Starstream Academy (The Navigators Book 1) Page 6

I shrugged my thoughts away before wandering over to Gypsy and Leatre when the teacher waved us off in annoyance. Gypsy was still weight lifting, but now had doubled the weight and was laughing. Leatre was giving her a smile and tossed me a shyer one when I got in close. “Hey,” I said, watching as Gypsy quickly put the weights in their place before sitting up.

“Hello Rosie!” she said with a smile. I waved and moved closer to them, helping Leatre pull Gypsy to her feet. She stumbled a bit before relaxing and looking down at me. “Your teacher is mad again?” she asked curiously. I nodded and sighed before rubbing my head. We may have been at the school for almost three weeks now, but Silver continued to aggravate the teacher.

“Hey I was wondering if you could show me some more moves. Since I don’t think I’m going to learn too much in this class,” I said. Excitement appeared on Leatre’s face and she clapped her hands before nodding excitedly.

“Of course! I was hoping someone would ask. Gypsy and Eagalia already are pretty good, but I was hoping to work with you or Silver!” she gushed before blushing and rubbing her face sheepishly. “Sorry. I just really like helping people,” Leatre said shyly. I shook my head and gave her a smile before looking up when the door to the gym opened loudly. Madam Matron marched in and looked around before our eyes met and she rushed over.

“All team mates to Navigator Jones come over here!” she yelled. I jumped and looked back, watching as Eagalia released Lollipop from a headlock and patted her back. Silver cartwheeled over from behind them and I looked up at Madam Matron, who cleared her throat before looking down at us. “The headmaster has been spending the last three weeks attempting to keep the Alien Space council from coming to the school, but it seems his time has run out. The six of you will shower quickly before heading to the headmaster’s office. Cadet Crystal, your mother is here and your father is here Cadet Giga,” she warned before nodding to the locker room. We all quickly ran over and inside, stomping to our lockers and opening them.

“Thank God we got called out,” grumbled Lollipop as she pulled off her shirt before shifting through her locker for her button up. I shrugged and pulled off my pants, grabbing my uniform slacks and pulling them on before sitting to take off my shirt. I shook out the article of clothing before pulling on my button up and tucking it into my pants. “Think the teachers eventually going to snap?” Lollipop asked me. I looked to her and found she was tying her tie and looking at me from the corner of her eye.

“Our fitness instructor?” I asked, kicking off my athletic shoes and grabbing my dress shoes.

“Yeah. If I was him then I would have already quit or punished her,” she said. I hummed and pulled on my shoes, lacing them up before standing.

“Silver’s just enthusiastic. I don’t think she means to piss of the teacher,” I pointed out before grabbing my tie and shooting it a glare. The only one I allowed to tie it was Gypsy because I was afraid Lollipop would choke me and Silver got too excited some times. I shook my head before grabbing my jacket and shutting my locker, heading off to find Gypsy.

She was in the middle of talking to Eagalia about something so I just walked over and tossed on my jacket as I stood off to the side, waiting for them to stop. Eagalia took notice of me and grinned while Gypsy’s ears twitched before she turned her head and looked me up then down. She took notice of the tie in my hands before giving me a smile and taking it gently.

“Still having issues with that?” she asked. I nodded and turned towards her as she fixed my tie around my neck.

“What do you think is going to happen?” I asked as she finished with my tie and straightened my collar. Our eyes met and she sighed before moving back.

“We’re going to be paraded around like a prized trophy or something. This usually happens,” she said before making a face and grabbing my VISOR. She began to clean the lenses and I looked to Eagalia, who was leaned against the lockers.

“Trust me Rosie. Gypsy knows what’s going to be happening. I’m not really that high up on the ladder on my home world, but I’m pretty sure my clan and family will jump higher up in the hierarchy,” she grumbled before making a disgusted face. I frowned then nodded my thanks when Gypsy passed me back my VISOR. I put them on my face then looked back when Silver and Leatre walked over. Leatre seemed to be attempting to disappear into her uniform while for once, Silver was nervous looking.

“I don’t want to do this! I hate the council meetings,” Leatre whimpered out.

“Doesn’t help that we’re going to be the focus huh?” Lollipop said was she walked over and fixed her shirt cuff. Leatre whimpered more and I rubbed my forehead before shooting Lollipop a scowl.

“Don’t tease Leatre like that. You know she doesn’t like attention,” I scolded. Lollipop rolled her eyes, but apologized and I looked to the side when I heard the locker room door opening. Madam Matron walked in then looked to us before nodding.

“Come along! We don’t have much time!” she called. We all fell into step behind her, walking in silence as she led us from the gym towards where the school sports were hosted. I looked back and at the others, who looked a mixture of annoyance and nervousness. She didn’t say anything when we got to the building, waving us through, but grabbing my arm before I could go. “The headmaster told me to tell you to only focus forward. Trust your instincts and everything will be alright,” she said before releasing me. I nodded hesitantly before heading into the building and straightening. I unconsciously straightened out my uniform before jogging over to my team and moving in front of them. Headmaster Rockefeller gave me a gentle smile before holding out his elbow for me to take.

“Heads up, backs straight, and please to stay focused ladies,” he said while shooting Lollipop a meaningful look. Lollipop grumbled before moving into line and he hummed once before tugged me forward. I felt a pang go through my head as my thoughts began to whirlwind. So many things could happen and I grimaced as more pain assaulted my senses until I felt a gentle squeeze to my arm. I blinked twice before looking up at Headmaster Rockefeller, who gave me a small smile.

“Relax,” he said softly. I felt my mind begin to calm and I nodded before looking forward as he led us outside. Lights blinded me for a brief moment, but when my eyes adjusted I was floored with how many aliens there were. The stadium was silent and he led me forward, to the stage. Several people were seated on the stage and looking forward, tired looks on their faces as they gazed off into space.

I swallowed and one of the people looked to me her black eyes widening slightly before her neutral expression shifted into one of glee. I felt slightly more nervous as we climbed onto the stage and the headmaster waved to an open seat. I quickly took it while he walked up to a microphone and began to talk.

My team was standing in front of the stage, stiff and unmoving while he continued to speak. “You’re just like Brenda,” a silky voice said from my side. I stiffened before looking over at the grinning woman. Dark circles were under her eyes and she was thin looking. Her long blond hair contained a single inky black streak and the rest hung around her face like a thick curtain. She gave me another grin and I swallowed again before looking away.

“Wh-Who’s Brenda?” I asked lowly. I heard her chuckle softly before I looked back at her and watched as she looked forward.

“The last neutral before you appeared,” she said lowly. I frowned in confusion before one of the other people growled and hissed slightly.

“Silence,” he snarled quietly at the woman. She sneered at him and I frowned deeply. The person, a thickly built man, frowned down his nose at me before his white eyes widened and he looked away. He leaned back in his set, scowling off to the side while I looked to the woman. She was looking forward again and I frowned slightly before looking at my lap.

“I’m pleased to announce my apprentice! A new True Navigator and a Neutral Navigator as well! I would love to introduce Rose Mary Jones!” I heard the headmaster call. I looked up and watched as he turned to look at me, a smile
on his face as he waved me over. I slowly stood and walked over, the crowd beginning to murmur as I got closer to the mic. The headmaster moved back a bit before placing a hand on my shoulder, leaning his head down to my ear. “Don’t be afraid Rose Mary, they’re mostly good people,” he said softly. I nodded curtly before moving forward and stopping a few inches from the mic.

“Hello,” I said cautiously. I heard a louder murmur from the crowd and I grimaced as my head began to hurt again. My instincts were telling me to straighten out, which I did, and I looked out with my head held high. The murmuring continued until everything quieted down and the headmaster moved to my side again.

“I will be introducing my apprentice personally to the leaders of the ASC right now! I’m pleased to welcome the ruler of the Elysians! Ruler Azrael and his co-Ruler Gabrielle! Also the ruler of the Fleetians! Commander Green!” he said with a smile. He pulled me back slightly then turned me to the right so I was facing three aliens. Two were human looking with fluffy golden wings and red robes while the final alien was a floating eyeball. I resisted the urge to say something and shuffled forward slightly when the headmaster gently pushed me.

“Hello,” I said, feeling a little stupid as I held out my hand for one of them to take. One of the golden winged people moved forward, a man with black hair and golden eyes.

“Hello young one. I am Ruler Azrael,” he said before taking my hand and shaking it. I nodded to him then looked to his companion, who was starting at me with a look in her eyes. “This is my co-ruler, Gabrielle,” he said. He grew quiet before sighing and shaking his head, a sad look appearing on his face. I frowned in confusion, but jumped when the eyeball moved forward and dipped forward a bit.

“I’m Commander Green,” it said before moving back.

“Nice to meet you,” I said in return before looking back at Gabrielle. She stared down at me before taking in a deep and shuddery breathe.

“I’m sorry. I was being rude,” she said suddenly before moving forward and holding out her hand. I hesitantly took it and her hand tightened around mine before releasing it quickly. “I am Ruler Gabrielle,” she said while jerking her head in a nod and looking away. I nodded to her and moved back when the headmaster placed a hand on my shoulder.

“Many do not remember the neutral Navigators,” he began, another speech streaming out of his mouth. I was led back to my seat and the woman from earlier smiled at me while I awkwardly shifted in my seat.

“I can’t believe that Gabrielle still hasn’t gotten over Betty Joe,” the woman grumbled. I frowned and looked to her, but she was smirking and looking forward. The white eyed man from earlier was now glaring at her and so was an identical looking woman from his side. I shook my head at her words before looking forward then grimacing as the crowd began to clap in a thunderous applauds.

“What happens now?” I mumbled softly, watching as the crowd seemed to shift in unison before some of them stood.

“We talk to the prized pigs of the council,” the woman grumbled before standing. I slowly stood as well while the man shifted to his feet.

“You could have a little more respect Chaotic,” the man rumbled out.

“My name is Heather if you bothered to learn it,” she said. I looked to her and found she was just shaking her head while looking to the man. She snorted then looked to me before smiling again and cocking her head to the side. “So tiny neutral, how are you?” she asked. I frowned lightly before shrugging and looking to Headmaster Rockefeller. He was talking to the two rulers of the Elysian planet so I turned back to the taller woman at my side. The white eyed twins glared at her before looking at me and curiousness appeared on their faces. I felt uncomfortable under their gaze so I turned and looked to my team, who was being led onto the stage. I felt my muscle begin to relax and nodded to the tall woman, Heather.

“Excuse me,” I said before heading over to them. Heather grunted from behind me and I moved over to the others, who gave me weak smiles.

“I’ve never really taken notice of how many people are actually on the council,” Gypsy said weakly, her ears folded back. Leatre just whimpered at her side while Eagalia rubbed her eyes.

“I’m never teasing Leatre again. I’m not usually one to think much of others opinions, but damn. How did you do it?” Lollipop asked. I shrugged helplessly before looking to the headmaster, who was smiling widely, the white eyes twins and Heather following him with varying expressions on their faces.

“Rose Mary! I just wanted to speak with you before dismissing you back to your remaining classes! It seems that the council has pulled one of their laws!” he said with cheer in his voice.

“Pulled a law?” I asked in confusion. The others looked to each other before focusing on the headmaster, who straightened out and smiled down at me.

“Yes. I mentioned before that when I died that the remaining True Navigators were going to be neutralized….” he said somberly before beaming widely. “But because of your appearance, the True Navigators now have another lease on life. You’ve saved us from extinction,” he said happily. I blinked in shock as the three people behind him bowed their heads to me and I nodded to them before frowning.

“So the five of us the only ones left?” I asked in confusion. They frowned and looked to one another before Heather rolled her eyes and shook her head.

“There’s another Chaotic, but he’s kind of banished,” she said the white eyed twins glaring at her.

“Don’t worry the kid!” snapped the male twin. Heather snorted before sneering at him then looking back to me.

“Look I’m just giving her a warning,” she said.

“She doesn’t need a warning Heather!” the headmaster snapped before scowling at her. Heather shot him a dark look and I shifted in place before jumping when a hand touched my shoulder. I looked back then up at Gypsy, who nodded off to the side. I slowly back away with the others before turning and frowning myself. A banished Navigator? That didn’t sound good.

  Chapter 8

  Glimpse Of Chaos

Three days passed in a normal daze and I soon found myself in my room working on my homework. It was boring so I sighed before rubbing my eyes, looking up from my work to relax a bit. I heard a snort and looked back curiously, grinning a bit when I saw that Gypsy and Eagalia were playing an intense looking card game. Lollipop was in the middle of helping Silver with her homework and Leatre was listening to music and humming along with a familiar sounding song. I turned back to my work and sighed again before leaning forward a bit. “Something wrong Rosie?” Lollipop called from behind me. I looked back before pulling off my VISOR and rubbing my eyes tiredly.

“Nothing. I’m just a little tired,” I said before shaking my head and placing my VISOR on my desk. She shot me a look of mild concern, but I waved her off and looked to Leatre, who was now looking at me in a worried way.

“I heard that humans suffer from sickness sometimes! You should rest for a while Rosie!” she said before standing and shuffling over. I gave her a smile before shaking my head while Gypsy looked up from her cards and Eagalia attempted to cheat. Gypsy growled out of the side of her mouth and Eagalia slumped back in her seat with a pout.

“Are you talking about colds? Do you have a cold Rosie?” she asked in concern. I smiled slightly before shaking my head and feeling my face heat up a bit.

“Guys really I’m fine,” I said before scowling when Silver bounced over and placed her hand on my forehead. She hummed then moved back before cocking her head to the side and looking at the others.

“Her temperature is normal as far as I can tell,” she said before looking at me with narrowed eyes and leaning close to my face. I leaned back and she gasped before straightening out. “Sleep deprivation! She’s not getting enough rest!” she said before tugging me out of my seat by my tie. I wheezed as she pulled me over to my bed and shoved me onto it, a muffled cry escaping me as I fell. I bounced slightly before rubbing my neck and glaring up at her. She gave me a grin before reachin
g to tug off my shoes. I kicked slightly and tried to move her back while struggling.

“I am not sleep deprived!” I cried, looking to the others for help. Lollipop was in the middle of shifting through her bag while Leatre walked over to help Silver. I groaned and flopped back, glaring at Gypsy’s bunk and sighing again. We were getting closer as a team and I felt for a moment that maybe I had been foolish to think that they wouldn’t notice my lack of sleep. It wasn’t like I was having issues sleeping, but the headmaster’s Navigator studies class had picked up and homework was slowly killing me. I rubbed my eyes and sat up before scowling when Lollipop shoved a cup into my hands.

“We’re not blind boss!” she said in a sing song voice, sitting on her bed and giving me a grin. I rolled my eyes before sighing and looking to the clear liquid in the cup. I pouted slightly before drinking it and making a face.

“Ugh that tasted terrible,” I mumbled. Silver freed my foot from my shoe and moved to do the other when the door began to open. I kicked her back slightly before scrambling to the top of my bed and looking to the door with wide eyes as it opened. Gypsy and Eagalia moved out of the way while Leatre and Silver quickly moved to their bed. Madam Matron poked her head in before looking to me and frowning deeply.

“What are you all doing?” she asked in confusion.

“Making sure Rosie gets rest,” Silver said softly. Madam Matron hummed before nodding and leaving, Leatre moving to help me remove my shoes again. I waved off her hands before doing it myself and sighing, tugging off my tie as I laid back. The medicine that Lollipop had given me was beginning to take effect and I rolled over, slowly drifting to sleep.
