The Corsair Uprising Collection, Books 1-3 Page 49

by Trevor Schmidt

A foot stepped through, clad in a thick brown boot that traveled up to mid-shin. Once it touched the ground it was followed by a pair of human hands and a body, his fitted clothing accentuated by a large beige headscarf which covered most of his hair and mouth. It was his piercing blue eyes that frightened Death Wish upon every meeting.

Behind him, the portal became less intense, its edges dispersing into the air around it. It wasted away until it was a bright blue pinprick, floating in the air.

“If you’ve called me to this world, then I assume its done?” his dark voice asked.

Death Wish knelt before him, not daring to look him in the eyes for one second more than was necessary.

“It is as you commanded, Master. Zega is all that remains of the council and the Caretaker is dead. We have time before the Ansarans begin to suspect anything’s amiss.”

The dark figure nodded his head, his eyes darting around the room and taking in his new surroundings.

  “And our counterparts?”

“Dead, as ordered. This time, nothing will stand in our way.”

“Excellent, Sestra. You’ve earned your place at my side. Rise.”

Sestra stood, her limbs shaking before her master. The man lowered his scarf, letting the grains of golden sand seep out from the creases. The dust had permanently dyed the material its yellowed tone. His skin was smooth, flawless, with a day’s worth of stubble. His tangled blond hair was caked with sand and sweat. But those eyes. They glowed an unnatural shade, rife with an unknowable energy.

“Master Liam, what is my next mission?”

Liam smiled, his white teeth gleaming in the low light. Sestra far preferred this version of her master. He was strong, worthy of her adoration.

“If what you’ve told me is true, the Garuda Colony of this dimension is weak. Together, we’ll bring it to its knees.”

“For Vesta,” Sestra replied at once.

  Liam nodded his approval.

  “For Vesta.”
