His Two Alphas Page 38

“We’ll need to do some sex calls,” Spike said. “Where Kai tells me how to fuck you, and then he can jerk off to it on his end.”

Micah was about to nudge him, too, but Kai beat him to it. “Or maybe I can have Micah fuck you the way I want to,” Kai said, a slow smile creeping up his lips. “That’ll make you shut up for a bit.”

Spike grinned, elbowing Kai again. Then he dragged Kai in for a kiss, and Micah watched as they fought for dominance, all teeth and tongue and strong fingers tugging on hair.

In the end, it didn’t matter who dominated who, when they broke the kiss with smiles on their faces, and a warmth in their eyes that made Micah’s heart thump. Then they both turned to Micah, grinning. “Ready to move the bed?”

This was part of his life now. It was far more than what he’d foreseen for himself a year ago. “I am,” Micah said, grabbing the pillows off the bed.

“Maybe you should sit down.” Spike glanced at Micah’s belly.

Micah frowned. “I can still walk, you know.”

“Don’t wanna risk the baby,” Kai added, sliding his arm around Micah’s waist, stroking Micah’s side, where his belly met his hip.

“Maybe if you tie some pillows to your belly,” Spike conceded. “That way, just in case you somehow fall and Kai and I aren’t there to catch you, you’ll have a huge cushion.”

Micah rolled his eyes. “No, Spike. I can walk. I’ve been doing fine all the way up until now.”

Spike looked sheepish. Kai glanced at Micah’s belly again, looking hesitant. So Micah asked, “Do you want to talk to your baby, Kai? She’s right here.”

Kai glanced at Spike, panicking. Spike had murmured against Micah’s belly that morning, and Kai had kept a wary distance. But now Kai looked ready to give it a try.

Slowly, he approached Micah, kneeling at Micah’s feet. “You’re really okay with this,” Kai said, tugging up Micah’s shirt.

“Are you okay with it?” Micah asked, his heart warm. “You don’t have to, you know. Not until you’re ready.”

Kai blew out a breath. “I’m flying back tomorrow. Doesn’t matter when I actually feel ready.”

Micah brushed his fingers through Kai’s hair, admiring his courage. He couldn’t believe this alpha was really his. “Then go ahead.”

Spike came to kneel next to Kai, tangling their fingers. “I’m here for moral support,” Spike said, leaning against his brother. “It’s our baby, Kai.”

Kai slanted a dubious look at Spike. “And you’re ready?”

“No.” Spike laughed, squirming. “I’m still afraid I’ll fuck up. But I’d rather be here so Micah can tell me where I’m going wrong.”

“The first baby is the most difficult,” Micah said, really to comfort them. Except they both turned to him in horror.

  “You want another?” Spike asked.

“Maybe after we get used to this one,” Kai said.

Micah laughed. “I mean, I’ve already had York. This isn’t my first.”

But if this pregnancy went well... was it possible for Micah to have another child? Was it worth the risk? Micah rubbed his belly, loving when his baby girl kicked. “Oof.”

“It’s okay if she kicks you,” Spike told Kai. “She won’t break your teeth.”

  Kai sighed exasperatedly. “Thanks, bro.”

  Spike laughed. “Anytime.”

But slowly, Kai leaned in, pressing a kiss to Micah’s belly. Then he said, “Hey,” and his voice rumbled through Micah’s skin. “I’m... your dad. The other, other one. Sorry I haven’t said hi until now.”

Spike flushed with pride; Micah felt his own spirits lift. He stroked Kai’s hair, so happy he could burst.

“I’ll be leaving in a couple days to go play basketball for my team, the Colorado Whitecoats,” Kai continued, finding some momentum as he spoke, “but after the season ends, I’m gonna come home and play with you. You’ll be out by then, I think. Don’t give your other dads too much to worry about.”

After a pause, Kai added, “I love your dads, and I love you, too.”

Then he pulled away, and Micah cupped Kai’s jaw, tipping his face up so their gazes met. “You don’t have to say it, you know,” Micah told him. “If you don’t know what you feel.”

Kai chewed on his lip. “I figured... I’ll learn to love her sooner or later. May as well say it now. I won’t get to say it again for another couple months.”

Gods, he was adorable. Micah leaned in, kissing Kai fervently on the lips. Kai growled, kissing Micah back. Then Spike nudged his way closer, wanting kisses, too, and the three of them got sidetracked for a while.

When they finally moved the bed back into Micah’s apartment, pillows and blankets and all, Micah sagged against the doorframe, tired out. Last night and this morning had both been intense, and his body still ached from the loving Kai and Spike had given him.

“I told you, sit down.” Spike frowned. “So you can recover, and then we’ll make you cream yourself again.”

Kai growled, interest lighting his eyes. Micah flushed. Gods, they sure had the stamina to go on forever. Last night, after their knots had receded, Micah had laid down on one side of the bed, watching as Kai pinned Spike to claim him a second time. Micah had thought they’d still be sated this morning, except he’d woken up with their hands all over him, their scents rubbed thickly into his skin.

The front door opened. Micah froze when York stepped into the apartment, sniffing at the air.

Aside from a few texts over the past couple days, Micah hadn’t gotten the chance to speak much with his son. So having Spike and Kai move back in... it was a bit of a surprise to York.

York narrowed his eyes when Spike and Kai crowded around Micah. “You’re back after you ditched my dad?”

Spike clenched his jaw. “Saw the error of my ways. I’m never leaving him again.”

“I’ll be back after the season ends,” Kai said. “Flew back when Spike landed in the hospital. We made up.”

“I’ve told you, York. I was the one who sent them away. But yes, we did make up,” Micah said, stepping forward to pull his son into a hug. “And I’ve also missed you.”

York wrinkled his nose, squirming out of Micah’s arms. “Yeah, maybe take a shower before you hug me, Dad. You stink like... like stuff I don’t wanna know about.”

York flushed. Micah assumed York had smelled the musk, along with elm and juniper. But York glanced at Micah’s neck, and then his wrists. Micah rubbed the bite marks on his wrists. Spike had given him a second bonding mark this morning, to match the one Kai had left on Micah’s other wrist.

“They’re for real this time, huh?” York said quietly, so only Micah could hear him.

Micah breathed out, flushing. “They are. I believe them, York. I know this has been crazy for you to accept, but... I’m really happy.”

York cracked a smile. “Yeah? Okay, maybe I can accept it. For the time being. So... when are you getting married?”

Micah’s face scorched. “We... haven’t talked about that yet.”

With Kai being the only one with a full-time job right now, money was still tight. And they’d only just bonded. Micah didn’t want to push too far, by asking what came next.

York considered all of them. Spike and Kai stood at the other end of the living room, giving them privacy. And York glanced back at Micah, surprisingly calm about all of this.

Under his breath, York asked, “When you do get married, do you want me to walk you down the aisle?”

Micah choked. Then the rest of York’s question sank in—This was York giving Micah his approval, this was York offering to give Micah away, and... York knew how much Micah wanted a traditional wedding. With both of Micah’s parents gone, York was the only blood family Micah had left.

Tears welled up in Micah’s eyes. “Yes,” he said, wiping the wetness off. “Oh, gods, York. You’re the best.”

Kai and Spike had started to prowl forward, protests on their lips—they’d seen Micah c
ry. Micah threw his arms around his son, holding on tight despite York’s disgusted expression.

“Dad!” York mumbled, squirming. “Get a shower!”

“That’s how you were conceived, you know.” Micah kissed him on the cheek. “Mating is part of the cycle of life.”

York paled. “No, I don’t want to hear about that, either.”

Micah laughed. Then he released York and pulled him over to Spike and Kai, who were still giving York wary looks.

York stepped forward, holding his hand out to them. “I guess I don’t mind that you bonded with my dad,” York said, looking them both in the eye. “But I swear, if you ever hurt him again—”

  “Not gonna happen,” Spike growled.

  “I promise,” Kai said.

York dropped his hand, studying them both for a moment. “Can we go back to being friends, instead of arguing over an omega because we all love him?”

Surprise lit both Spike and Kai’s faces. Spike was the first to step forward, pulling York into a hug. “You only had to ask,” Spike said, beaming.

Kai followed, wrapping his arms around York and his brother. “Yeah,” Kai said, meeting Micah’s eyes over York’s shoulder. “Sounds good to me.”

Micah’s heart pattered. All three of them hugging like this—it was perfect. Better than anything he could ask for.

Then Micah’s phone began to ring, and he turned away to answer it.

June was on the line. “Micah,” she said. “Get your butt down to the college. Stuff’s happening at the department office. Get here now.”

  44

  Micah

June had said to go to the department office, but the place was chaos. Micah edged around the crush of curious students, uniformed police, and harried staff, squeezing between two other people to see what was going on.

Behind him, Spike and Kai grumbled, elbowing people out of the way so they could crowd against Micah.

On the far side of the L-shaped office, someone raised his voice. “This is my college. I built it from the ground up,” Bernard snapped. “The staff here follow my rules.”

The police officers with him responded, but they were too far away for Micah to hear their response. A few paces away, a police officer cuffed Harold Saxon’s wrists behind his back.

Micah stared, hardly able to believe his eyes.

A couple weeks ago, when he’d returned to the college to drop off a few last-minute instructions, June had convinced him to lodge a police report. Micah had been dubious, but June had shoved the paperwork at him. Apparently, she’d prepared the paperwork for two other ex-coworkers of theirs—Dale Kinney, and Ian McMillan.

If this works, I don’t know if they’ll want to return, June had said, eyeing the forms wistfully. It’s been a while since they’ve taught at college-level.

Micah had filled in the form, not wanting to have wasted June’s time. Over the past week, he’d answered a couple of phone calls from the police, and given statement after statement.

Right now, that memory came to the forefront of his mind. The officer cuffed Bernard’s hands behind his back, and Bernard snarled.

“Threats to law enforcement count as an offense,” the officer informed him.

If Bernard and Saxon both went to jail... then who would take over the chemistry department? And the college?

“He’s getting his just desserts now,” Spike said, wriggling. He nudged someone else out of the way, so he could stand at the receptionist’s counter—Kai, too. Kai wrapped his arm around Micah’s back, and Spike did the same from Micah’s other side, both of them forming a protective shield around him. Micah’s heart fluttered.

“Let me through,” a woman said behind them. “I’m Bernard’s wife. Let me through, I say!”

Micah glanced over his shoulder, finding a plump, shorter woman making her way through the crowd. Behind her, a younger alpha followed—a man who had the same shrewd eyes and strong jaw Kai did, and... the same full lips. Features that Bernard Hastings also shared.

Kai turned to follow Micah’s gaze, and froze.

Paces away, Henrietta Hastings and her son paused, too. Micah saw the recognition in Henrietta’s eyes, the doubt.

“I thought I recognized you when you were playing basketball for the college,” Henrietta said slowly. “What’s your name?”

“Kai Ventura,” Kai said, wary. Micah reached up to hold Kai’s hand, the one that had squeezed tight against Micah’s waist.

“And... your parents?” Henrietta asked, her forehead creasing. “Who are they?”

The procession of police officers began down the department office aisle. Micah turned back, his breath snagging in his throat when Bernard Hastings met his stare. Even with police officers next to him, Bernard glanced between Kai, Spike, and Micah, his lip curling in contempt. That brought back terrible memories.

His heart thumping, Micah pushed away Bernard’s judgment. He stood straighter. Kai and Spike weren’t secrets to be swept under the carpet, as much as Bernard had treated him like they were.

Bernard glanced at Kai, then Micah. “You certainly are perverse,” Bernard remarked to Micah. “Is there something about my blood that intrigues you?”

Then Bernard looked pointedly at Kai, and a gasp came from the crowd.

“Bernard,” Henrietta said, wobbling on her feet. “What did you mean, your blood?”

The college president glanced at her, and paled. “Henrietta,” he said, struggling against his handcuffs. “You misunderstood—”

“No, you didn’t,” Kai said coldly. “That bastard slept with some omega, and I’m the result. He has the DNA tests to prove it.”

Bernard grew very still. Henrietta swayed, her chest heaving. She stared incredulously at Bernard, and her son held her up.

“Bernard,” Henrietta said shakily. “I’d suspected, but... How could you?”

The college president pursed his lips. “It means nothing.”

“It doesn’t mean nothing,” Henrietta snapped. “You cheated on me!”

The office grew very silent. Bernard looked away, his face red.

Deep down, Micah’s heart thumped. He’d never been able to get even with Bernard for all the insults and humiliation. Because Micah was omega, and because Micah’s job had relied on Bernard’s mercy.

But today, watching Bernard being stripped of his dignity before his staff and family, watching Bernard’s wife condemning him... a sense of justice bloomed in Micah’s chest.

Whatever Bernard had dealt Micah... this was payback enough. He bowed his head, hiding his smile.

“Take that,” Spike whispered, his eyes gleaming. “‘Bout time someone handed him his ass. I love that Kai helped.”

  Kai smiled, squeezing Micah’s waist.

The police officers shoved Bernard forward, out of the department office. Henrietta and her son did not follow.

Students murmured around them, until they eventually dispersed. And Micah turned, sighing. “I suppose I should thank June for the heads-up,” he said. “Although I don’t see much point in hanging around after that—”

“Wait.” Henrietta stepped up to them, looking at Kai, Spike, then Micah. She seemed full of words, but she took a breath, and deflated. “Have we met before?” she asked Micah. “I wanted to ask how you were related to Bernard, but that would be presumptuous of me.”

“I’ve been to the staff dinners.” Micah smiled wryly. “We might have met there. As for Bernard... We dated, a long time ago. I didn’t stick around.”

“Ew, I’d think not,” Spike said, scrunching up his face. “He’s like a bad smell.” Then he glanced at Henrietta and her son. “Sorry. That bastard’s been giving my omega shit.”

“I’m Greg,” Henrietta’s son said, extending his hand. Ever since the confrontation, he’d been glancing between Spike, Kai, and Micah. “My dad threw a fit when I married my professor. ‘Course, he’d fired Dale before that, so I was pretty damn pissed.”

Micah froze; this was a s
urprise. “Wait, you’re Dale’s alpha?”

He’d heard the rumors, but he’d never poked his head out of his work to listen for more.

“And you must be Micah Davis.” Greg grinned. “June told Dale and I about you. Congrats.”

“Thanks.” Micah blushed. Well wishes from non-family? He’d take it. But Greg wasn’t quite non-family, was he?

He found Greg and Kai exchanging a long stare.

“Before today,” Greg said slowly, “I didn’t know I had a brother.”

“Half-brother,” Kai said, cracking a smile. “Me, neither. And this is Spike, my stepbrother. I guess he could kind of be your brother, too.”

Greg’s eyebrows crawled up as he looked between Spike, Kai, and Micah, as though realizing then that they were all bonded. But then he shrugged, and smiled. “Sure. Mom could use with some friendly faces around. Can’t you, Mom?”

Henrietta sighed, smiling sadly. For finding out that terrible news about her husband, she was surprisingly calm. “I guess I could.”

“You might like to meet our mom,” Spike said brightly. “Single moms for the win. Well, technically, Mom’s going to divorce our dad soon, but that’s close enough. You’ll like her. She likes making friends.”

Henrietta cheered up a little at that.

“What about coffee?” Greg asked. “I’d like to get to know my half-brother better. And the rest of your family. Pretty sure Dale wouldn’t mind having a dinner date, either.”

“Sounds good,” Micah said, wrapping his arms around Kai and Spike. They both nodded, but there was a promise in their eyes: Dinner, and as soon as we’re done, we’re heading home to mark you again.

Micah shivered. “Before that, I’ll have to go thank June,” he said. “You guys carry on with your conversation. I’ll be back.”

Spike turned to catch his hand. “I’ll come with. Kai probably wants some alone time with his new brother.”

Kai shot Spike an incredulous look.

Spike grinned. “I didn’t mean that way,” he said. Only to have Kai’s ears turn pink, and Greg laugh. “That’s just for me.”
