Celeste couldn’t believe her luck. Abandoned on New Year’s Eve by her boyfriend, left dateless and alone for the biggest night of the year. After all the money she’d spent on a new party dress, all the time she’d spent longing for the big gala event among so many of her friends and acquaintances. For once she was going to stun them all, sweep on in and be the center of attention.

Instead, now she’d be sheepishly walking in along the sidelines to avoid anyone noticing the fact she was alone. That is, if she went at all.

She almost ignored her phone entirely when it rang, but a simple glance showed it was Dwayne calling. Her best friend. If there was one person she could tolerate speaking to then, it was him.

“Hey,” she said despondently, no life to her voice as she slumped upon her couch.

“Whoa, you sound even worse than me,” he replied on the other end, his voice lacking its usual enthusiasm, though his sadness was edged with concern for her. “What’s wrong?”

“I got ditched for the party,” she said, trying to hide the irritation. “Why? What’s wrong with you?”

Dwayne gave a wry laugh on the other end of the call.

“What’s so funny?” she said, some irritation rising in her voice as she lounged about in her sweat pants.

“Nothing, just that it makes both of us, it seems. You’re not the only one flying solo for the New Year’s again. Talk about short notice, huh?” he said, sounding almost as bitter as her over the whole thing.

“Ulg,” she groaned, leaning forward, resting her arms on her thighs. “I can’t believe people are still doing this at our age, fucking ditching last minute. Sometimes I think we’re the only ones that grew up and everyone else is stuck as a child.”

  She let out a sigh.

“I was probably just going to sit around and watch the ball drop on TV. I don’t know if I can handle everyone getting wasted and making out all around me,” she said.

Dwayne listened to her attentively as always, but the pensive quietness on the other end of the line indicated he was lost in thought.

“I have an idea,” he said to her, and that tone of voice meant only one thing: he was about to suggest something big. “Let’s go together, Celeste. You and me, as a date. Let’s not waste the biggest night of the year, c’mon.” He was already geared up to fight her resistance it seemed, defensively trying to persuade her.

She leaned back on the couch, folding her legs up under her as her cat wandered over, making itself at home in her lap. She brought a hand down to stroke her gently as she thought over his words.

“I’m not really feeling like getting ready,” she said, but her jaw tightened and anger welled up inside her. She wasn’t going to let Larry ruin her mood, or her night.

“You know what? Fuck it. He’s a dick. This is the last time he’s standing me up.”

“Great!” came Dwayne’s voice in response, a little delayed but excited. “I’ll come ‘round and pick you up at seven then?” he questioned more than stated, unsure of how much time she would need to prepare for the big outing.

That gave her just over three hours to get ready and, as she gently picked up the cat and put her on the floor, she couldn’t help but smile. Part malicious, part excitement.

She was going to get Larry back good.

“See you then,” she said with a dark smile that Dwayne couldn’t see.

Celeste had been on the fence about Larry for a few months, and as she pulled on the sexy leopard print dress, she was feeling ready. She pulled back her dark hair, eyes shimmering and rimmed with dark eyeliner.

She looked hot, she wasn’t even going to argue that point with herself for once. With a spritz of french vanilla perfume, she put on her hoop earrings. Grabbing for her bag, she took out her cellphone and sent Larry a quick text.

  We’re done.

It wasn’t anything fancy, but she didn’t care. He deserved to be broken up with over text, and that left her free to really ring in the New Year with a bang.

Walking down the stairs, she stepped into her stiletto heels and looked herself over in the hallway mirror.

Dwayne and she had been friends for years, but his relationship with Lydia had been really solid until the past few months. Now they were off more than they were on, and Celeste wasn’t going to pass that opportunity by.

When she got down to the front door, she found Dwayne waiting for her, standing beside his black BMW, the vehicle looking shiny and pristine, clearly the newest model. Though more eye catching than the car itself was the man, a fine suit on underneath his overcoat. Dwayne was a tall, well-built guy, Celeste knew he hit the gym every day, and how he filled out his suits always spoke of it.

“Well damn,” he said, with a sharp whistle as he looked Celeste over. “I had no idea what I was getting into,” he remarked approvingly, shaking his head in disbelief, drawing the eye up to that handsome, broad face of his, his jaw so well-defined.

He pulled open the passenger seat for her, though his eyes were unable to leave her long legs.

And she couldn’t have been feeling better about herself at that moment. It was amazing what a change of clothes and fortune could do for a person, and when she slid into the seat, she felt like a real catch.

“Thank you,” she said with a gracious grin.

Her heart thud, though, and she was already wondering how the evening would go. She was so excited. More excited than she could ever remember being on a date with Larry.

Just a few hours ago, Dwayne was her hot friend who she’d always wanted but never tried to get. Now they were spending New Year’s Eve together, and she’d be lying if she didn’t know what that could spell for them.

Dwayne climbed into the driver’s seat beside her, the door slamming shut as his car revved up. He couldn’t resist taking another look over at her, from head to toe and back again.

“Well, maybe it wasn’t such a bad thing Lydia and me broke up after all,” he said right as he pulled the car out onto the dark streets of New York. “I mean, I traded up for this evening,” he said with a cheeky smile that only enhanced his handsome features.

Of course, even more than his good looks, the fact that him and Lydia had broken up stole the show.

Celeste’s head turned to him and she knew there was nothing she could do to hide her surprise. She was absolutely shocked by that, though perhaps she shouldn’t be.

“When’d that happen?” she asked, stretching her legs out. Her dress barely hid her ass, rhinestones sparkling between her clavicles and pointing the way to her large breasts.

“Been building for a while,” he said with a shrug of his broad shoulders. “But I was blind about it. Kept trying, even though clearly she just wanted to move on. I was actually gonna surprise her with this car for the holidays, but she said she wanted to see her family on the other side of the country. Alone.”

Dwayne gave a wry laugh about that and stroked the steering wheel.

“For the better, huh? Giving gifts to a spoiled, billionaires-daughter doesn’t really feel rewarding anyhow,” he said glibly.

Most of the time she forgot how wealthy Dwayne was, though she couldn’t help but appreciate the leather interior of the vehicle, or the fact that it was his coaxing that made her save up to afford the swankiest party in town.

The longer she spent in the car, the more excited she was.

“I couldn’t imagine,” she admitted honestly. “And yea, you two are probably better off. I think you stuck with her long after she started treating you like shit.”

“I’m a sucker for love,” he said casually. “Or at least, what I thought was love.” He laid one arm down to rest beside her as he steered the way, driving them towards the party. As well-to-do as Dwayne might be, he wasn’t like his ex, he’d not been born into it. “That Larry’s a lout too, though.
Never could understand what you saw in him.”

Celeste shrugged. It was sad she was already having a hard time remembering why she stayed so long, other than being bored and lonely. But he hadn’t really helped with either of those things. Always too obsessed with hanging out with the boys, and not interested at all in her own needs.

“I don’t know. Over now, though. I broke up with him by text which is better than he deserves.”

“Damn straight,” came Dwayne’s instant response, a nod of his head as he grew a smile once more. “We’re gonna light the night up you and I, nothin’ holding us back then,” he declared as he pulled up into the parking garage of their destination, a high-rise tower in the heart of the city.

He got out of the car, rounded about the vehicle and opened Celeste’s door for her, smiling all the while like it was the happiest day of his life. All the sadness drained from him as their time together had only just begun.

And she was feeling just fantastic. Nothing to hold her back as her arm slipped through his. She was freezing in her slutty little dress, but that didn’t matter at all to her. And it certainly wouldn’t as the clock struck midnight.

“I can’t fucking wait for this,” she said earnestly. “I’ve been looking forward to it since you told me how awesome it was last year.”

Dwayne smiled at her happily, guiding her to the elevator.

“It’s the sort of thing I knew you’d enjoy,” he stated, hitting the button to take them on up to the top floor.

She could feel the hard muscles of his thick forearm even through that coat of his. He was in far better shape than Larry could ever hope to be, not with his lack of drive. Yet all the while she touched his arm, his eyes glimmered with excitement as he looked over at her, looking to be downright proud to have her on his arm.

She certainly never saw him with his ex looking so damn happy.

Celeste was abuzz with energy, especially as she started hearing the music reverberating through the metal. The ‘club’ was in the upstairs of an expensive office building. Since the workers all left by the time the party got started at night, there were never any issues, and noise complaints weren’t a thing they’d ever worry about.

Celeste was already bouncing her head to the beat, so excited to get on the dance floor and grind against her date.

As the doors swung open, the colourful, oscillating lights struck her, and the sight of so many gorgeous, well-to-do partiers greeted her. Dwayne took off his coat and handed it over to the coat check lady with a smile before he led her on in. The dance floor was huge, and there were two bars within sight just from where Celeste stood.

Though more striking was the view of the cityscape. The lights of New York and the ocean beyond all laid out before her, looking absolutely brilliant.

She’d heard about the place, she’d seen pictures, but nothing could’ve prepared her for the reality. She was blown away, and her lips dropped open with appreciation. She squeezed into Dwayne a bit tighter and suddenly didn’t feel so confident as she had a moment earlier, but when he hugged her back, she relaxed.

“This is amazing,” she said breathlessly before realizing he likely couldn’t hear her over the music. She could barely hear herself.

“And so are you,” he responded to her in kind, giving such a bright, white-toothed smile as he led her on down to the dance floor. There were balconies outside the glass, but the warmth of all those bodies was such a great shift for Celeste, dressed in her skimpy outfit.

Without wasting a moment’s notice, Dwayne took her hand and began to dance with her. It wasn’t even the sort of half-assed man-dance that Larry and all her other boyfriends gave her. It was smooth and practiced, showing off both his fit form and the work that had gone into developing some skill with the act.

Dating rich girls pays off, she thought to herself with a grin, her body pressed up against his. She let him lead the tempo, the rhythm, her own motions a bit more seductive and sultry as she looked up at him.

How had they been kept apart so long? She knew it wasn’t just hope that made her see that twinkle in his eyes, the smile he gave just for her. She’d be an idiot to think that.

Her hand pressed to his chest and she felt the steady beat of his heart keep time with the rhythm of the music, and it made her smile grow.

The two of them blew the others away, with Dwayne leading her through such a flowing, beautiful number. His two strong hands moved over her waist, her hips, took hold of her hands at point, guiding her along, showing her exactly how and when to make each move.

It was the first time being guided so intimately by a man came so natural for Celeste, and he didn’t make a single misstep. A single miscalculation, his hands never losing their warm, guiding strength as he took her about, their bodies moving through the night. Until at last a pause in the music came and he pulled her in close.

“You want a drink?” he asked her, pressing his forehead to hers as he looked down at the much shorter woman.

Her eyes went up to his and she already felt drunk. Absolutely, head over heels, drunk in lust. She licked her lips and their mouths were so close she almost touched his.

“I’d like that,” she admitted, but only so that she had a chance to let her own beating heart calm down. There was such an energy in the air.

With one thick arm of his about her waist, his strong hand grasping her hip, he guided her on over to one of the bars. Where other men clamoured for the bartender’s service, Dwayne plucked a bill from his pocket and, with a loud, booming voice, he caught the woman’s attention.

“Pina colada for my lady here, and a lime vodka for me,” he said, squeezing Celeste’s hip as the bartender dutifully fixed them their drinks and speedily placed them before the two of them.

Celeste took the fancy glass into her hand and glanced up at him out of the corner of her eyes. She couldn’t even remember the last time she’d gone drinking with him, but he’d still remembered her favourite drink.

She pressed the straw between her lips, and felt as his hand spider webbed along her hip. Her heart fluttered and her loins stirred.

  She wanted him bad.

“Thanks, Dwayne,” she said before chewing on her lip.

He squeezed her tighter in against his side and drank at his own drink, the strong vodka not fazing the dashing man in the slightest.

“Thank you for agreeing to be my date,” he said in return, nabbing the bartender’s attention once more with a subtle gesture to indicate he wanted two more drinks for them.

He leaned in then, his face right up beside hers, the aroma of his natural musk mixed with a light scent of some cologne, just the subtlest of hints. His face was shaven perfectly, despite the thick dark hairs that sprouted upon his face lest he not keep up on it.

“You’re the most beautiful girl in the whole club,” he murmured to her in privacy, right against her ear. “And I’ve been longing for you a long time, truth be told.”

He pulled away, just in time for the other drinks to arrive, and he slipped the bartender another hundred. Though his smiles were all for Celeste.

She could barely believe what she was hearing.

Sure, she’d come with the intent to maybe seduce him. Steal a kiss or something and spite Larry for being such a clod.

A little harmless flirting between friends.

But those words... Those dark, delicious words. She couldn’t help that they made her knees quiver, her nipples tightening beneath her push up bra.

Her lips dropped open and she could barely force words out, but she managed.

  “R-really?”

Dwayne nodded to her, his gaze never leaving her face as he started on his second drink. That hard, powerful hand of his roaming along her side, over her waist and hip, then down to her thigh just a little before making its way back up.

“Really,” he said, those dark eyes of his boring into her, as if he could see right into the depths of her soul. It was intense, and she got a fuller appreciation f
or how calm and collected he could look no matter the circumstances. It must’ve been what allowed him to rise to such success.

“Ending up with you on my arm was no runner up. It’s more like a dream come true,” he said, open and clear, loud enough for the other drinkers nearby to overhear.

Celeste’s emotions spun within her, but it didn’t stop her from leaning up, hard and fast, pressing her mouth to his. She didn’t have that control he did, that patience to tease. No, she was just raw emotions, open and passionate as she brought her tongue against his.

It was too soon to blame the alcohol, but they met in that moment for a passionate kiss. Their tongues intertwined, Dwayne’s strong arms wrapping about her, grasping her rear and tugging her up off the floor a few inches as they embraced.

The night had barely begun, and already they were wild for one another. The bumping and grinding of the dance floor only the sweet beginning of their foreplay. She had never felt so comfortable and safe as she did then in Dwayne’s arms, feeling the hard muscle and comforting grasp that kept her aloft.

She finished off her first drink quickly, though she plucked up the second in her hand, as she looked up at him. Her mouth still tasted like his.

“Why didn’t you ever say anything?” she asked, though honestly, her mind was more on how he was squeezing her butt. His hands were so firm yet not angry, and it was driving her wild.

He lowered her down to the floor, but never quite released her, not as he placed a few more kisses upon her lips. Nor even after.

“We were always with someone else,” he said, staring down into her eyes, getting lost in them as the music played and the lights flashed all around. “But you were always on my mind anyhow,” he confessed in that deep, husky voice of his.

Her panties were soaking wet, she could already tell, and she squirmed at his words.
