“But, they’re not Catholic.” Steph led him to the couch.
“No one’s perfect,” Cedric snarked and Phillip smiled approvingly.
“After nine months of listening to your foul mouth they didn’t want to chance it being born possessed by a demon,” Phillip teased. Cedric laughed out loud and high-fived him.
Steph scoffed and flipped him off.
“I’ve barely been around Cheyenne. Now that she’s living in the U.K. I hardly get to see her.”
“We’ve discussed how easily we could fix that problem,” Phillip interjected.
“We’ve been over this, Lippy. Cheyenne’s a journalist. She can do her job from anywhere. I have to be in the same location with my subjects.” As she began to shuffle the cards, Cedric gave Phillip a conspiratorial wink.
“Aren’t you Phillip Kersey?” Two teenagers materialized at Phillip’s side as if by magic.
“Yes, I am.” Phillip pulled his gaze away from Stephanie. He hoped she’d change her mind. He’d bought their cottage in Ireland and had it completely remodeled. They’d fly to Dublin tonight and he planned to pop the question there.
“Can we have your autograph?” The other gushed. Phillip happily obliged.
In the Labor Room, Cheyenne was sure she couldn’t endure one more moment. She felt like she was being ripped apart from the inside. After pushing for what seemed like days she was convinced she had nothing left to give.
“I’m dying!” she moaned. Scott was in her face, locking eyes with her.
“You’re not dying, it’s almost over.” Scot coached as she squeezed his hand, her fingers drenched with sweat. “I love you, Cheyenne. Now let’s see that baby.”
“Right. Cheyenne, one more push,” the doctor instructed.
Cheyenne psyched herself up for the last big push. She screamed like a madwoman and pushed as if at gunpoint.
“Here it comes!” the doctor announced. “It’s a boy!”
Cheyenne fell back on the bed, instantly in tears at the sound of her son’s lusty cries. Scot bent down and kissed her, stroking her hair. There were tears in his eyes as well. Cheyenne, who once doubted she’d ever be close to any man again, was now blessed with two of them that she could love unconditionally. As she watched her husband snapping pictures and chattering with the nurses, she felt serenity come over her.
Scot presented her their perfect little bundle. They both beamed as they gazed down at their wailing son. Scot wept unabashedly.
“He’s our next big adventure,” Scot said, kissing his squawking baby boy and beaming at his wife.
Cheyenne opened her mouth to speak and closed it. There were no words powerful enough to express what she was feeling, so she chose silence. One thing was for sure: she definitely believed in love at first sight. Tears of joy streamed steadily down her face as she kissed them both.
