feet so tired,

  Arm so sore,

  Can’t go home yet

  One house more!

  * * * * *

  Persistence pays off…

  I’m back knocking

  On your door,

  Come on, Mister

  Give some more!

  * * * * *

  Danger zone…

  Stay away

  From Old Man Horn,

  He hands out…

  Candy corn!

  * * * * *

  Music to my ears…

  Treat sack dragging

  On the ground,

  Is there any

  Better sound?

  * * * * *

  Trick or treat spoils…

  Ghost sheet crumpled

  By my bed,

  Sugar rush spinning

  Through my head!

  * * * * *

  Double the fun…

  I bought a costume

  Made for two,

  That way Daddy

  Can trick or treat, too!

  * * * * *

  Bad timing…

  Skin of green

  And tongue of blue,

  Not my costume,

  Just the flu!

  * * * * *

  Hang your fangs…

  Hang your fangs up

  For the night,

  I’d say you did

  Halloween right!

  * * * * *

  Trick or treat street…

  Witch on high

  Black cat down low,

  Glad there’s only

  One house to go!

  * * * * *

  Halloween do over…

  Take your time, October,

  And if you’d care to stay,

  I sure would like a re-run

  Of Halloween, okay?

  * * * * *

  Costume compromise…

  How can I make

  An entrance grand,

  If I have to

  Hold your hand?

  * * * * *

  Trick or treat…

  Children squealing

  Left and right,

  The street’s alive

  For just one night!

  * * * * *

  Little Feet…

  When porches fill,

  With little feet,

  It’s time to call out,

  “Trick or treat!”

  * * * * *

  Finger on the bell

  Footsteps in the driveway,

  Finger on the bell,

  Pillowcases open,

  “Trick or treat!” they yell.

  * * * * *

  Finally…

  Sunset on,

  Our little street,

  Finally time

  To trick or treat!

  * * * * *

  Trick or treat bag…

  It will not wrinkle,

  Tear or snag,

  Behold, the perfect

  Trick or treat bag!

  * * * * *

  Little monsters…

  The owl says, “Hoo!”

  The bird says, “Tweet!”

  And little monsters,

  Say, “Trick or Treat!”

  * * * * *

  Cape escape…

  Fall leaf clinging

  To my cape,

  That sucker’s strong –

  I can’t escape!

  * * * * *

  Knock-knock…

  So many doors,

  On every street,

  So many ways

  To trick or treat!

  * * * * *

  Are you new here?!?

  Candy free?

  You get to dress up?

  Tell me, please,

  Where can I sign up?!?

  * * * * *

  Calendar treats…

  Valentine and

  Easter sweets,

  Can’t compete with

  Trick or treats!

  * * * * *

  Halloween rules…

  First rule

  Of Halloween,

  Toss out raisins

  Sight unseen!

  * * * * *

  Trick or treating…

  Grab a flashlight,

  And your sack,

  Hang the cape

  Upon your back.

  * * * * *

  Mask task…

  Couldn’t see a

  Single sight,

  Mask is on

  Way too tight!

  * * * * *

  Cape escape…

  Rubber mask and

  Plastic cape,

  For one night

  We all escape!

  * * * * *

  Creepy curfew…

  Missed my curfew,

  Mother Dear,

  Please don’t ground me

  Till next year!

  * * * * *

  Ring every doorbell…

  Ring every doorbell

  Knock on each door,

  The fun is in waiting

  To see what’s in store!

  * * * * *

  Trick or treat…

  Knock on every

  Door you see,

  To get a piece

  Of candy free!

  * * * * *

  Smell my feet…

  Take the steps,

  Two at a time,

  Ring the bell and

  Sing your rhyme!

  * * * * *

  Halloween hustle…

  Moonlight shine and

  Fall leaves rustle,

  As the trick or

  Treaters hustle!

  * * * * *

  Branches scrape…

  Wind will howl and

  Branches scrape,

  Tearing at my

  Brand new cape!

  * * * * *

  Four eyes…

  Always such a

  Gruesome task,

  Fit my glasses

  Beneath my mask!

  * * * * *

  Comfy costume…

  Wore my costume

  All September,

  May just wear it

  Till December!

  * * * * *

  Scary streaker…

  Trick or treating’s

  Not so cute,

  When brother wears

  His birthday suit!!!

  * * * * *

  Little monsters…

  Plastic fangs and

  Fluttering sheets,

  Little monsters

  In the streets!

  * * * * *

  No more candy…

  No candy left

  Inside my sack,

  As I groan

  Upon my back!

  * * * * *

  Halloween hangover…

  Back is sore and

  Feet are tired,

  All that candy

  Has me wired!

  * * * * *

  Pumpkins aglow…

  Full moon above,

  Full streets below,

  Porches that welcome

  With pumpkins aglow…

  * * * * *

  Counting candy…

  We stand vigil,

  My bro and I,

  Watch our candy

  With a careful eye!

  * * * * *

  Sweet tooth…

  Mommy rifles

  Through my sack,

  When her sweet

  Tooth does attack!

  * * * * *

  Fleet feet…

  Candy sweet and

  Candy sour,

  Nearly a pound

  In just one hour!

  * * * * *

  Trick or sleet…

  Trick or Treat

  Is not so neat,

  With fresh sleet

  Upon your street!

  * * * * *

  Monsters welcome…

  Rubber masks and

  Flickering torch,

  Monsters welcome

  On our porch!

  * * * * *

  Costumes welcome…

  Come and join

  The rest of us,

  Costumes welcome

  On the bus!

  * * * * *

  Trick or treat…

  Skeletons thin and

  Goblins fat,

  Standing on our

  Welcome mat!

  * * * * *

  Doorbell clangs…

  Plastic cape and

  Rubber fangs,

  Quiver as the

  Doorbell clangs…

  * * * * *

  Sharing is caring…

  Stack it up and

  Then compare,

  Best of friends

  Will always share!

  * * * * *

  Masks…

  Masks to hide

  Each child’s face,

  Candy fuels

  Their hectic pace…

  * * * * *

  Monsters knocking…
