‘You never will again.’ Lucia paused as she remembered something. ‘Rob, you once said you’d never be able to be sure with me if I was on the rebound from Thierry, but you must know by now that it’s not that?’
‘I knew as soon as I’d said it that I was wrong.’ Rob’s hands were on the move again, stroking over her back, warming her through the thin cotton of her pareo. ‘I knew then, and having to accept what you said about wanting comfort went completely against my fundamental sense of you.’
Lucia’s hands were caressing the centre of his back as she looked up into his face, which was very dark now that the evening light had faded to a coppery dusk.
‘We’ve given each other a difficult time, haven’t we?’ she prompted, and saw him smile.
‘So maybe we deserve each other?’ Rob quipped tenderly.
‘Yes, I think we do,’ Lucia agreed happily, and no more was said for a while as they proceeded to prove that they truly did
