Jenny was first, as ever—first to read the book chapter by chapter, and first in my life. We and the novel travelled a good deal. It was worked upon at the gracious Grand Hotel Bonnano in Pisa, the fine Blue Sky Hotel in Petra on Lesvos, the likeably quirky Hotel Il Girasole in Milan (where I was a guest at Stranimondi at the invitation of the good Barbra Bucci), the splendid Pan Pacific in Singapore (where the breakfast buffet seemed boundless) and the fine Pathumwan Princess in Bangkok. Come to that, it went to Fantasycon in Scarborough and the Festival of Fantastic Films in Manchester.
My old friend Keith Ravenscroft kept me supplied with good things, and also with the Blu-ray of A*P*E… My choice, and I’m perversely glad. In South Korea it was apparently released as The Great Counterattack of King Kong.
