As an educated man, he never made an uninformed decision. That included his beliefs about religion. Russell hadn’t become agnostic until after taking several theology courses. As a result, he was quite knowledgeable about Christian scripture.
Smiling, Russell steepled his hands in a gesture of prayer, his face adorned with dancing shadows cast by the glow of the campfire. His voice was rich and full of hope as he practiced reciting his first prayer, from the book of Hebrews, if he remembered correctly.
“Let us approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive Mercy.”
