They all try to money grab as hard as they could with effort reaching bare minimum. "That's why I prefer indie devs… But sooner than later, they eventually get blinded by greed and would follow the same pattern as the "big-shots"." Jin Feng muttered inwardly as he reminisced his past experience that was similar to what was happening right now.
"Fine— " Jin Feng reluctantly accepted the vague explanation. He did not bother questioning the part about this little critter being a "goddess", as it was something typical for the open-minded Jin Feng who liked fantasy plots in games. He would be weirded out if it were something else entirely that gave him the system. Best he could accept would be some gift from a Demon Lord or a Calamity, anything past that is beyond his imagination.
"... Now, how about proper guides for the game? Of course, the tutorial part did help but there are things that aren't covered with your five-part tutorial you know? For starters, what is up with the seed where you were sleeping on? Why did it have to consume the plant life around?"
"Did a notification not appear when— " Yue Ling's reply was immediately interrupted by Jin Feng.
"Notification for a permanent quest. Not really a guide…" At this point, Jin Feng had a premonition that he has to understand and do things on his own from now on. It would seem that this Yue Ling is similarly clueless to that of her creation.
"... You know what, nevermind. It doesn't matter. You could go back to sleep now."
Jin Feng calmly spoke as he immediately walked towards the cavern, not minding Yue Ling any further. Yes, he has encountered certain things that he did not understand, but by the end of the day, he still managed to complete things not just by guessing but by understanding through his experience, "It shouldn't be that hard," Jin Feng encouraged himself. Returning back to the cavern to consume the Soul Fruits for the Summons is his first priority.
Although it would seem that the Summons was somehow invincible against the Arachnoids last night, he could not be complacent. It was his first encounter with other creatures other than the Summons and he could not entirely gauge the standard power level within the world just by that one fight alone. Having the Summons scale in power is some sort of a safety net to guarantee his own safety.
"Hey! Why are you ignoring me!"
"Eh? She's still here?" Jin Feng heard a voice behind him while he was walking back to the cavern. The familiar high-pitched voice immediately irritated the pondering Jin Feng.
"Ignoring you? Do I have to pay attention to you? I am going back to the cavern. You could go back and sleep on that leaf or whatever. I'll get back to that farm when I would be doing the quest." Jin Feng talked in a straightforward manner. Not a stutter could be heard in his words, "As for now, please don't bother me, or those on the village. I'll get back to them later on as to explain what happened to their crop fields…"
Even though Jin Feng could not really communicate with the Gnomes, he at least has to try and give an explanation of some sort as to what happened to their fields. "I just hope they would understand." Jin Feng thought. The value of the seed, minus the annoying fox, is somehow high, as it technically grows Gacha Gems which could then be used by Jin Feng to purchase the advance scrolls.
"For a single quest, the seed is way too "fancy"." Jin Feng thought.
CHAPTER 19
DEPLOY SOME
The cavern walls became still as the vines stopped growing. They halted as soon as it covered the entirety of the outsides of the cave.
Amazingly, none of the Gaiwus have awoken from the falling debris. Only when Jin Feng returned did they react and have risen.
11 Summons immediately rushed in front of Jin Feng without him uttering a single word. They all knelt in one with reverence to him. "Wait… 11?" Jin Feng recounted them once more. Indeed, the Gnome Warrior was there already when he arrived.
"Good, I could at least explain to him about what happened to their fields." Jin Feng muttered to himself, but he was definitely bothered by how he was going to.
He could not speak any of these creatures language, and nor does he understand what they were saying. After waving his hand to signal them to rise, Jin Feng walked towards the Gnome Warrior.
"Uhmm, I do not know if you could understand what I am saying but… your village crop fields is temporarily being occupied by— tsk I don't think he understands a thing…" Jin Feng pursed his lips. He could clearly see the blank expression on the Gnome warrior's face.
He clearly did not understand.
"Hah. What are you trying to do? Hahaha, this is so funny! Talking to these lowly creatures! Ah! My stomach hurts, hahaha." A mocking voice resounded behind Jin Feng.
"You followed me huh? Is your talk not done yet?" Jin Feng calmly asked. He wasn't the least bit bothered by this cat-like fox's mockery.
"Tsk! You're acting to cold, mortal. It's really funny, but it seems that you aren't the type that jokes around… Hmph, fine." Yue Ling humphed and turned his head. Oddly, her fox body suddenly stood in two feet. Bipedally walking towards Jin Feng. "Consider this as some sort of gift for not having to give you that "F.A.Q." you were asking for."
The tiny black paws of Yue Ling made contact with Jin Feng's forehead.
In an instant, a blinding light covered Jin Feng's figure. It was utterly similar to the light that enveloped him back then during his dream. The familiar sensation of the numbing pain once again could be felt in his eyes.
It took only a few breaths before the bright light dissipated and then disappeared entirely. "So, how does it feel? Go on, try asking that gnome once more." Yue Ling waved his tiny little paws, instructing Jin Feng to turn around and try talking to the Gaiwus once more.
"A gift of speech? Huh…" Jin Feng muttered. Within his head, he could feel a heavy pressure occupying a part of his consciousness. "Wait, is it the speech of all types of Gaiwus?! Damn, no wonder it feels… heavy." Jin Feng bonked his head a few times to remove the numbing sensation that was left.
*Cough!*
Jin Feng cleared his throat and once again talked to the Gnome Warrior.
…
"The Emperor instruction is to scout out potential Gaiwus that are useful. If we are to encounter creatures that are above our league, then our priority is to escape, alive." Yu Kunchong, the leader for the expedition within the An Forest, reminded the troops that were left with him about their task.
They were getting deeper into the forest, and as such— A reminder is something that is due. Panic is inevitable to those that are not aware. As much as possible, Yu Kunchong wants everyone to return alive.
Injuries are inevitable nonetheless, as they are obviously courting it by catching these creatures within their habitat. "... I am just hoping that we don't run against those that killed the Arachnoids." Yu Kunchong thought. A grave expression was apparent in his face.
…
"Why is my father not with you?!" Yu Ming could not hold the panic within his heart and immediately spoke first before the emperor could. An intense glare was immediately directed towards her from the sibling of the emperor.
Jing Manchu majestically raised his arm, signaling Yu Ming to stop. Yu Ming immediately stepped back, but her big and round insect eyes were starting to well up, on the brink of shedding tears. The soldiers that arrived were stuttering as well, unsure how to react.
"Your Imperial Highness, we are the returning force from the expedition you sent towards the deeper parts of the An Forest. We have an important discovery that our commander, Yu Kunchong, wants to relay towards you." One of the Locust-men spoke after calming down. He then relayed their discovery.
"A strong Gaiwu enough to trample Arachnoids…" Jin Manchu cupped his chin as he pondered. Aside from the news of it being a powerful Gaiwu, the reports also indicated that they, the Locust-men, weren't really that deep into the forest when they encountered the carcasses of the Arachnoids.
Jing Manchu paced back in forth within the room adjacent to the balcony. The people around him had a gaze of wonder. "Are th
e Gaiwus roaming freely now? Do they not have a boundary to keep as to how far they could venture into the forest? I am sure about it… I read it somewhere…"
As a "genius" who read a lot about the knowledge from other races, Jing Manchu could vaguely remember things related to the "territorial limit" of different Gaiwus. He learned back then that the stronger the Gaiwu, the limited they were to venture out the forest. According to the records, "mysterious forces" are at work to keep these destructive creatures from trampling the races within Nhervyne.
"Did something change?... Change?" Looking down the courtyard once more, Jing Manchu could sense a foreboding danger within his heart. Tier 2 Gaiwus are present within his domain, something that defies the laws of nature… Was it his fault that these things are venturing outside their territories now?
"Hmph… I couldn't care less if it were the case. As long as I can wage war against the others and expand my territory, I'll have enough strength to repel even the most rebellious Gaiwu the An Forest could offer." Jing Manchu reaffirmed his twisted decision. He was pretty much convinced that it should not bother him the least bit.
Turning around towards the people that were from the expedition, Jing Manchu instructed,
"Go back to the An Forest and assist the others. Do not worry about your safety. Bring some of the Gaiwus we have to assist you. Catch a much stronger Gaiwu. If possible, bring the one responsible for killing those Arachnoids." Turning his gaze towards Yu Ming, Jing Manchu added, "Get the mages to allow them to use the Dark Stallions that are already pacified."
"We have a Gaiwu to catch..."
