Alpha's Corruption Page 11

“Wait, I don’t understand.” Even after all that had happened, Aura found it difficult to find the words to describe what occurred between a man and a woman. “You won’t be with her?”

“Eventually, we will be required to produce in heir.”

  “What happens until then?”

He hesitated for a fraction of a second. “It is customary for the marriage to be consummated, I’m not sure what Princess Sirena expects beyond that.”

“Does she know about me? That you’ve come here tonight?”

  “Of course not.”

And that was what really made the choice for her. She represented all that Castor hated about himself, but he wasn’t strong enough to let her go.

She would have to be strong enough for them both.

Even as she kissed him, Aura felt the struggle within him through the tension of his muscles and the grim set of his mouth. And when she bit him again, more like a nip with just the flat edge of her teeth, it seemed to loosen the last bit of resistance within him.

Her body hit the bed with a hard bounce before he covered her body with his own, hands mapping the curves of her breasts, waist and hips before moving with unerring accuracy to her center. He made a growl that was entirely unnecessary because her body was already ready for him. She was always ready for him.

One finger slipped into her slick-drenched channel as he forced her to accept a bruising kiss. He did not bother to remove the gown that she still wore, merely hiking it up high enough to allow him access.

Castor shifted down her body so that his head was between her thighs. Teasing her now, he breathed out hard along the tender skin above her mound, making her belly clench. He asked no more questions, merely lowered his head and sucked the bud of her clitoris into his mouth, growling as he did it.

When his gaze rose to meet hers, the look in his eyes was feral and dangerous. She stared down at his face, suddenly riveted, knowing that letting herself be alone in a room with him was a grave mistake.

Because with his fingers moving in small circles within her and his mouth attacking her flesh, it was easy to forget that he couldn’t protect her. That he wouldn’t protect her.

But as the sensation built between her thighs, an awareness of him filtered over her senses. She recognized the struggle within him because she felt it too.

And when the orgasm rolled over her, unbidden tears burned in her eyes. When he rose to kiss her again, his mouth tasted of her own intense desire and an equal measure of pain.

  “Look at me.”

The rough voice rolled over her and she opened delicate lids that she had not realized were closed. She stared into eyes that seemed like swirls of blue light in the darkness, something that she could lose herself within. In that moment, he was in her mind and in her heart with an intensity that shocked her. How could a man be both her salvation and greatest torment?

As he entered her, forcing the quivering flesh of her cunt to allow him passage, another climax already built. His voice saturated her thoughts, even though his lips had not moved.

  Mine. Mine. Mine.

Or perhaps it was simply her own thoughts, magnified and clarified until she could no longer discern what was hers and what was his.

His hips twisted against hers as his mouth moved over the skin of her neck, leaving a burning trail of sensation that swirled through her insides. Her breathing was ragged as he pulsed within her, and she was only moments from completely losing herself.

“Come with me,” he commanded harshly against the skin of her neck.

And at the same moment that his knot swelled within her, his mouth moved to the scarred flesh at her shoulder. He pressed his teeth against her, but not hard enough to break the skin. Instead, his tongue dipped out to lick a trail of fire along the twisted flesh. Her body bowed as a scream was ripped from her throat, loud enough to be audible throughout the pavilion if anyone else were awake to hear it.

“Castor,” she whispered, memorizing the shape of the word on her lips because she might never speak it again. Her body came apart underneath him, her womb contracting with endless spasms as she fell over the edge into the oblivion.

The burn of the mark was matched only by the ache in her heart.

Aura dozed, so lightly that she barely woke when Castor slipped from her arms and tiptoed out of the room. She did not come fully awake until she heard the click of the door closing behind him.

After a moment, she reoriented herself to the empty room around her as reality hit like a splash of cold water. She would never see Castor again. Ignoring the pang in her heart, Aura rose from the bed to change into the simplest dress available and prepare herself.

Pre-dawn light streaked across the room as she crept around the pool on bare feet, slippers hanging loosely from one hand. She could hear the gentle snores of the women who occupied the rooms surrounding her — women who seemed content with their captivity. Not for the first time, she questioned the wisdom of her actions. There was a chance that Faseer might not reach her here and she had no idea what waited for her outside of these walls.

But then she saw an image of Castor standing at the top of that massive staircase, his hand resting at the back of the beautiful princess from Vigil. Resolve hardened in her heart and that was enough to carry her forward. She had no knowledge of what the future held, but she understood that staying here would destroy her.

The guards who normally stood outside of the doors were nowhere to be found as the door that was always locked pushed easily open under her hands. Part of her wondered if Legion had arranged some terrible fate for the guards. She could only hope that he had simply paid them off.

A man that she did not recognize stood in the empty hallway, just outside of the massive doors. He was so still that she would have mistaken him for one of the statues that lined the corridor, if not for the shine in his eyes.

“Gods above,” she said with a gasp. She knew he would be waiting for her, but did not realize the man would practically appear from thin air. “Adrian, I assume.”

She had been given his name but little else, not that any more information was needed. He would ensure that she escaped the palace, that was all that mattered.

“Yes. I will transport you to the safe house.” His murmured tone was barely audible even in the silent hallway. “Unless you’ve changed your mind.”

Aura shook her head, even as curls of fear moved through her belly. “Let’s go.”

“Where you’re headed won’t be as comfortable as this.”

And she’d spent her entire life on a derelict space station. “I can handle it.”

“There’s no coming back after this. If I make you disappear, it will be for good.”

Judging from the look of him, Aura had no doubt he was skilled in making people disappear. “I know.”

His gaze flicked briefly over her slim form and empty hands. “You carry nothing?”

Her reply was a simple one. “It’s the same thing that I arrived with.”

As if he understood more than what she said, his head tilted to the side. Aura distantly noted that Adrian was attractive, but all darkness. Everything about him seemed designed to fade into the shadows, unnoticeable until the moment he chose to reveal himself. She understood that she had no reason to fear him, but that this was not a man to be reckoned with.

Adrian turned abruptly and disappeared down the dark hallway on silent footsteps.

Aura did not hesitate as she followed him towards an uncertain future. She had made her choice. Her only option now was to see it through, even though her heart ached at the thought of never seeing Castor again. His name had been written onto her soul and she would suffer for it the rest of her life.

Pain was the price she paid for freedom.
