“They’ll be fine,” Axel said as he rose to his feet before helping Hadley up. “After they’re thawed out, they’ll be as good as new.”
“Look at them,” Stetson said in amazement as he walked over to another block of ice with Thorn’s Kodiak bear frozen inside. “It’s like Pompeii, the shifter version.”
“It’s kind of peaceful,” Alexander said as he stared at an ice block that had his loud-mouthed brother Julius inside. The grizzly bear had its mouth wide open. “Can we leave them like this?”
“The longer we wait,” Axel said with a grin, “the more pissed off they’ll be. Trust me.”
Alexander laughed. “I can deal with that.”
Axel glanced down at the blue dragon that was still lying lifeless under the truck. If that dragon hadn’t come, then Hadley would have left on the plane and they would never have connected in the way that they did. He couldn’t help but feel a bit of gratitude toward it, but more than anything, he was glad that it was dead.

Hadley
“Have you ever seen this much ice in July before?” one of the shifters asked as he looked around at the ice-covered ranch.
“I have,” Julius answered with a nod. “Three years ago. Epic Margarita night.”
Hadley laughed as Julius flashed her a grin. It was early morning now with the sun halfway up in the sky. They had spent a long, long, really fucking long night making fires, breaking ice, and melting the frozen shifters from their icy prisons.
It had been a lot of exhausting and grueling work, but Hadley had to admit that she also had a lot of fun. She loved watching the boys joke around, throwing insults as well as snowballs and teasing each other as they slowly broke each other free from the ice.
Julius had put a bra on Jax’s frozen lion as he thawed, and Axel kept his beer cold by placing it Slate’s open mouth.
Hadley helped for a bit, but everyone (especially Axel) kept telling her to sit down and relax. “You’re preggers,” Royal said, shaking his head as she threw a log on the fire that was thawing Hannibal out. “Sit back. Relax.”

But with all of that going on, her eye was still constantly drawn to Axel. Her heart swelled in her chest as she watched him work and talk with the guys. He was so sexy and perfect. How could she not see it before?

“Fine,” Slate said with a roll of his eyes. “It’s a bit too big for my cabin anyway and it will probably give Layla nightmares.”
Hadley watched in astonishment as the group of shifters all grabbed a hold of the fire truck and lifted it off the dragon. These guys were incredibly strong.
It suddenly dawned on her that the child growing inside of her stomach may be one of them. The second she could grab Axel, she did. “Is our child… going to be a shifter?” she asked after she pulled him aside.
He looked a little worried. “Would that bother you?”
She immediately shook her head. “Not at all.” If her kid was as brave and strong as these shifters had been, she would be honored for her child to be one of them.
“It’s possible,” he said, smiling in relief.
“Possible?” she repeated, raising an eyebrow.
“Most likely,” he said. “But it’s going to be okay.”

It took another hour or so for the boys to dig a large enough hole in the field and pull the dragon into it. They all helped bury it, and when the job was finished, there was a new hill on the side of the field.
“Subtle,” Julius said with a laugh. “That’s not noticeable at all.”
Hannibal shrugged. “The kids will enjoy sliding down it in the winter.”
Hadley stared at them in shock. They definitely did things differently here in Colwood, Montana. And she couldn’t wait to be a part of it.
They said goodbye and she climbed into the truck with Jax, Zane, and Axel. “Tell Draven to keep his family squabbles out of Colwood,” Thorn said as Zane started the truck. “I’ve seen enough dragons for one lifetime.”
“I think we all have,” Zane said with a nod.
Hadley was in the back with Axel and she waved to her new friends as they drove back home to the firehouse.
“Welcome to Colwood,” Jax said as he looked back with a grin. “The real Colwood.”
“You’re one of us now, Hadley,” Zane said, turning to her with a smile. “You’re going to fit in just fine.”
Her insides flooded with warmth. “Thanks,” she answered. “I think I’m going to like it here.”
She lowered her head onto Axel’s lap and looked up at his handsome face, unable to contain her smile.

“And you’ll call Thorn if you need some back-up?” Axel asked nervously.
Jax rolled his eyes. “Will you just go already? You’re going to miss your plane. There’s nothing that’s going to come at me that I can’t handle.”
“But if—”
He huffed out a frustrated breath. “Fine! If I can’t handle it, I’ll call the freaking Clawed Squad for back-up, okay?”
Axel lunged forward and wrapped his arms around him in a hug. “Thanks, Jax. I love you, man.”
“Get off of me!” Jax snapped as he pushed him off, shaking his head as he muttered something to himself. Axel wasn’t offended in the least. He knew that the grumpy lion shifter had a hard time showing his feelings. It was just his way.
“Have fun,” Jax said, slapping his shoulder. “You two look great together.”
Axel beamed. That was as close to an I love you as Jax would ever give.
“I’ll be home in a few days,” Axel said as he rushed over to the truck where his beautiful mate was waiting. “And Zane will get home before me.”’
“Don’t worry about me,” Jax said as Axel opened the door for Hadley. “Worry about your new mother-in-law!”
They got in the car and joked around as they drove to the airport, excited to get on their flight.
“So, do you think your parents are going to like me?” Axel asked with a smile as he parked the car at the airport. He wasn’t really worried. The parents of his previous girlfriends always loved him. He was great with them.
She wrapped her arm around his and smiled up at him. “If they like you even a small fraction of the amount that I like you, then you have nothing to worry about.”
He smiled as he leaned down and kissed her soft lips, wondering how he got so lucky.
“Well, I’m excited to meet my child’s grandparents,” he said, sliding his hand over her stomach. She rested her hand on his and smiled warmly. He was already loving his little family. “And I’m even more excited to
meet my child.”
“That makes two of us,” Hadley said, looking thrilled.
Axel could have stayed like that—with their hands on her pregnant belly—forever, but they had a plane to catch and family to meet.
