Picking Up The Pieces: Book 1 of the Broken Series Page 22

by Sienna Grant

“Yeah, I’ll try,” nodding, I give him a small, sad smile.

I have a drink to toast to my mum, in fact, I have a few, I start to sway…whoops. Blake sits me down before I fall down, and I give him a drunken smile. He puts his hand on the back of my neck and pulls me towards him, he places a kiss on my forehead and then sits back in the chair. We reminisce about our younger years and the trouble we both got in, we used to drive her crazy! We laugh together, and before long, I’m laughing so much, I can’t get my breath.

“Ahh, we needed that, thanks, Blake.”

“I miss her too squirt, but I’m your big bro, anytime you need me, I’m here, you got it?”

“Yeah I got it. Love you.” I wrap my arms around his middle and lean into him.

“I love you too sis.” He puts his arms around me and hugs me back.

“Hey,” I look up to him, “Where’s the megabitch gone?” he looks down at me with that stern look of his. He grabs me in a headlock and holds me in place.

“I’ll let you get away with that today, she had to go back to work.” I don’t say anything else about her. He rubs his knuckles on my head, like he used to do when we were younger.

“Okay, I’m sorry, don’t touch my hair!” I hate people messing my hair up, and he knows it. He loosens his grip on me, and I stay in the comfort of my brother while I can.

Dad comes over and sits with us after mingling with friends and family, we share our stories with him too, some of which he had forgotten about, but some, he didn’t even know we’d done either. Once we’re done laughing, Blake stands.

“Here’s to mum,” we raise our glasses in a toast.

“To Angie, the love of my life. We cry a little, we hug, and we give mum the send-off she deserves. The best.

  Goodbye mum.
