MOB RULES (James Harris Book 2) Page 23

by Richard Nesbitt

Tony held up a hand and motioned for each man to take a different side of the door. He then reached up and slid the steel bolt lock down out of the top of the frame. With his foot he reached over and slid the bottom bolt up from the floor.

Tony paused and looked to both of his men. They both gripped their guns tightly and prepared themselves.

Scalaro then twisted the dead bolt slowly until it unlocked with a loud click.

Both of Tony’s men looked on anxiously as he grabbed the door handle.

Tony twisted the knob and pulled the door open.

What he saw caused the underboss to jump back slightly. It was a sight that he hadn’t expected. He stared down in disbelief for just a moment and then a large smile consumed his face. The cigar, still jutting from between his teeth, shook as Tony began to chuckle. His men looked down and when they saw what their boss was looking at, turned to each other, confusion plastered on their faces.

Vincent Giovanni, street named Skinny Vinny, lay in the alley just outside the door. His legs were bound with thick rope. His hands were also tied behind his back. He had a cloth stuck in his mouth and a gag tied tightly, holding it in place. Tucked into his waistband was a manila folder, thick with paperwork.

As he looked up into Tony’s face, his eyes wide and terror-filled, Vinny tried to scream but through the gag all that came out was a muffled cry. He strained against the ropes to no avail.

Tony’s laughter subsided although he still wore a huge smile. He grabbed the cigar from between his teeth, and with two fingers, flicked it out into the alley where it exploded in a brilliant shower of red sparks. He nodded his head slowly and locked eyes with the man.

  “Hello, rat.”
