Aryx had suspected that Hojak would find merit in his recommendation. Better a missing god than a living hero, who might someday prove a thorn.
Brae and his companion held their expressions, but their eyes informed Aryx of what they thought of naming any site after the Homed One. No, the Kazelati would not long be a part of this alliance, and in some ways, Aryx could not blame them. He had managed to bring the Knights of Takhisis and his people together, but if it meant they once more took the ruinous path of conquest, the dusky gray minotaur doubted he wanted to be a part of it.
Of course, first they still had to win the war against Father Chaos’s minions. As Broedius brought up plans for a march to the knighthood’s post near Kernen, Aryx quietly stepped back from the assembly. He walked along until the Blood Sea would permit him to go no farther, then stared out at the now calm waters.
They would win, Aryx felt certain of that, and then, as Kiri-Jolith had hinted, the minotaurs would take a greater role in the affairs of all Krynn. Their alliance with the Knights of Takhisis promised that much of their new role would involve conflict, but he hoped it might also eventually involve a change for the better.
We have been enslaved but have always thrown off our shackles, so the litany began. Aryx drew Truth’s Guardian from its harness, feeling comfort in its weight, the way it fit his hand. We have been driven back, but always returned to the fray stronger than before. We have risen to new heights when all other races have fallen into decay. We are the future of Krynn, the fated masters of the entire world. We are the children of destiny.
Indeed, the minotaurs’ day of destiny was at hand. If not tomorrow, then soon … very soon. Aryx hoped only that his people would be prepared when it happened … or else their day would quickly be followed by a long, long night from which they might never rise again.
