PART 1
Chapter One: Ace
“My arms are open for you, look at me now.
Baby if you want you got me.
I know you're broken darling, and I won't let you down.
Baby I've been waiting for you...”
“Are you ready for me, baby?”
I blinked. One lamp on the end table was on, but that was it. Black swallowed the rest of the room. All I could hear was the soft, shaky bass coming out of the speakers. I sat real still, but I could feel my breathing quicken. The strange and sultry tune sounded so sexy, but so sad at the same time.
“Baby?”
The brunette in front of me was a certified stunner. Her pink lips were full and luscious. Her skin and slender fingers looked soft, like they'd never been through even an hour of hard labor. Her eyes were so pure and blue, it was like they were made of glass.
I could see some of her round tits peeking out from the sides of her white gown. Her nipples were poking through the loose front of her dress. My eyes dropped to the slit on the side of her gown. She pushed out her leg suggestively, showing off the lacy white garter on her dewy thigh.
I nodded.
“Good. Now, just relax, baby... We're going to have some fun tonight.”
She undid her bun and whipped out her flowing dark hair. I tightened my grip around my armrests, just watching her. The eerie beat swayed her hips.
“See these feelings are outta control...”
She lowered her eyes, pulling down the zipper on the side of her gown.
“Talk about losing, losing all my shit for you...”
The gown was now hanging around her waist. As she bent forward to climb out of her gown, her natural, juicy tits swung out in full view. Those dark nipples were pert and ready, pointing right at me.
“'Cause I've been thinking about, thinking about...”
All she had left was her sheer white lingerie and her white heels. She started to saunter towards me slowly, crossing one graceful leg in front of the other. The strands of pearls around her neck were gleaming in the lamplight.
“Putting my body, body, body on top of you...”
She stopped just 2 feet away from me and spun around, facing away from me. I spread my legs wide open and sunk down in my chair. I had to admit – above anything, I was more intrigued by the fact that she'd managed to keep herself balanced in those shoes. Those things looked like they had to be at least 8 inches tall.
She dipped her whole body forward. I ogled at the upside-down heart of her perky ass cheeks. The floss of her thong had gone missing in that tight crack. She pushed her fingers off the ground and straightened up once more, sliding her hands along the curves of her body.
The pearls around her neck rattled as she moved. She turned back around to face me. A small smile played on her lips. Slowly, she lowered herself to the ground, positioning herself on all fours. The whole time, her narrowed eyes were flicked upwards, fixed on mine. As she crawled towards me, sweet gravity swung those tig ol' bitties from side to side.
She propped herself upright and knelt between my legs. Her eyelashes fluttered as she peered up at me. She glided her palms up and down my thighs, as if she was warming me up. Moaning, she inched closer and closer, her soft tits brushing against my knees. I could see a hint of those shaved lips through the moist spot on her panties.
But all that just confirmed what I already knew. No exaggeration, this girl had a banging body and a face of an LA – 10, but nothing was happening. I grabbed the remote and switched off the music.
Jerking away from me, she looked over her shoulder and back at me, frowning.
“Something the matter, Mr. Warner?”
I clapped twice and got up to my feet. The lights around the apartment flickered on. She got back up, too, tucking her hair behind her ears hastily. Even with the makeup on her face, her cheeks turned a shade darker.
“Sorry.” My voice was still raspy from all the peppermint schnapps I'd downed a couple of hours ago. “It's not you, but I can't do this.”
“But I – ” She blinked, her mouth hanging slightly open. “I – this has never happened to me before.”
“I'm sure it hasn't.”
“We can try something else, if you like –”
“Will you join me in the bedroom?” I started. Her eyes brightened briefly, but the light was stamped out right as I continued. “Not asking you to do anything but lay next to me.”
The knot between her brows deepened.
“Though that isn't as uncommon a request as you might think, I charge by the hour, and you've selected the 4-hour package –”
I pulled out the thick wad of hundred-dollar bills in my back pocket and set it down on the coffee table. She picked up the cash and leafed through the bills. Satisfied, she stuffed the cash into her purse.
“After you.” She nodded at me, her simpering smile returning.
I led her into the bedroom and took up my usual spot on the left side of the bed. She closed the door behind her and crawled into bed with me. I draped the sheets over us, settling into my spot.
“Turn the lights off.”
She yanked the chain on the lamp and made herself comfortable next to me. The curtains were drawn, sealing the room in perfect darkness. Just the way I liked it.
I wrapped an arm around her. She crept closer to me, pressing her back against my chest. I pulled her hair away from her face and sprea
d them out over her pillow. With her warm body against mine, I breathed in. The pillowcases reeked of stale sweat, probably because they haven't been changed in months. In the same breath, I could smell her sweet perfume. It was too sweet, reminding me of cake.
I brushed her hair with my fingers, but the wavy texture was all wrong. The clicking of the pearls around her neck was disorienting. Brooklyn never wore pearls.
I readjusted my arm around her a few times, but it was hopeless. Her body just didn't...fit. All the same, I just held on tighter.
This was all I had.
Chapter Two: Victoria
The tip of Mark's nose nuzzled against my neck. I arched my head back, knocking the back of my head against the headrest. As his warm tongue licked a trail down my neck to my collarbone, my airy giggles filled the inside of his car. His hand was forcing its way through the tight fabric of my leather skirt, en route for the tingling space between my legs.
“Okay, Mark,” I moaned, fidgeting in my seat. “That's – that's enough. I have to go...”
“That's not what you were saying last night,” Mark whispered. The smug bastard was grinning.
“Oh, what the hell.”
I beat him to the punch and cupped a hand around him. His full-grown dick was pushing up against his zipper, throbbing in my palm. I leaned in to nibble on his ear, all the while grinding my hand against the angry muscle. His face took turns tensing and relaxing to the rhythm of my fingers.
I stopped to savor Mark's coarse, uneven breaths. I walked 2 of my fingers along the cold teeth of his closed zipper. He shifted in his seat, thrusting his bulge toward me. As my hand hovered over his zipper, he clawed at my thighs. I waited until he got close enough to feel the warmth emanating from my pussy.
“Hey, what –”
I grabbed his wrist and slowly eased his hand out from under my skirt.
“When a girl tells you she's gotta go, she's gotta go.” I reached for my purse. “Any-who. It was good meeting you, Mark, but like I said, I gotta run.”
I hopped out of the blue sedan. Mark popped his head out of the driver's window, hanging one arm over the side. His steel-blue pompadour wobbled.
“Damn it. You're a tease and you know it, don't you, babe?” He clicked his tongue, but he had a smile on his face.
“Thanks for the ride.” I smoothed my skirt over my thighs, turning away from him.
“Yo, wait – am I gonna see you again?”
“You'll see me when I see you.”
I gave him another wave and turned towards the opening in the alley. When Mark's clunky car sped off and out of sight, I made another left and crossed the street. I didn't catch Mark's (AKA rippeddoberman72) last name, and I wasn't itching to find out, either. The guy had the kind of squint-eyed smile that could charm the panties off of most women – including yours truly – but we just didn't mesh. It happens.
Mark was fun-going, but he gave off this vibe of a class clown who'd never really grown out of it. Not that I was looking for anything serious, but fooling around on his cartoon alien sheets while his hard-of-hearing mother banged at his door wasn't a future I was interested in pursuing. Then again, I wouldn't mind keeping him in my phone book for those nights I was feeling extra frisky.
I walked up the front steps of Alcott Heights and through the golden front doors.
“Good morning, Ms. Vaughan.”
The doorman tipped his hat.
“Morning, Mr. Larson,” I answered cheerfully, walking up to the rows of bronze mailboxes. I found ours and pulled out the stack of mail. “How are Shirley and the kids?”
“Everyone's doing wonderful – thanks for asking. My last kid's graduating from high school tomorrow. It's a bittersweet feeling – Arwana and I hate to see Riley go, but we can't wait to have the nest to ourselves again.”
“Congratulations!” I said earnestly as I locked up my mailbox. “Maybe you guys can get away for a while, have a second honeymoon.”
“Maybe, maybe,” Mr. Larson chuckled. “So, how goes your second week at ASBC? When do we get to see you on TV?”
“Oh, I don't know about that. I've only just...”
The elevator doors opened. A tall, somewhat disheveled man strode out to the lobby, nodding at Mr. Larson. His hair was pulled back from his face and his beard stuck out like an overgrown bush, but sweet gravy on a cracker, he was hot. His beefy biceps and big, strong hands were nice to look at, but it was those eyes. Those small, toffee-brown eyes, his gaze so soft, but so raw...
“Have a good day, Mr. Warner.”
As Ace Warner passed me on his way out the door, he acknowledged me with a brisk nod. I held my mail against my chest and returned the nod. My eyes lingered on the outline of his firm, tight butt through his jeans as he slipped out the golden doors.
“I better get upstairs.”
“You have a good day, too, Ms. Vaughan.”
I slipped into the elevator. And as soon as I saw what I looked like on the wall mirror, my stomach fell. I was a hot mess.
“Fantastic.”
I flattened the kinks on the sides of my wavy black hair and fixed my twisted bra strap. As I leaned forward to rub off the smudged purple around my eyes, I caught a huge whiff of the cigarette smoke and cheap liquor clinging to my hair and clothes. I was surprised Mark hadn't said anything. But, it was impossible to smell anything through the pungent cloud of weed smoke hanging over his bedroom, so there's that.
This was bananas. Ace had gotten me all flustered, and I didn't even know the guy. I mean, I knew of the guy. Who didn't? The Jets quarterback wasn't just major eye-candy, he was one of the greatest comeback stories ever told. Of course, I didn't care for his flashy end zone dances or his time-bomb of a temper on the field, but it was undeniable – the guy was fearless.
But as talented as he was, the only reason most people around the world knew his name was the scandal that followed the man everywhere. He was the classic story of a rising star who'd gotten sucked into all the partying, booze, and pizzazz, only to be chewed up and spat back out. Then, international news stations began honing in on him when he was implicated in his teammate Jonathan Whitaker's death. Eventually, his name was cleared when authorities found the real culprits – a Jet linebacker and the team owner's son.
After all that drama, Ace did more than get his act back together. After 2 amazing seasons, he played a huge role in winning the Jets the Vince Lombardi trophy. He settled down and got married, managing to keep his name out of the limelight for a while. That was, until 3 years ago.
Shocking headlines around the globe covered the sudden death of his wife, who'd died in a horrible car crash just 2 years into their marriage. Worst part of it all was, he was the one that had been driving. Apparently, he was never the same after that. Rumor has it that he was still in denial over it, claiming the tragic accident was some kind of conspiracy.
Ding.
When I made it to my apartment and unlocked the door, any thoughts of the quarterback blanked.
“Just keep going, Rosaline – push those arms a little farther back...”
As I kicked the door shut behind me, a crouching Felipe yelled snippets of encouragement over the thumping speakers. I raised my eyebrows. My puffing cousin was stretched over a bright pink stability ball. There were dimples on her bronzed legs and arms from her straining muscles, and full-blown sweat patches under her boobs.
“Well, hello –”
“Silence!” Felipe barked. His greasy ponytail really meant business. “Can't you see we're in the middle of a session?”
“Nice. Good to see you too, Felipe.” I fixed myself a glass of lemonade. “Do you charge extra for that attitude?”
“Okay, you 2. Claws down.” Rosaline slid off the ball and thudded on the floor. “You don't know how hard it is to find a good personal trainer these days – $1,000 an hour is a steal!”
“'A steal'?” I stared at her. “I don't think you know what that word means, but okay.”
“It's what
all the hottest stars in Hollywood – many, of which are my loyal clients – can afford. It's called paying premium, honey,” Felipe sniffed, crossing his arms. “But I suppose you wouldn't know anything about that, would you?”
“Oh, right. Poor me and my free jogs around Central Park. Whatever shall I do?”
“Felipe's right – he's a godsend. He got rid of my stretchmarks, don't you know.” Rosaline blew a strand of platinum-blonde hair off her cheek. “You're welcome to join us if you like – and don't worry, I'll pay –”
“Oh, stop it. You never had stretchmarks to begin with.” I grabbed a giant bag of chips from the cupboard and trotted to my room. “And thanks, but I'll pass.”
When I entered my room, I found another one of my cousins curled up on the armchair by the window.
“Hi, Victoria! I was just reading.”
Cailie lowered her tablet, grinning at me. Feature-wise, the 15-year-old was like a mini-Rosaline – their pretty, almond-shaped blue eyes were almost one and the same. That said, she was nothing like the glamour queen. Cailie sported a layered pixie-cut that was currently dyed “Electric Violet,” and tiny golden hoops around her lip and between her nostrils.
She slid her tablet into her backpack.
“Sorry, I hope you're okay with me hanging out in here for a bit. My sister's being a pain – she wouldn't turn down that dreadful music.”
“Of course.” I chucked my mail onto my bed. “I've got some time to kill. You want to grab some ice cream? I'll just need a shower and a change of clothes.”
“Yes, please! Am I glad to see you. I didn't know if you were gonna be home today when Grandpa drove me here and dumped me on your doorstep. They keep forcing us to spend all this 'quality time' together, even though we all know she's rubber and I'm glue.” Cailie swung her backpack over her shoulder and slunk towards the door. “I'll wait for you in the living room. I guess a few minutes of watching my sister sweating the makeup off her face wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.”
