Her body was sore in the best way.
Losing her virginity hadn’t been nearly as traumatizing as she’d been led to believe. Though she was more than glad it’d been Knox who’d taken it. She couldn’t imagine another man being right. Not anymore. In fact, she couldn’t imagine wanting another man…ever.
He strolled to the side of the bed, his cock swinging back and forth, smacking against his legs.
Katherine licked her lips. Curiosity pushing away the last few shudders of worry that he’d taken off again without saying goodbye. She caught his gaze and her grin widened. His eyes sparked with gold flecks and the desire reflected in them didn’t leave anything in a shadow of a doubt.
She studied him for a second. His erection was almost even with the mattress, but not quite. It was lower which would present a problem if she were on her stomach and she couldn’t really get down right now with her ankle all bent out of shape. That would be far from graceful.
“I want to try something. But don’t laugh at me.”
Knox’s chin dipped toward her. “Why would I laugh when my mate gives me a hungry glance? I am hard and ready for anything you want.”
Katherine laughed. “I guess that makes sense.” She pushed herself across the bed, so she lay on her back with her head coming off the side closest to him.
“I must ask, though.” Knox frowned. “What are you doing?”
“Come closer.” Katherine motioned with her hand. He stepped closer and she reached for his cock, wrapping her fingers around the silky-soft but steely-hard shaft.
“Katherine.” Her name came out half-groan-half-breath.
His cock was just as incredible as it’d been last night. But now, up so close…it was so large. How had it fit inside her? How was she ever going to get it inside her mouth. She read about people doing this. Even heard guys mention how enjoyable a blow job was, but she had no clue was she was doing. Hopefully as long as she focused on not biting it would be okay for him.
She slipped her free hand further back between his legs, stroking the underside of the penis and back toward the ball sacks, exploring as much as she could while she had access.
His legs trembled visibly, and he let out a shuddering breath.
Confidence grew inside her like a slowly inflating balloon. She was pleasuring him. Maybe not as skillfully as he played her body last night, but he liked what she was doing. Of that she had no doubt.
She stuck her tongue out and licked across the tip of his penis. A clear liquid was beading there. It had a slightly musky scent, but it didn’t taste bad. It tasted like him. And she liked it. She swiped her tongue around the tip again like it was a lollypop and tugged him just a little closer so she could work on fitting at least a couple inches of him into her mouth.
Katherine licked her lips and guided his cock into her mouth. Then backed him out, licked her lips again and took him even further.
Knox growled and put a hand on either side of her body on the bed, leaning closer, pushing his cock deeper. Gently, but firmly. Having some of the control taken away sent a thrill skittering through her, lighting every nerve on fire and making her oh-so-aware of her throbbing and empty body.
She fluttered her tongue around his cock, licking and sucking and trying to pay attention to when he tensed or relaxed or moaned or gasped for air. It was intoxicating. She could see why he’d been so pleased with himself last night. If this was anything like it’d been while he had his mouth on her sex, no wonder he’d had that mischievous and proud gleam in his eyes.
“Katherine. You are—” His words were broken by her squeezing gently on his balls, rolling them between her fingers like marbles she could play with. “My shuarra. By Fate—”
His cock was hard as stone and throbbing. She couldn’t see his face, but he’d moved his hands to her bare breasts and was currently plucking at her tender nipples. She whimpered every so often around his cock at the slight burn when he would pinch one ever so slightly harder than usually.
It made her sex clench.
It made her suck even harder at the cock in her mouth. The cock she didn’t want to let go of. Ever.
He was grunting and bucking and she could hear the rumble of a growl in his chest. She let his cock finally fall free from her mouth. It was slick and swollen and she wanted to suck it again, but she wanted it inside her aching empty body more.
“I liked that,” she said, flashing him a shy smile as she scooted up on the bed, so her head wasn’t hanging off. “I didn’t hurt you, did I? I tried to be careful with my teeth.”
He didn’t answer. His eyes were solid gold and glowing. His fangs were down, showing between his lips. “Fates, you were perfect,” he said, his voice a husky growl. “I need you right now.” He grabbed her legs, spinning her to face away from him and then flipped her to her stomach with no more effort than she would’ve lifted a child.
He grabbed her hips and pulled her backward, towards himself. She watched him over her shoulder, anticipation making her stomach quiver. His shoulders glistened with a sheen of sweat. He was big and hard and in charge. So focused. His hands slid over her hips and back, like he was learning every curve of her body. Then his hands landed on her ass and he pulled her backward again, climbing onto the bed behind her.
“I need all of you, Katherine. I need to be deep inside you, my shuarra.”
“Yes,” Katherine answered, her tone breathy and needy and impatient.
He guided his cock to her waiting opening and slid in slowly, methodically, and gently. For such a large man. He was so tender. So careful.
The fullness of him inside her was overwhelming. He inched inside, bit by bit until he was completely seated. Then pulled out painstakingly slowly. Then pushed inside again. Slow, lazy thrusts that made her ache harder. Made her body throb with want and need and desire that threatened to drive her mad. Every movement reinforced how much he adored her. How beautiful he thought she was. How much she belonged to him.
Katherine could feel the possession. And she liked it.
He leaned over her back, kissing her shoulder. Then he slid a hand into her long hair and grabbed a handful of it close to the base of her head. “Tell me you want more.” He whispered into her ear. “Tell me you want it harder.”
Oh, she did. So much. She just hadn’t known to ask for it. “Yes,” she said, the word more of a pleading moan than an answer to a question.
“I don’t want to hurt you. Your body will be sore.”
“No. I’m good. I want it.” She said, her tone pleading. “Please. More.”
He slid out and then drove in harder, like a test to make sure she wouldn’t break. Katherine pushed against him, driving him deeper, relishing the twinge of pain and soreness. It was worth it. He drove into her again and a growl of pleasure echoed through the bedroom. Each thrust became harder. Faster. More.
Their bodies moved in perfect synchronization, taking and receiving everything. The sound of slapping skin and moans and cries of pleasure and the musky smell of sex filled the room.
She glanced over her shoulder, so taken by the animalistic focus and fire blazing in his eyes. It was like he’d been made to fit her and she for him. He knew what she needed before she asked his frenzy was driving her quickly toward a release of her own. She just needed a little— But before she could slip her finger between her sopping wet folds, his hand slid around her hip and tweaked her throbbing clit. The pressure was just enough to ignite her climax. She bucked against him, but he held her tight and drove deep, shouting as he joined her in heaven.
They collapsed next to each other on the bed. Panting. Smiling. Satiated.
At least for a while.
Knox pulled her closer to his chest. The pounding of his heart against her ear soon had her slipping off to dreamland. A place where they lived happily in Mystery and no one was trying to kill anyone, and she had amazing sex with Knox every day for the rest of her life.
If only such dreams were possible.
Kann
Kann swung the ax down, splitting a log clean in two. The blade thunked into the stump below and vibrated through his body. His arms ached and sweat dripped down his temples. His hair was wrapped up and tied on top of his head in something his mate called a man-bun.
Chopping wood was hard work he enjoyed. Because of his shuarra’s money the tribe didn’t want for anything, but warriors got bored with nothing to do. And he liked doing what he could to contribute to the Tribe’s wellbeing.
There was only one completed cabin so far. Col and Naomi had moved only a couple weeks ago. Thanks to the massive crew Penny had hired, the second was close to being finished as well. It was down to something called finishes. He didn’t know what the women were talking about most of the time, but as long as his shuarra was happy, that’s all that mattered.
Penny had ordered furniture too, and they were waiting for it to be delivered to Anchorage. Once it arrived there, they would rent a truck and bring it up to Mystery. The third for Owen and Tara, the newest members of the Tribe, was being marked out now and the crews would be starting on the foundation piers next week. They had to get as much done as possible this summer. Once the frost returned the construction would be put on hold until the next summer season.
Each of the cabins was situated about a quarter mile from each other. The women decided being closer to each other was worth sacrificing the slightest bit of privacy. None of the cabins could see each other through the thick woods but walking between them only took about five to ten minutes. And their beasts could traverse the distance in a fraction of that time.
The property that’d been purchased, butted up against something Naomi called the Denali National Park. Which meant other people couldn’t build very close to them. Mr. Curtis had sold them a lot of acres—whatever that meant. The guys had just been thrilled to find out that they had their own land to hunt and shift on without having to worry about too many tourists.
They still could only hunt at night. For safety and secrecy. Humans seeing their beasts posed a huge risk according to all three mated women. Something about government and testing and prison cages. None of which sounded pleasant. So, they tried to be as discreet as possible.
The slip up with Katherine near the park a few days ago had them all on edge. She’d seen them shift. She knew what they were, but like Tara had said, the wolf with her had claimed she was his mate.
Which presented the Tribe with even more problems and choices. Mainly that Col had ordered every wolf left alive, aside from Ava’s Ryder to be killed or driven out of Mystery. Since none of them seemed to want to leave, they’d been picking them off, one by one.
Kann stacked the split logs and placed another large one on the stump. Hefted up the ax and swung. Thunk. The blade sliced through the wood like scissors through paper.
Tara was trying to argue with Col on Katherine’s behalf. Brave woman that one, fighting for the sake of one of the warriors that kidnapped her from Owen. He’d overheard many arguments in the past few days between the newly mated couple.
Complication thanks to Raish—evil wolf alpha kidnapper—Tara was now a Reylean wolf and mated to a bear. The Tribe had accepted her. Even Col hadn’t so much as blinked a lizard-y eye at the idea of including her in the Tribe. But Ava and her male had not been welcomed. And he got it. Ryder had been fully participating in Tara’s kidnapping and the other earlier attacks on Col and his mate. It was fair. At least they got to stay in town. The unlikely bear/wolf mated pair just wasn’t welcomed to move out onto the Tribe land.
“Kann,” Penny’s voice called from behind him.
He turned, flashing a smile at the most beautiful woman on the entire planet. Didn’t matter to him that she had remained human, even though he’d bitten and marked her. No one had figured out why two of the women had changed and his mate hadn’t. But she didn’t want to be a lion and he didn’t blame her.
Being a lion in this world was hard. Actually, being any kind of large predator in this world was hard. All the males had learned they were prey to human hunters who wanted their heads as trophies and their hides as rugs. It was more than a little unsettling.
Her dark hair waved in the light breeze. He loved how her t-shirt was just a little tight on her stomach. The baby didn’t really show yet, but he could hear the little heartbeats and the tiny little bump was enough for him to see a difference in his mate. He knew every curve and line by heart. That extra little curve on her stomach was new and it made his heart swell in his chest.
“Shuarra,” he said, leaving the ax where it was. He walked to the truck she’d driven over from the main cabin where they all lived together. “Are you well?”
He was going to be a dad.
Their first doctor’s appointment was next week. He’d refused to tell her that she was pregnant with multiples just like Naomi. Except that Naomi was having three and Penny was pregnant with four young.
He just couldn’t.
She’d been freaked out enough when Naomi found out how many young she was carrying, now he was just nervous that Penny would never let him make love to her again as punishment. It wasn’t like he’d known human Reylean matings would create multiple babies at a time.
“I’m fine.” She slid her hands up his chest and grinned up at him like a cat that’d already caught her prey. The scent of her arousal filled his lungs and made him hard in an instant.
“Good.” He bent his head and nuzzled her neck, kissing across the scar where he’d bitten her not too long ago. His scent was forever mixed with hers now and he loved it. Loved her. More than anything.
“Just came out to hang with you for a while and see if the crew had finished with our place yet.”
“And?” He could tell there was more.
“And…Tor left with Saul. Apparently, they caught the scent of a wolf not far from home.”
“The one from town we saw with Katherine?”
She shook her head. “No. They said it was different. A new scent.”
Not good.
They’d tracked five so far, this would make six survivors of the fight with the wolf pack. Which meant it was likely there were even more hiding or who had wisely fled the area. Dragons weren’t really keen on forgiveness, especially when they had young to consider. The fact that Ryder still breathed and had a territory arrangement with the Tribe to stay in Mystery was a miracle.
The situation with the wolf they’d tracked to Katherine’s place was more complicated. This wolf was gathering other survivors from the pack to him. Or they were homing in on him. Almost like he was their new alpha.
In fact, his behavior in the park toward the three wolves they’d caught was very alpha-like.
The likelihood that Col—the Tribe’s Vraka—would allow a pack of wolves to remain in Mystery, arrangement or no arrangement, was highly unlikely.
Penny tapped his cheek.
He snapped out of his thoughts and met her gaze again. “Forgive me.”
“It’s not good is it?”
“No.” He kissed her gently on the lips. “It’s not, but I don’t want you to worry about it.”
“I’m not worried for me. I’m worried about Tara. Katherine is her best friend. She’s moping around the house flipping between sobbing and ranting about Col being unfair. It’s hard to listen to.” Penny leaned against him and rubbed her cheek against his shirt, breathing deeply. “I love the way you smell. I don’t think I tell you enough.”
Kann chuckled. His mate was good. She might be worried about Tara, but she wasn’t letting it affect her too much. “I love the way you smell more,” he said, lowering his voice to a growl.
“Mmmm, we should go walk through our soon-to-be-finished cabin. The building crew is over at the new site today, pouring foundation pillars for Owen and Tara’s place.”
Kann didn’t need to be urged twice.

Katherine
Katherine’s stomach growled loudly, eliciting a round of giggles. “I need to eat
some food. Plus, we really can’t just lay in bed all day.”
“Can’t we?” Knox said, snaking his arm around her waist and pulling her closer to his chest. “I like you just here.” He nuzzled her neck and kissed along her bare shoulder.
Katherine peeled his hand off and slithered from the bed reluctantly. “Not that I don’t want to, but you can’t stay here as much as we both want to pretend that you can. If they realize you’re here.” Her voice trailed off, despair pulling her down from the clouds where she’d been riding all night and morning. “You have to stay off their radar until we figure out some kind of arrangement.”
“I’m not leaving you again.”
Tears welled in Katherine’s eyes. “I don’t want you to go, but I also want you to be alive. Those others. They aren’t playing around. You know I’m right.”
He looked down. Wouldn’t meet her gaze. He knew she was right. They both did. And she hated it. Hated that she’d found a man who made her feel like a whole person and of course he came with all these…extra complications. Complications that threatened his life. That threatened their future. Any future she could hope to have with him.
Oh, God! Her stomach dropped and splatted onto the floor. “What about kids?”
Knox sat up, the sheets dropping from his muscled chest, baring everything. “What kids?”
“Our kids. You didn’t use protection. We could already be. Oh, God. I can’t deal with this now too.” Her tone of voice escalating with each word. Katherine frantically grabbed clothes from the floor and got dressed in record time. She winced every time she put pressure on her bad ankle, but it was already feeling a lot better even with all the bed gymnastics last night.
“Katherine. Protection from what?” Knox followed suit, pulling on the clothes he’d shed the night before and following her around the room.
“You didn’t use a condom. We could be pregnant right now. I’m not on the pill. I wasn’t in a relationship. I don’t even remember the last time I dated, and I’ve never slept with anyone. I didn’t think it was a big deal.” Her voice rose still higher and higher with each sentence, panic settling in for the long haul. “How could I be so careless?”
