As we made our way down the slope to the bunker I tried to guess what Eve had in mind but in the unique situation, I had no idea. Esme opted to ask rather than guess, ‘What do you want baby? You were both there for me when you got back so I think it’s your turn. Elbowing me gently in the side she added, ‘Brad will be happy either way as he’s got a sex goddess and her protégé to play with.’
Eve was a step in front of us and didn’t look around, ‘If you guys are fully on board, follow me.’
Eve took us to the supply room with the clothing and associated gear in and made me watch while she ordered Esme to slowly undress her, then dress her in a camo uniform without a bra. Seeing the tight khaki t-shirt hugging her untethered breasts made me shiver and stand to attention. Then she made Esme undress herself and then undress me while she walked around us looking critical. Esme took some liberties whilst she undressed me and Eve encouraged her with comments like, ‘That’s it soldier, close and thorough, check everything’s in its proper place.’
Then we moved to the bunkroom and although it was basic, and the mattresses were thin and covered in black plastic, she made us pull three bunks together, tie them so they wouldn’t move, then stack up the mattresses and tie them as well. We used lots of sheets and the end effect was actually quite pleasing. It ended up almost as big as a king-size and the empty top bunks gave it the look of four-poster, except there were six.
Eve went with an apt scenario of the necessity for post-apocalyptic sex instruction to re-populate the earth. She went through sensual seduction and whenever Esme or I weren’t up to standard she replaced one of us to show us the proper technique. After she made me squeeze and suck Esme’s delightful breasts, she made me repeat the process with her so she could check it felt as good as it should. We fucked in every position we had ever used and it was torture to start and stop so much. Everyone had happy endings and although it wasn’t my favourite scenario, it was fun, and who was I to argue.
When we were all panting on the bed Eve said, ‘Well, that wasn’t quite as good as I’d hoped. I should have gone with my gut and just made you fuck me hard on a pile of rifles with a gun to the back of my head, but we’re going to be here for a few days so there’s always time.’
Surprisingly Esme added, ‘I’d like that too, I’d really fucking like that.’
We re-joined everyone for breakfast and Ben and Izzy looked as tired as I felt. Mandy told us Tim had woken in the early hours screaming, and she’d given him some more Diazepam. She woke him while we were eating and although he was obviously groggy, his eye’s looked calmer. He apologised for being such a mess and we talked more about the base. He told us which hanger the Land Rovers, other vehicles, and maintenance gear would be in.
It wasn’t easy to break into the hanger. It had old fashioned sliding doors with a heavy duty integral lock. Eventually we got Esme to shoot the lock a few times but we still had to pry it open with two people windsurfing off a large crowbar. It was worth the effort though, and I don’t think Bill’s eyes blinked for at least five minutes. All the tools were heavy duty and top of the range, if old, and there were two sets of light portable welding gear. There was also a heavy duty welding unit mounted on the back of a forklift.
There were the two Land Rovers with heavy machine guns, but both were soft tops so only safe to use against hordes at a distance. There was also an awesome looking six wheel drive vehicle Tim called a Stolly. It was armoured and he said it could carry 5 tonnes in the pickup style back, but there was only room for two in the cab. He said they had tried to decommission it, as it required so much maintenance compared to newer vehicles, and it was only then he mentioned he was an engineer. They had only let him keep it because he said he would maintain it in his own time.
Eve sidled up to me as Tim was talking, squeezed my arse, and whispered, ‘Fucking jackpot, an army version of Bill. Serves me right for pre-judging again, you can spank me for it later.’
There were two bulk standard Land Rovers and another medium weight armoured vehicle Tim called a Husky. It only had four wheels, though they were huge, but it sat four and had a small crane mounted on the back. Tim seemed embarrassed that there weren’t more vehicles saying, ‘That’s it I’m afraid, we’re only a small base and it’s all about the planes.’
I don’t think he had any idea how useful they would be, or how useful he would be in keeping them running. Bill and Tony immediately set about organising the welding gear and the rig, and I wasn’t the only one to watch in sadness as they removed the roof frame from Lulu. It was like the first step in dismantling her. We all knew we would lose her eventually, but it was hard to see the first part of her go.
As we had nothing to add in the hangar we decided to carry on the previously planned scouting mission and Tim showed us around the Stolly and Husky. Although the Stolly was definitely the coolest vehicle by far, it still only seated two. We let Ben and Izzy take it and after a heated few rounds of rock paper scissors, I got to drive the Husky. The plan was the same as before, to cruise around the housing area, learn the layout, and see what was what. If we got swarmed we’d bug out and get back to the hangar.
The estate was dull looking but all the houses were big and well maintained. Why there were almost no straight roads and loads of awkward little cul-de-sac’s I have no idea, but I guessed it gave the impression you might not be living in a completely controlled armed forces environment. There were corpses here and there and the occasional car blocking the road, but they were easy to push out of the way with an eight tonne vehicle with enough torque to carry five tonnes and pull ten.
We didn’t see much movement and I began to wonder where two hundred or more Zeds could be hiding. Then we drove by the base’s school and found out. Esme had just pointed and started to shout when I felt my Zed sense go nuts. The schools doors exploded open and a seemingly endless stream of frenzied Zeds swarmed out, some of the more enthusiastic ones opting to break through the front windows instead.
Esme shouted, ‘Drive, Drive’, but I was always best under pressure and a plan arrived in my head as if I’d had hours to think about it.
I moved off but let the Zeds get really close before I did. Ben and Izzy in the Stolly had already pulled ahead of us. Esme said, ‘What are you doing?’
I replied calmly, ‘I’m making sure they keep following us. Radio the others and let them know to set up with the heavy guns and be ready in Lulu and Mary. Tell them to see if Ted’s with us, and if he is, to ask him to make sure they stay frenzied. This might not be what we planned, but all in one place out in the open will do. The moment we get in range of the big guns we’ll floor it, turn around, and finish off what’s left.’
Esme relayed the message and Eve said, ‘That’s gonna be a lot of ammo.’
I knew she didn’t really mind and replied, ‘Yes, but there are millions of Zeds out there gathered into hordes so it’s not like we’re not going to need the grenades. Also the 50 calibre ammo is as useful for this as anything else really, it’s not like we can use it door to door.’
Eve unbuckled her seat belt and said, ‘Slow down as much as you can while we’re still on the road. I’m climbing into the back to have some target practice and so is Esme.’
Esme couldn’t stop herself, ‘I am?’ Then she caught up and said with more confidence, ‘I am.’
The thought of either Eve or Esme falling off the back scared the shit out of me, but the cab had lots of handholds on the outside and with the crane fitted they could brace against it for extra support. When the fear subsided it was replaced by jealousy.
Eve and Esme only just made it into the back before a sharp bend and I heard swearing. I headed for the airfield for a nice straight run up to the hangars and a moment later I heard Eve and Esme start firing, Eve’s short controlled bursts punctuated by louder single shots from Esme. I couldn’t see out of the back at all and had to wait until things showed up in the wing mirrors. It seemed as long as I let the horde almost touch us, they ke
pt coming. Then it all changed. As the frenzy died down the Zeds seemed to realise they were being slaughtered and stopped chasing us.
I stopped the vehicle and to my horror I saw Eve in one of the wing mirrors and heard her taunt the horde. Esme kept shooting and I could just about make out Eve flip up the grenade launcher sight. A moment later there was a big bang and it was frustrating not to be able to see it. Eve disappeared from view and the front part of the horde surged forwards again. For a few seconds I had no idea what to do. Then there were two louds bangs on the back window and Esme’s voice, ‘Drive, drive!’
I stepped on it but what I haven’t described so far is that heavy vehicles are slow as fuck. I saw the horde reach the side of the vehicle and heard the sound of a different kind of gunfire. Esme was still squeezing them off when she could, but Eve must have resorted to her M9’s. I didn’t know if I was glad or not, not being able to see what was happening, but I knew it was hectic. Within a second or two of hitting second I could see us gain distance from the pack again.
Without the direction of the Talker, the part of the pack that had stopped the chase didn’t seem to know what to do. We hadn’t reached the airfield but we were on a relatively open road with a huge hanger open to visitors on one side. I stopped again and wondered what to do next when I saw the two Land Rovers with machine guns heading towards us and heard Tim on the radio, ‘Get clear, do it now.’
I drove towards the Land Rovers, joining Ben and Izzy, and I admit I jumped as one of them opened fire while we were still at least twenty meters in front of them. The other one waited a few more seconds and as I passed between them I could see Tim on one gun and Track on the other. I pulled slowly around on the grass so I didn’t shake Eve and Esme up too much and stopped a few meters behind the two firing guns. They were really loud and I could see both Tim and Track were wearing ear protectors.
Eve joined me in the front but Esme climbed onto the bonnet and started firing again. Eve said, ‘Well that was fun, a little hectic there for a minute, but nothing we couldn’t handle.’
Without skipping a beat she changed the conversation to, ‘I’ll never get tired of looking at her arse and this is the perfect view. The fact we’re surrounded by gunfire is just the cherry on the cake.’
Then she looked around furtively and I looked around too, wondering what she was looking for. A moment later she was fumbling with my trousers, ‘I’ve got to have you or I’m not sure I’ll be able stop myself going out there and pulling Esme’s trousers down.’
I helped her release me and she was on me immediately. I went with the urgency and pushed her head deeper onto me, grabbing a fist full of hair as I did so. I sat back, watched Esme’s arse, and imagined she was naked. Then I closed my eyes and imagined the scene Eve had described. Before I knew it I was saying, ‘Tonight I’m going to bend you over one of those weapon crates and fuck you harder than you’ve ever been fucked before. I’m going to tie your hands behind your back, gag you, and press the barrel of an M9 against the back of your head. Esme’s going to be tied up and bent over the crate right next to you so you can look into her eyes while I fuck you.’
‘Then when I’m finished with you I’m going to make you kneel behind her and lick her while I watch. While your licking her I’m going press the gun into her temple so hard it hurts and tell her that the only way I’m going to stop is if she comes.’
I might have said more but I felt myself coming up quickly. Sensing I was close Eve took over with her hand and looked me in the eye’s, ‘I fucking love you and I can’t fucking wait.’
She looked like she might say more but I came and she leant across to kiss me. When I opened my eyes again Esme was sat on bonnet looking at us through the windscreen. I felt momentarily guilty but she smiled and licked her lips before re-loading her rifle and getting back to the action. I had only just managed to clean up and put myself away when the firing stopped. Before Eve got out of the car she said, ‘What ever plan you come up with, make it quick and efficient, because making me wait for what you described is going to kill me.’
I got out when the firing stopped and Esme stood between us and said, ‘Are you going to fill me in or what?’
Eve answered her, ‘Let’s just say that waiting for tonight is going to be torture and that I’ve never been so close without someone inside me or touching me before. I’m not going to tell you so you can share at least some of the pain, but from what you said earlier you’re going to fucking love it.’
Chapter Twenty – Demolition
Hoping no one would notice I was sweating I climbed onto the bonnet of the Husky and surveyed the scene. It was hard to judge the carnage but there were a lot of dead Zeds and there were quite a few further back on the road as well. The fifty calibres weren’t very accurate, but they ripped through bodies and shattered bone as sure as any grenade.
Eye’s turned to me in expectation of a plan but all I could think about was bending Esme and Eve over the weapon crates. I knew clean-up was first and that bought me some time, ‘First we have to finish off all the crawlers. I know it’s gruesome, but almost every car on the estate is half way decent and although I wouldn’t suggest it with rotting corpses, you get used to it when they’re fresh. Let’s see if we can find any car and house keys.’
Tim looked horrified and I turned to him and said, ‘You did good Tim. Bringing the big guns was a good call. I know you might still recognise some of them and this is a lot to get used to, so no one’s expecting you to join in. We need someone on watch anyway.’
Tim swallowed and nodded and I’m not sure he could have spoken if he tried. Track asked, ‘Should we press our advantage and go after them?’
‘No. They’re spread out but they’ll probably regroup with the Talker at the school. We need to give them some time, but not too long. It’s good to keep the houses viable but we don’t need the school, there are plenty of big buildings to choose from. When we’re done here we’re going to collect rifles for everyone, both mortars, and two of the shoulder mounted anti-tank things. That school is coming down and nothing is getting out alive.’
Eve didn’t hold her voice down and said, ‘Fuck yea, now that’s a plan.’
Everyone grabbed their weapons and headed towards the carnage. I hung back for a moment with Tim who said, ‘They said you were strange and that I’d have to get used to you, I can see why. I had my doubts but you certainly get the job done and they all respect you and follow you. That’s the most important quality of any commander. I would never have thought of levelling the school.’
I looked at him and said, ‘Thanks. I still struggle with everyone looking to me, and we’ve had some losses, but we’re still here and I have no intention of losing anyone while we clear this base. When you know death could come any day, you soon learn to use everything you have to avoid it.’
Then I smiled and thought of my father, ‘My father would regularly use that Gandhi quote on me, “Live like you’re going to die tomorrow, learn like you’re going to live forever”. In an apocalypse I’d say, kill like you might die today, scavenge like you might not.’
We radioed for the others to join us with only Mandy, Tony, Ted and his brother left at the container. When they arrived, Max and Track went with Tim to get what we needed. It didn’t take long to check the bodies and there was a good haul of keys. Most of the brakes would be seized on but with three mechanics we had the resources to fix at least some of them.
When Ted came back with the mortars and rockets he carefully went over how to use them before we headed back towards the school. He would lead the mortar team and although I knew Eve was at least as disappointed as I was, Tim suggested Max and Track used the rockets. He said the heavier and stronger you were the better it would be. The plan was to use the mortar and rockets all at the same time and to continue with the Mortar for a few rounds before dealing with any escapees. The moment we finished with the explosives we’d split up and drive around the school to try and stop any straggler
s escaping. With luck, the base would be clear before supper, but we all knew we’d still have to go house to house before we could relax.
It wasn’t easy to get a clear shot at the school without being right outside it, but the road right outside the school was straight and there was a grassy area just before the line of houses opposite it. The area was far enough away to be safe, but we could only see part of the school from it. It was the best we had so we went with it. The rockets were guided so as long as the guys kept the launchers pointing where they wanted the rockets to hit, they would be ok. The mortar was guess work and Tim had never actually used one. He knew the theory, and although it made complete sense, I was still strangely surprised to find instructions in the box.
We drove up as quietly as we could and set up without being swarmed. Everyone looked at me for the go and for a moment I felt like the president in some film giving the order to launch the nukes. I nodded and the mortar went first, with the guys quick to follow. Esme was spotting with binoculars on the roof of the Husky but we could all see the first mortar shot was long. Moments later the two rockets hit and although it was dramatic, and I felt as well as heard the noise, the school was still standing. The front of the building had collapsed in two places, including the front door, but the holes weren’t as big as I’d imagined they would be.
Tim was quick to adjust the mortar and fire again and this time it was a hit. With all the dust from the rocket hits it was hard to see, but the sound of the mortar round hitting the building was very different from when it went into the playing field behind. Esme waited a moment before shouting, ‘Ten meters longer and a smidgen to the right.’
I’m sure Ted would have preferred more exact instructions, but he was quick to fire again. We fired three more times with adjustments each time before jumping into the vehicles and going to investigate.
