Fiona's Mates_A Paranormal Reverse Harem Romance Page 8

“Are you okay?” He pulled back a fraction and slid back into her until he filled her balls deep.

She shook her head twice, risked a quick glance at his eyes and nodded. Her imagination needed a chill pill. Too much stress and too little sleep.

“Yes, I’m fine. Better than fine.” Adventure, here I come.

His fingers branded her hips as he increased his speed. Her muscles contracted, and she gasped at the renewed burst of heat. He stroked fast until he hammered into her. A moan fell from her lips as he fingered her clit. The familiar low pressure gathered again until the sensation spiraled down. Her heart beat in a fast tempo, drumming in her ears, and her head whirled with the surfeit of pleasure. Fire swarmed over her entire body.

“Fiona, sweetheart.” He nipped her earlobe, and she roared into another climax, the spasm of enjoyment continuing for long seconds.

Leif rocked his hips, and a moment later, his big body convulsed with the force of his release. “Oh, god. That was good.” He collapsed against her until she shoved at his broad chest.

He rolled and arranged her on top of him, their bodies still joined.

“I hadn’t done that for a long time,” he confessed.

“Me neither. I know why I haven’t but why haven’t you?” she asked. “I mean, you don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to.”

“There are single women in Churchill, but sex with them comes with expectations,” Leif said. “It’s better and less stressful if I leave them alone.”

  “So you go without sex?”

“I use my hand or I wait until I get down to Winnipeg for business.”

  “Oh.”

  “And you sweetheart?”

“Robert went out at night a lot. He told me he attended business meetings, and I never questioned him. I should have since he was out fucking other women. I’m lucky I didn’t catch a nasty disease from him. Oh, don’t worry,” she said when Leif spoke. “Once I learned he’d been sleeping with my stepsister, I asked the hospital to run tests for me. I’m clean.”

Leif nodded. “Are you ready to go again?” He palmed a breast, and she sighed her pleasure as she glanced down to see he still had an erection.

  She grinned. “Yes.”

“Ah, Fiona. Where have you been all my life?” He lifted her. “Put me inside you.”

She guided him to her entrance and sank down, enjoying the way his heavy cock impaled her and hit sensitive spots. “That is perfect.”

“Feels good on my end,” he said, the tendons of his neck standing out in hard relief. “Ride me now, sweetheart. With luck, we’ll both last longer this time.”

She rose and fell, experimenting with angles. His fingers banded her hips, and she gloried in the tight lust etched into his features. This man wanted her, and his masculine interest left her with a heady and decadent satisfaction. Joy heated her from within while he worked on her outer shell. He reached up to cup one breast, flicking the tight nipple. The coil of energy in her lower body grew bigger and more insistent. Without thinking, she reached down to touch her clit.

“Yes,” she muttered, and the bolts of pleasure jumped into orgasm. When she came back to herself, her heart thumped in a staccato beat, and she’d stopped moving.

“Must be my turn,” he said, and laughter shaded his voice. Leif lifted her, arranged her on all fours in the middle of the mattress and took her from behind.

His cock pulsed and thickened as he drove inside her, the velvet tension rippling to life again. Amazing. She’d never been a multiple orgasm kind of girl, and now she greedily snatched them up like her favorite candy. Leif did three quick strokes and stopped on the last one, fully embedded in her flesh. His cock rippled, and she groaned when he tugged on her nipples. That small jolt of pain let loose lazy ripples in her pussy. Wow. Just wow.

She sank downward onto the mattress, exhausted by the blissful pleasure of sex with Leif.

Leif pulled out of her and padded away from the bed. She’d shift in a minute. She would. She promised herself, but she remained unmoving, her muscles loose and limber with sexual enjoyment.

“Hold still, sweetheart,” Leif said. A warm, damp cloth cleansed the seed from her legs and bathed her delicate tissues. He stood again, then returned to the bed. He slid beneath the covers and drew her against his chest. In the seconds before she dropped into an exhausted slumber, she wondered if having sex with Leif would make trouble with Stig and Kirk. She hoped not, but she’d had a taste of sibling rivalry with her stepsister…

  Ma Comes as a Shock

Leif closed his bedroom door behind him with a soft click, but he doubted Fiona would stir. He’d woken her earlier this morning to make love again, and now with every muscle in his body relaxed and limber, he couldn’t stop smiling. He’d never expected to find the one, not in Churchill, and to have her delivered to his door. Life didn’t get much better.

Ma, though, she might be a problem.

  She abhorred humans.

She put up with them, used them for her own ends, but she’d never welcome a human woman into the pack.

Leif’s smile faded as his mind drifted to ways he could conquer Ma’s objections. Of course, if things got too bad, he could walk away from family. It would be like ripping off a limb, but he’d do it for a life with Fiona.

Ms. McDonald was worth every bit of aggravation.

Her wealth meant nothing to him. He could do without money if he embraced his polar bear heritage. Instead, he kept a foot in both worlds because he loved the town of Churchill and wanted to see it prosper. He enjoyed going his own way and working alongside his brothers instead of remaining under his mother’s total rule.

He strolled into the den, following the coffee aroma coming from the kitchen area. Runt and Kirk must be down in the warehouse, sorting out the fruit and vegetables to take to their temporary market.

After grabbing a mug of coffee,he jogged down the spiral staircase, a real spring in his step and his mind blazing with joy and happiness.

Kirk and Runt had loaded the produce on the sled they used around town, towing it behind the SUV. It stood outside, ready to go.

“You fucked her,” Runt snarled, his voice gravelly and his bear close to the surface.

Leif stilled, every sense going on hyper-alert. He’d never heard that sort of fury coming from his youngest brother.

Kirk’s hands bunched and unclenched at his sides. “Runt and I found her and brought her here. You have no right to waltz in and kidnap her from us.”

“Why didn’t you say so last night?” Leif asked, not taking his gaze off either of his brothers. Their bears lurked just below the surface, ready to explode with violence.

“What part of our woman didn’t you get?” Runt snapped.

“I wanted her.” Leif kept it simple and to the point. He’d taken one look and hadn’t thought beyond the fact his bear wanted her for his mate. As the oldest in the family, he’d seized her and set about staking a claim. “You should’ve told me last night.”

Runt snarled, baring teeth of a predator instead of those of a human. “And scare Fiona half to death?”

Okay, Runt had a point. They’d suppressed their bears and done the right thing. They’d behaved better than he had.

“Arve kept growling ‘mine’ when he met her,” Kirk snapped. “Josef wanted her too. Do you intend to fight for the right to keep her?”

Runt stepped closer, and Leif’s bear growled in agitation. “You can’t fight the four of us.”

Leif shook his head as reality struck. They had to sort this out before Ma stuck her nose into the argument and none of them won Fiona.

“Damn it,” Runt roared, and he flew at him, lips pulled back to reveal an almost full shift of teeth. His fist shot out and clipped Leif’s jaw before Leif’s brain caught up.

He got in another punch before Leif took two big steps back and raised his hands in surrender.

“What’s going on here?” a stern voice demanded.

  M
a. Bloody perfect. That was all he needed to add to this clusterfuck.

If he hadn’t been so caught up in their argument, he would’ve heard her arrival. Now they’d need to cover up Fiona’s presence. Impossible with her scent lingering on all of them.

“Some friendly sparring,” Leif said, shooting a silent warning at Runt and Kirk.

They visibly reined in their bears, though an idiot could see that things were not right in their world.

Ma shook the snow off her jacket and finger-combed her long white-blonde hair. In her forties, she didn’t look old enough to have five adult sons. Her piercing blue eyes sliced and dissected as she toted the facts. “Trouble in your business already. This scheme won’t work. Polar bears should follow tradition and go out on the ice every winter, not pursue human ways and enter trade.”

“Ma.” Leif swallowed his sigh. “We’ve had this discussion before. Nothing has changed.”

Her top lip curled in disdain, an expression Leif had seen often during his twenty-eight years. He restrained his temper, because losing control with their mother wasted mental energy. The best way to prove the worth of their venture was to become successful. A flourishing business wouldn’t impress Brigitte Swenson, but to him and his brothers, it’d mean everything.

She sniffed, and her expression grew more derisive. “I see you’ve all fucked one of the town tramps.”

  Leif bit his tongue.

“Our life, Ma,” Runt spat out, and his glower encompassed Leif and Ma. “We’re adults and don’t need to seek your approval.”

  A fact their mother hated.

“We’ll sleep with whoever we damn well please.” Kirk lifted his chin. “You might be our leader, but we’re not causing trouble or bringing the pack into disrepute.”

Crap. The last thing they needed was an all-out argument with their mother, and that might happen, given his brothers’ unguarded tongues.

“Are you heading out on the ice?” Leif asked in a change of subject.

“I came to give you one last chance to change your mind before the pack leaves,” she said.

  “No,” Runt said.

  “No,” Kirk chorused.

“Thanks, but no,” Leif said, trying to soften his brothers’ outright rejections.

“When will Arve and Josef return?” Ma demanded.

“A couple of days, depending on the weather,” Leif replied.

“I wanted to ask if they’d like to come with the rest of the pack.”

“I doubt it, though I’ll ask them,” Leif said when Kirk and Runt stiffened. Kirk opened his mouth to make a retort, but Leif jumped in first. “You don’t need to wait for them.”

“We’d only be two days ahead. They should manage to track us,” she mused, then gave a quick nod of assent. “That is acceptable.”

In the brief silence, the upper door clicked and light footsteps traversed the staircase.

Fuck. Damn. Hell. This was not happening.

“Ma, have a fruitful trip out to the ice,” Leif said, taking his mother’s arm and half-dragging her to the door. A losing battle since Ma had heard the door opening and the light footsteps, the same as them.

“Who do you have stashed up there?” She lifted her nose, her nostrils flaring as she tested the air. “Is it one of the single bears? Are you trying to pull a swift one on me?”

Despite their earlier argument, Kirk and Runt stepped up to flank him. A flimsy barrier to a determined mother.

She sniffed the air again before patent disgust settled on her broad features. “You bring a human to your den? A human! What have I taught you about the den being sacred?”

“Ma, you need to go,” Leif said. “Will you have a phone with you on the ice?”

  “Heresy,” she snapped.

Leif wasn’t sure if she meant the modern technology or Fiona’s presence.

Fiona appeared at the base of the stairs, fully dressed in the clothes he’d washed for her. Her dark brown hair fell in tangled curls around her head, and she had the appearance of a well-fucked woman. “Ah, I did hear voices. Can I help with anything? Oh, you have a visitor. Hi, I’m Fiona.”

Leif wanted to close his eyes, but he forced his gaze on his mother, his gut tied in knots as he waited for her reaction.

“A human. I was right.” Ma’s nostrils flared as she worked through the myriad scents. “What is wrong with you boys? I raised my sons better. A fuckin’ human,” she spat, shaking her head. “All of you with a puny human. A tramp who doesn’t have enough self-respect to stay with one man. You’d never know if the children belonged to you.”

“Pardon me,” Fiona said in an ice-princess tone, one he hadn’t witnessed from her before. “Did you call me a slut?”

“If the cap fits,” Ma retorted. “Bah! I’ve had enough.” She turned on her heel and departed as quickly as she’d arrived.

Runt strode to Fiona and pulled her into a tight embrace. A protest rose to Leif’s lips, but he beat it down. Now wasn’t the time. They had to present a united front to their mother and hold things together until she departed for her annual ice retreat.

Fiona pulled away from Runt, jutted out her chin and speared each of them with a glare. “That’s your mother? She’s a bitch. And who is she calling a human in that derogatory way?”

Leif sucked in a breath, his gaze on the doorway through which their mother had disappeared. Seconds later, she strode back through, her eyes firing salvos of wrath at them.

“You’re hiding your heritage from the puny human?” she mocked. She folded her arms and tap-tap-tapped her right foot on the concrete floor of the warehouse.

“No, Ma.” Kirk edged between Ma and Fiona.

Leif followed suit, his gaze watchful. This situation could drop into a fiery hell at any second now. Ma with a head of steam turned her into an unpredictable beast. Her volatile nature and strength made the other matriarchs of the pack unwilling to dispute Brigitte’s outright leadership.

“You, human. Why did you come to Churchill?”

“My name is Fiona,” Fiona said in her princess ice-tone. “I came to see polar bears.”

“So you’ll be flying out in a week,” Ma said, sounding happier. “Let me save you the trouble.”

Faint prickles filled the air and a light shone around Ma. Crap. She intended to scare Fiona away.

“Runt, keep Fiona safe. Lock yourselves upstairs if necessary.”

Seconds later, Leif called his bear to the surface, letting the magic of the shift wash over him. At his side, Kirk did the same.

He hated to fight Ma, but he would if it meant keeping Fiona safe.

Fiona stared, too fascinated to experience fear. They…they were changing shape, morphing to something…someone else.

“We should go upstairs.” Stig exerted force with the arm around her waist. “It’s not safe down here with Ma in a pissy mood.”

  A bear.

  A polar bear?

Fiona blinked rapidly to clear the mirage her brain insisted stood right in front of her. Refocusing did nothing to clear the amazing vision. Did that mean werewolves and dragons and vampires were real and her favorite romance authors weren’t making up shifters? She blinked again and wished she had her camera. She’d love to show Robert and rub his nose in the truth. He’d enjoyed scoffing and belittling her attachment to reading romances about other-worldly beasts.

The first bear—Mrs. Swenson—stood on her hind legs and roared. The growl thundered through the warehouse, and the small hairs at the back of Fiona’s neck stood to attention. She was quite big. Ooh, Leif and Kirk had turned in to bears. They were frickin’ huge.

  “We should go,” Stig repeated.

“Okay. I’ll get my camera. Can you do that? Does it hurt? Why didn’t you tell me when I was going on about polar bears?”

“Upstairs,” Stig repeated, tension in his shoulders and jaw.

  “Your mother isn’t very nice.”

“We’ll discuss this upstairs,” Stig snapped. “
Move. Now.”

He hustled her up the stairs, using his strength to propel her unwilling limbs.

“Stig, can’t I watch for a bit longer? I never believed shifters were real.”

At the top of the spiral staircase, Stig pushed her through the door and locked it behind them. The growls and thunderous roars continued after them, only slightly muted by the sturdy steel barrier.

  “This way,” Stig urged.

“Wait, I want to get my camera. I need to be prepared.”

“This isn’t a game. It’s not a story in a book or a tame movie. Ma doesn’t like you, Fiona. She’ll hurt you if she gets the chance.”

“Me? But why? I have done nothing wrong. I arrived last night and haven’t had time to offend the locals.” She glanced at Stig and saw knowledge in his gaze. A blush took her by surprise. “Much.”

“You’re corrupting her precious sons,” Stig said. “That’s enough for Ma to take a violent dislike to any woman.”

She allowed Stig to direct her from the den and along the corridor leading to the bedrooms.

“In here,” Stig ordered and shoved her through the second door.

“Please, can I get my camera?”

Stig let out a testy sigh. “Where is it?”

“In Leif’s room with my day pack.”

Stig issued a testy growl. “That’s something else we will talk about.”

Heat invaded her cheeks again, along with an uncomfortable, edgy emotion of shame. She wasn’t sure how last night with Leif had happened. Not that she regretted a thing. She’d enjoyed the sex. Quite a bit, and she liked Leif. She liked all the Swenson brothers, which made their mother’s accusations uncomfortably close to the truth.

Maybe she had edged into sluttish behavior.

  One Swenson brother. Pick one!

Stig disappeared and reappeared a brief time later with her camera in hand. The roars from his brothers and mother sounded louder, and he cast a worried glance at the entranceway. He slammed his bedroom door shut and turned the lock.
