“Someone shot her.” Quin said and turned to look around the room and make sure everyone was safe. The shifters in the room could be shot and live, but the humans could not. He stood and ordered the Enforcers to get the cars and get them out of there.
Lacy and her mother and father were hustled to the SUV. They were driving down the road before she knew it, seated between her parents. Her mates said they would meet her at the Pack house. She turned and watched the rest of the people from the house get into cars.
She listened to the radio as the Enforcers arranged for the house to be cleaned up and the women to be taken to the Milliken Jail. They would question them more there.
They had to find out who this Master was.
Chapter 18
Stupid bitch, he thought and laid the gun back down on the roof of the house he had climbed onto. He was actually going to have to hide here until everyone left. Him, the Master, resulting to hiding on the roof of a house.
It was all that bitch"s fault. She thought she could handle anyone. He told her that Lacy"s father had regained his powers, but she refused to believe him saying that unbinding a person powers would drive the witch mad.
He arrived just in time to silence her before she gave too much away. At least the other women had never seen him. He made sure to deal with only Sabrina. When he arrived back in Colorado and Oliver called and ordered him to Loveland, he had panicked a little. He couldn"t be in the same room as Lacy and her parents. They had felt his power; they would know who he was. Giving his supposed Alpha an excuse, he drove instead to the farm house where he was too late.
They had brought down the spell and attacked his men. It sucked. He was going to have to regroup yet again. For years, he stayed in the shadows and worked his plan. For years, he had kissed the old man"s ass, so he would know exactly what was going on.
Now, it was within his reach and someone was stopping him.
He would get Lacy back, but first he would find his other mate. She would not be that much of a problem. It was actually finding her that would be hard. She had no magical powers at all. It was hard to track a human unless you had their scent, then you had to find their city. It was a long process. Thank goodness he had her baby blanket. At least he had that much going for him.
He would find her and then use her to get to Lacy. She would not be able to resist helping someone who was in pain. He had the perfect plan. She was the overseer of mates after all, she would not be able to resist coming to someone"s aid. Then she would see the bears fooled her. He was her mate. He was meant for her, not those mangy bears.
Instead of claiming his rightful place at the head of the New Council and his mates, he was stuck on this damn roof until everyone left. Then he could sneak away. Oliver was sure to notice that he was nowhere to be found. Maybe he would have to stop by the other farm house the Rogues controlled and have one of his wolves hit him a few times.
He needed to look like he had been involved in some part of the battle. Somewhere that Oliver had not been.
Planning what he was going to do, the Master lay on his stomach watching over the roof to make sure that no one knew he was around. They would pay for this indignation, Quin and the rest of the supposed Chosen.
Epilogue
Lacy was forced to stay in bed for a week. She had been so bored that when Cami and the rest of the females visited, she had begged them to stay. It was so unusual for her.
She liked a quiet life. At least in the past she had liked her solitude. Now she looked forward to her new life.
When she had arrived at the Pack house the day she was injured, she had been surprised at the size of the place. Her mates never left her side. They stayed with her and helped clean her up while she received thirty two stitches on various cuts on her body. Her mother had received eighteen.
Her new mother-in-law had busted into the room and began to demand an update on her condition. Lacy had been surprised that the doctor had responded. But after sitting and listening to her mother-in-law for a few minutes, she was not so surprised. She scared the hell out of her. And she got along with her parents extremely well. In fact, her new father-in-law and her father were also new best friends.
Their mother had become so excited when she found out she was going to be a grandparent. Blaine had snickered and said it took the pressure off him for a while.
Kira has smiled secretively and nodded. Lacy knew they were going to announce soon that she was also pregnant.
Shawn and Sevi had been a little pissed when their father announced the twin"s old house was going to be Adele and Timothy"s new house. Since they were part of the New Council, they were given a piece of land in the compound and expected to build there.
They had already begun. That was where they were right now. Shawn insisted on supervising the building of their new home, saying that he was going to make sure she had her wraparound porch. And Sevi was busy at the store ordering furnishings for their place. They wanted it to be done as soon as possible.
Lacy had been introduced to the whole Council and found that she liked all of them. She also shared with all the women that they were true mates and each had a strong bond.
Her days were spent trying to figure out what her place was going to be on the Council and what they expected of her.
Cami refused to allow her to work at all, claiming that she needed to be pampered after her ordeal. What she really wanted was to quiz her about witches. Jo explained to her that all magical things fascinated their little Alpha. She was obsessed with meeting each of the different kinds of shifters and magical beings. Jo laughed and came to visit her when Dalton"s parents came to visit. She said that Cami trapped them in the meeting room and was asking them endless questions.
She went over and over the day of the fight in her mind all the time. There was something she was missing; she just couldn"t put her finger on it. Shawn and Sevi had talked with her extensively about what happened when they attacked the farm house.
Both of them had not gotten a scratch on them.
Cloe poked her head in the door and smiled. “Well, ready to blow this popcorn stand?”
“Finally.” Lacy said and stood up. She was fully clothed already and Cloe laughed at her.
“Not anxious or anything.” She said.
“Hell, yes. This is my first Council meeting. I want to make a good impression.” Lacy said.
“Don"t worry. You have already passed the Cami test, from here on out, its downhill.” Cloe said and threw her arm around her shoulder and walked out of the room.
Her mates stood at the bottom of the stairs and waited for her. They were not thrilled about being part of the New Council, liking to remain in the background, but they said they were going to make the best of the situation. They had already prepared a prank to play on their neat, freak brother. He had come into her room to be introduced and proceeded to clean the place up. She had laughed but the brothers had been offended.
They could take care of their mate.
She got to the last stair and then tripped. Sevi and Shawn both reached out and caught her and laughed. “Bubble wrap.” They said in unison.
Lacy took each of her mate"s arms and walked into the conference room. There was a large table, which was only about half full waiting for them. They took their seats in the middle of one side and smiled at the people around them.
“Welcome Lacy, Sevi and Shawn. Sorry we don"t have time to throw a party, but we have a few things we need to discuss.” Quin said and then looked around the table. “We have found half of the members of the New Council. It is time to step it up and find the rest. Sid has something he would like to share with all of us.” Lacy looked at the handsome man sitting across from her and watched as his mates both encouraged him to stand up. Their bond was strong but she could tell that something had strained it recently. But all was forgiven; she could see the love coming from each of them.
“I don"t quite know where to start. You know my brothers. My parents sent m
e a letter a few weeks ago. We were all shocked by the news my mother told us. I waited until I could talk to my brothers and parents before talking to you. I"m sorry I waited for so long, but I needed to be sure about what they were saying, I didn"t believe it at first. I have a younger sister. She was adopted. I knew that but we never really talked about it because she was just Jordan, your pain in the ass sister. She is human, you see. My mother had all boys and wanted a girl. So when my father found a baby abandoned at his construction site one morning, he brought her home. They didn"t know anything, but a letter that was attached to her blanket explained that she was special and needed protection. More than a normal human family could give her. So my parents took her in and never looked back. Jordan has been having a few weird things happen lately and my parents finally put two and two together.”
Stay tuned for Jordan"s story next!
