  I nodded. "I'd appreciate that."

It was hard to remain civil and calm knowing that Aiden, Tracie and Devon were worried about me. But if I was to become the woman the legends spoke of, I would need to take responsibility for the powers I'd been given.

Better the devils you know than the ones you don't.

There was only one way to move forward and that was through it. I would remain with the Den and learn everything I could. Staying closer to the enemy was more important than being protected by my protectors. I knew that they'd been warned. To stay away and not attempt to retrieve me. And even though I had complete confidence in Aiden, Tracie and Devon, I also knew that destiny has a way of weaving things differently from what we anticipate.

  In this, I trusted.

To get through this, I'd have to play the long con. The long game. Because it was only just getting started. My time with the denizen was required of me. This, the universe was making clear to me. No matter how much I railed against this realization, the more it sunk in that I would be with the Denizen for longer than a day, a week or a month.

  I had much to learn.

So, I could harness the power given to me. But being with the Den meant I couldn't be with Aiden and I railed against this. Like a fury in my soul. A storm that I would have to squelch every damned day.

  Of my life.

  Until we were both free.
