Any resemblance to persons living or dead is entirely coincidental, and I take full responsibility for any possible errors. I hope there aren’t too many!

Many people have generously helped me with this book, and I would like to thank them: Judge Cecilia Klerbro, who checked legal procedures in the manuscript; Detective Inspector Rolf Hansson, who answered countless questions on police work; Negra Efendić, an award-winning journalist with Svenska Dagbladet, who specifically looked at the parallel story in Bosnia; Sandhamn resident Gunilla Pettersson, who once again went through the manuscript with sharp archipelago eyes; lawyer Henrik Olsson Lilja, who provided valuable support in questions relating to the role of the defense attorney and the Swedish Bar Association’s rules and regulations; Ambassador Björn Lyrvall, who lived in Sarajevo and was heavily involved in the peace process in 1995–97; Detective Inspector Annika Teckner, who explained the new police organization and the work that goes on in Flemingsberg; Peter Einarsson, Area Manager for Handelsbanken, who clarified the rules regarding money laundering and tax evasion; and Camilla Sten, my very best sounding board.

This novel is the result of teamwork. Without my fantastic publisher, Karin Linge Nordh, and Sweden’s best editor, John Häggblom, it would have been a completely different and vastly inferior book. Thank you so much—it’s a real privilege to work with you, and with the phenomenal Sara Lindegren and everyone else at Forum.

Annika, Sissel, and everyone at Bindefeld—thank you for your brilliant contributions!

Anna Frankl, you are my rock! I’m so grateful for everything that you, Joakim Hansson, and the gang at Nordin Agency do to promote my books all over the world.

Finally, to my family: Lennart, Camilla, Alexander, and Leo. I love you.
