The Beta's Mate Page 30

“Thanks honey. You really are the best boyfriend a girl could ever ask for.” I told him as I reached up for a kiss.

When we returned home, Charlie made a beeline for Steve pulling him aside and I headed upstairs for a much-needed shower. When I was finished, Charlie came into the room. “We’re having a meeting after my shower.” He grumbled on his way to the bathroom. I quickly got dressed and brushed my hair while I waited for him.

I finished my shower, got out and dried off. As I walked into the bedroom, I noticed Anna was sitting in a chair looking anxious. “I will do my best not to put you in the middle of this my love.” I whispered to her as I got dressed. When I was ready, I took her hand and led her downstairs and out to the patio where the rest of the pack had gathered.

Steve stood up and began the meeting as always. “I called this meeting because many of you seem restless with the idea that Charlie is moving into his own house. Now I know he’s been talking about wanting to do this for over 4 years now, and has finally decided to do it.” Steve explained. “He has assured me that the house will be close, for most of us have learned in the past how ineffective a pack can function when it is spread out too far.”

“It’s on the other side of the woods. Just go South. Paul’s seen the plot of land I was looking at back in January. It took me two months to negotiate a reasonable price for it.” I added. “It’s not like I’m moving to another state.”

“I want to make it clear that even though he is moving to his own house that Charlie will remain as our Beta.” Steve was adamant in this declaration. “We need to respect his decision to move. He will be active in all pack needs when we need him as always. As will Anna for the time being until she is unable to participate.”

“What the hell is that supposed to mean?” Anna snapped.

“Well, since you two are going to be getting married. It is only a matter of time until you're pregnant and unable to fight for the safety of your unborn child.” Steve answered.

“Yeah, I’m not having children any time soon. You moron’s would know that fact if you took a minute to actually fucking talk to me.” Anna spat at Steve. “Don’t think I haven’t noticed how everyone seems to be treating me since Charlie announced that we were building our own house. I’m glad to be fucking moving away from you fake assholes.” She stood up and went into the house.

Once she was out of sight everyone looked at me. “Anna feels like you all have been ignoring her. She’s feeling left out a lot lately.” I commented. “It’s upsetting her a great deal. Even last night no one asked her to join you all in the movie, but when I got home you all invited me. Ever stop to think I would have joined if my mate wasn’t sitting outside crying to herself, pretending to read a book?”

“Charlie, we aren’t meaning to.” Robbie began.

“But you did, because for some fucked up reason you all think I’m moving because of her. I’ve been planning on getting my own place for years now. This pack is an awesome pack, but we’re all young and have our own drama. I can’t deal with it anymore.” I stopped Robbie from making excuses. “She’s going to be my wife, no matter what I’m going to marry her. In case none of you have noticed, we’ve been engaged for months now.” Everyone looked surprised and shocked at the same time. “The shock on your faces goes to show how much time you have all spent with Anna over the past couple of months. Debbie, you're supposed to be her best friend and yet, you forgot she was here yesterday too.”

I went into the house and went up to our room. I found Anna already in bed resting peacefully. I pulled my clothes off and climbed into bed next to her. I gently pulled her to me and fell asleep myself.

September has arrived too soon, but the house was finished. We have chosen our furniture and it will be delivered by the end of the week. Charlie and I have slowly begun to pack up our belongings in preparation for our official move. The plan is to be in our house officially by Friday. I’m so excited to have a house of my own.

Charlie did an amazing job ensuring that the house includes everything I wanted. Complete with an in-ground pool to help with the heat waves we tend to get out here. My mom has asked to come see the house when it is finished, but I’m still hesitant about it. She’s trying, but the damage done to me is extensive.

When I got the call that the furniture had arrived today, I rushed over in my newly purchased car. I chose a white Nissan Altima for comfort and style, plus they tend to last forever. When I pulled into my driveway, a large furniture truck was parked outside. I got out and went over to the driver. “I’m sorry, I thought the delivery wasn’t coming until tomorrow.” I explained to the driver.

“No problem. The items came in and we figured it would be good to get it out here since when you placed the order you said you’d like it delivered as soon as possible.” The driver replied getting out of the truck. He went to the back of the truck and opened the door. His passenger came around and together they began unloading the sectional. “Just tell us where everything goes and we’ll set it up for you.”

“Great. That goes on the first floor here to your right of the kitchen.” I instructed as I quickly opened the door and headed inside. I led them down the hall and pointed to the spot I wanted the couch to be placed.

We continued with the dining room table and chairs, and the bench to the mudroom. Next came our king size bed set and end tables. Our chest of draws, my vanity table, and bureau. We got a full-size mattress for the guest room with a complete bedroom set. Then for the home office we got a desk and office chair, along with book shelves. Finally, they brought in the coffee table for the living room before heading out.

Once they were gone, I sat down on the sectional with a huge excited smile on my face. Now, all I need to do is bring our boxes here, and tonight we can spend our first official night in our new home. I quickly locked up the house and returned to the pack house. Apparently, everyone was outside as usual, which made gathering our belongings easier for me. Though it would be nice to have a couple extra pairs of hands to make less trips, but the exercise is nice.

When I was finished, I let out a sigh as I got into my car and drove back to our new house. I texted Charlie telling him the exciting news. I found myself unpacking our belongings in our room when my front door opened and closed. I rushed out of my room to see who had come in.

“Did you think you’d slip out without me noticing.” Debbie huffed with her hand on her hip. “I know we haven’t been doing things like we planned, but I have been trying Anne. You are my best friend, not to mention my parents are flying down next week to see this place.”

“Charlie’s not going back to the pack house while there here. He’ll be working on the farm still, but I’m not sending him away. He’s the only person I have that understands what I’m going through right now.” I commented. “I’m sorry if your parents have a problem with that, but this is his house too.”

“We’ll figure it out as we go. Besides, they will be staying in a motel in town so I can stay with Steve at night.” She replied.

“Can you give me an official tour of your new home?” She asked excitedly.

“Sure.” I muttered walking down the stairs. I walked her through the house reluctantly.

“This looks amazing Anne. I’m so jealous right now.” She cooed. “Who came up with the designs?”

“I did. Charlie told me to plan the house to look however I wanted, then he made the blueprints. It came out better than I imagined it would.” I explained.

“We need to throw a housewarming party.” Debbie announced.

“We will next month, after we’re completely settled in here.” I was stressed. “Charlie and I have already discussed it. Aunt Carol and Billy will fly in for it and everything.”

“Oh, I just thought it’d be fun.”

“It will be, just not right now. We want to enjoy our time before w
e host a party.” I replied. “We build a house to enjoy each other’s company without the content interruptions and input from the rest of the pack.”

“In other words, so you could fuck when and where ever you want.” Debbie teased.

“Yes, that is part of it.” I huffed.

When I finished mucking out the stalls, my phone dinged. It was a message from Anna. ‘The furniture has arrived, and we can officially spend the night in our new home.’

She’s so excited about this and I am to truth be told. I wanted to reply back, but didn’t know what to say. As I laid the fresh hay in the horse paddocks, I thought of a reply to express my own excitement to her. ‘I will see you at HOME then. I love you baby.’

We keep calling our new house our forever home, so hopefully she realizes what I mean. As I wash up from the horse stalls my phone begins to ring. I chuckled as I pulled out my phone, was my answer not sufficient enough? I glanced at the caller I.D. and answered. “Hey Steve what’s up?”

“Debbie’s upset that Anna just left without saying goodbye to her for the second time today. What’s going on?” Steve sounded annoyed.

“She had to go meet the furniture delivery people at our house. Knowing Anna, she probably went back to the pack house to gather our boxes. She’s really excited for this move, it’s made her happier.” I answered.

“She’s been isolating herself from the pack the past two weeks. Everyone is talking and voicing concerns about her true intentions of you two moving.”

“She’s a fairy Steve. Fairies aren’t pack creatures. The pack dynamic is tough for you and I to handle and we are pack creatures. We all know when everyone’s having sex in that house at all hours of the day. We know everyone’s business all the time, there is no privacy with the pack. In order for a relationship to grow and be healthy we need some alone time. She’s miserable because she can’t keep up with the drama of the pack. Ever since she became mated Sophie has been all about Robbie, and Debbie is all about you. Anna isn’t obsessed with me like that.” I explained. “She was, but then stopped when I started working again. I just want us to be good, I’m sorry the pack feels like she is separating us, but I need to be with my mate. If having a house of our own makes her happy, then that’s what she gets. I’ll be close when needed, and I can make time on day during the weekend to come hang out with the pack, but I need two weeks alone with Anna. That’s all I’m asking.”

“I will pass it along. As long as you don’t leave the pack. You know we need you, and I value you as a member and a friend.” Steve replied.

“I’m not leaving. She is adamant that I’m needed in the pack. Getting our own place was 100% my idea. I worked hard to get her excited about the idea. I want us to make it a home, now that the house is done, we’re going to begin discussing our wedding. After the wedding, she’ll finish college, then we’ll talk babies. I’m telling you man, she’s my future.”

“I can’t wait for that big day.” Steve replied. “That kid Billy keeps calling Debbie, are we good about him coming for a month trial period?”

“I think so. I mean worse that could happen is he’d get killed for being stupid, but something tells me he’s not as stupid as he acts.” I remarked. “Listen, I have a few more things to finish up in order to be done for the day, so I’ll talk to you later.”

“All right man. Take it easy and enjoy that new house. I can’t wait to come see it, but I promise I’ll wait for the invite. Though my mate may have just invited herself over since she’s disappeared.” He commented. I hung up the phone and rolled my eyes.

When I was finished with work, I politely excused myself from joining Bo and Pam for dinner. I know Anna is cooking up a storm tonight. I drove home, anxious to see my mate and spend our first official night in our new home together. I pulled into the driveway next to her car and got out. I entered the house, paused to remove my dirty sneakers. And headed inside.

“Hey baby, I’m home.” I called.

“I’m in the kitchen.” She replied.

“I’m going to grab a quick shower then come see you.” I announced as I climbed the stairs. I entered the room and noted that she had indeed brought everything from the pack house and even began to unpack it. I stripped, tossed my dirty clothes in the hamper, then made my way to the bathroom. Once I finished with my shower, I pulled on a pair of shorts, then made my way back downstairs to the kitchen. In the kitchen, I pulled her into a hug and a kiss. “God, I love calling that out.” I chuckled. “And you look radiant.”

“I feel amazing. It’s like we’re finally starting a new chapter in our lives.” She sighed. “I think we’ll do our house warming party next month. Then we can begin planning our wedding.”

“I like the sound of that my love.” I replied.

Who would have thought that being forced to move out here with my mom would set in motion my destiny? I have the man of my dreams, my dream house, and a future planned out. We’re going to get married, I’m going to complete college and maybe start a career, and then we will have a couple babies. I guess in a way my dad really did know this was going to be what was best for me. My friends are moving out here to be close by, I’m building a relationship with my mom, and my aunt flies out twice a year to visit. She promises that when it’s time for her to retire, she’ll move out here to be close to me and my future children.
