by KIKI MALONE
At the same time, Oliver’s birth records were corrected and I’m now legally his father. Without knowing, I was always his biological father, but now he’ll share my last name, too.
We have a celebration planned for today with our friends and family to finally welcome our children home and to celebrate us all legally being a family.
With everything that transpired in the last year, we need this for all of us.
Mikael still hasn’t forgiven himself for losing my girls though we’ve tried so many times to convince him it was never his fault in the first place. He’s been having a very rough time with things and I need my best friend back as the carefree man I’ve always known him to be.
Angela will also be here with her parents and her son, Alfie. Alfie is an amazing child with a talent that I can’t wait to see mature. Angie has been here all the time, helping Elizabeth with our children. Angie’s parents have been the best grandparents we could ask for.
I started this journey, holding on to hope that one day I’d have everything I’ve ever dreamed of, and with hope and patience, I have more than I ever expected.
My family may not be perfect, but it’s the perfect family for me. I never plan to ever let them go, I’ll always be holding on.
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
First and foremost, to my family for believing in me, for staying by my side, for helping me through when I was struggling, thank you. I couldn't have done this without you.
Felicia, you pushed me to follow my dream. You encouraged, yeah I use encourage loosely, more like threatened, me to finish this book and make it all a reality. Really, I don't know how people make it through life without you in it. I am a better person because of you.
Harper, I know it’s difficult time right now, but you were the person who inspired me to do this. Your love, strength and perseverance is what made Carter become a stronger man. Keep rocking, woman, you’ve got this.
Melissa, thank you for basically dropping everything you were doing and working to help me make this all work. You flipping rock and I can't wait for you to get your groove back.
Michelle, thank you for being a voice I didn't know I needed. You knew how to make things better when I thought they were just okay.
Maggie, my editor, sorry for making you want to change your name. But it was worth it!
Andrew, Heather, and Samantha, thank you for keeping me liquored up through some difficult writing scenes. And for keeping my corner of the bar empty on Friday nights so I can continue to rock out the words.
My pre-readers, you ladies all rock! Your excitement and encouragement kept me stronger. Sorry you had to wait so long for the last few chapters…. nah, I’m not.
An epic thanks goes out to my son for putting up with my shit. I know I spent many a cranky day trying to work out this plot and without you, I couldn't have done it. You are my world and I couldn't be the person I am without you!
