"I don't know they could have those drones out searching the area, and once they catch us the aliens would be on us quicker than I don't know what." I told him really not wanting to go but with our food supplies diminishing we had to do something. As I checked on each survivor I could tell that those same concerns were in their heads the same as mine. I gathered a group of people, along with Chris, that I thought would be able to handle their own in a fight and took them to the basement to speak to them.
"OK, here's the deal, we need food if we're going to survive. If we stay here we will surly die from lack of food. We have plenty of water from the lake. We need to go into town grab some food and get out. If you don't want to go you don't have to but I am going and all of you are more than welcome to come with me."
"What about weapons, everything we used on them so far hasn't worked?" Chris asked.
"Well there have been some reports of our guns stunning them but not killing them if we hit them in the chest so we will take weapons but only use them if absolutely necessary."
A few in the group backed out but majority stayed. We took our group of 7 and since the house already had guns in it from the owners hunting collection. We issued them out along with the ammo. We walked in the dense covered woods along the side of the road keeping watch for the drones that would be patrolling the roads. As we made it to the store we left four of us outside to keep watch while the rest of us gathered as much food as we could get.
Halfway to the house we noticed a ship flying fast over our heads in the same direction we were headed. We all took cover and waited until it got out of sight.
"It's headed for the house!" I heard a voice from one in the group."
Immediately we started to run toward the lake house and once it was in sight we could see the lights from the ship. We stopped in the tree line and took cover to see what was going on. Several of the beings had rounded up everyone inside and lined them up on the shore. They had their new prisoners to put on a weird looking collar that seemed to make the humans do the aliens dirty work without any of them saying a word. I noticed several other "slaves" were holding our group at gunpoint when I heard a scream from the house. They had Annie! I watched as my life was being taken down to the rest with another alien trying to put a collar on her.
I got down and turned to the group. "Alright, it's now or never, I need you guys to start shooting when I give the command. I'm going down there to find out if these guys really are indestructible."
As I waited for the opportunity to take action I thought about my wife and all the good times we had together before all this and how much I wanted them back. Then the thought of losing her all together made me jump up and start running for the alien that had her. I could hear the gunshots from behind and I saw a few creatures go down but they were not down for long. This was going to work or we were all going to die.
I tackled the being and tried to stab him with my knife which did not pierce his flesh. He picked me up with one hand and held me by the throat. Suddenly I heard another shot and the alien stumbled a bit, fell and started to roll toward the water. I fell and expecting to hit hard slimy flesh I hit nothing but water and sand. The alien was gone!
"No way it can't be he was just here?" I thought to myself.
Another being came at me and I kicked water on him to and suddenly he keeled over and turned to dust.
"Water kills them!" I yelled to the others.
Just then it seemed like the sky opened up and it began to rain. One thing the aliens did not think about was the weather in the mid-west can go from clear to thunderstorms in a matter of minutes. We were going to survive.
