by Midnite Love

You are a beautiful woman, Sonnet. You don’t need to show your body off like that. Men like it when a woman leaves something to the imagination. They will sleep with you and use you up, but they won’t marry you. And you for sure can get a job dressed like that.”

Sonnet sighed, “Not you too. I got enough chicks my own age hating on me.”

Lawd forgive me, but I’m about to cuss this little trick out, Sista Bessie thought.

“Hating on you? Is that what you think I’m doing? I only want what’s best for you and all the girls.”

Sonnet was too outdone. Where there hell did this old bird get off trying to teach her something?

“The best thing for me is you staying out of my personal business. I appreciate you taking me in, but you don’t run me because you gave me that little $40.00. I hope you don’t plan on trying to hang that over my head. And for the record, I don’t need any tips on getting a job. I done got by just fine this long without one. And why should I be worried about who men want for a wife when I can reap the same benefits without the headache? Last I checked the jumpoff business was paying swell.”

She was repulsed at the mere thought of having to do some actual labor. As far as marriage was concerned, there was a time she would have considered marrying Kenterris if things would have worked out. But since it didn’t, Sista Bessie could have a seat with all that sanctified mumbo jumbo.

Humph! Trying to give out advice on who niggas wanna wife when her old ass is still single.

By the time they pulled up to the house, Sista Bessie was at her wits end with Sonnet. Normally, she had the patience of Job when it came to things like this, but Sonnet was on a whole other level of delirium. It was best that she let her move on before she forgot she was saved and catch a case on this heffa.

Since Sista Bessie remained silent the rest of the ride, Sonnet thought she had put her in her place. That couldn’t have been further from the truth. Before Sonnet could jump out the car, Sista Bessie locked the door and turned to her.

“Open the door,” Sonnet grumbled as she yanked on the handle. “Oh I get it, you wanna say your little piece, well go ahead.” She folded her arms, leaned her head against the window and waited.

“Forgive me Lawd! Now I done tried to be nice and have patience with your little wanna be bougie ass, but I done seen and heard enough! Lawd knows I didn’t wanna get my pressure up!” Sista Bessie yelled.

Sonnet raised her head and looked at Sista Bessie in astonishment at the way she was talking.

“Oh, what? You thought cause I was an old church lady I was slow? Well surprise bitch, I ain’t always been saved. And I’m about two minutes from slapping that smirk of your damn face.”

“Now look here...” Sonnet tried to speak, but Sista Bessie cut her off.

“Shut your ass up! I let you and your little mangy ass mutt up in my home when you didn’t have a place to lay your head, and this how you act? I try to tell you something that will help you out in the long run, but that ain’t what you want. I see why you lost everything and everybody. Ungrateful little trick, that’s why your friend put you out. You think the sun rises and sets on your ass. Well you ‘bout to be in for a rude awaking, because this is your last day here. If you don’t wanna listen to me, you can listen to them cars going by while you sleeping on the street tonight.”

“Kiss my ass bitch! I don’t need you! I don’t need nobody! Lemme out of this car!”

Sister Bessie obliged and unlocked the door. The sooner she got rid of Sonnet, the better.

Sonnet jumped out of the car and raced in the house as she passed the other ladies who were now watching everything unfold. She grabbed her original clothes that she wore there and stuffed them in the Forever 21 bag. She then called out to Gucci and took off on foot.

If I have to sell some ass to survive then so be it. As long as I got this million dollar pussy between my legs imma be alright. Mark my words, these bitches ain’t seen the last of Sonnet.

  Chapter 17- Consequences

“Damn I thought this nigga never would get back to me,” Aviare said to himself as he made his way across the abandoned school yard.

This was the day he had been waiting for. He would do this last run for Marcellus, and then he would be free to go.

When he finally made his way to the play area where he was supposed to meet his mark, he leaned against the monkey bars and waited.

Pretty soon, a young thug appeared that looked to be around the same age as himself approached him. Marcellus informed him that the person he was meeting would be carrying the money in a brown paper bag, and would be wearing a navy blue hoodie and a white Raiders snapback. This guy fit the description to a tee.

  “Aviare?”

  “Yeah that’s me”

  POW! POW! POW!

Three ear shattering shots rang out. Aviare’s body jerked violently before collapsing to the ground. For a split second, everything went numb. Then it hit him, a searing hot pain that left him writhing in agony. His cries for help went unnoticed as he attempted to apply pressure to the gaping wound in his side. Blood spilled through his fingers and pooled around him. The excruciating pain surging though his body was soon replaced with a sense of calmness and peace. Everything faded black.......
