“I believe you’re right, my love,” replied Crown.

They both went down the building, and walked out to the streets towards the marching crowds. They realized that such marches were not only set in New York, but were also taking place all over the world. Televisions and radio stations were broadcasting protests from Europe, the Middle East, Africa and many other places. It was truly a worldwide movement, and it was conducted in the most powerful spirit the human race had ever seen.

“We’ll run towards the very beginning of the protest,” said Kelly, “and once we reach the front, you will transform into your dragon form and deliver a speech.”

“But,” said Crown, clearly a little nervous, “what should I say?”

“You will tell them that you need their help,” Kelly said. “Tell them what is truly happening in the Valley. Tell them what their airplanes and drones and rockets are doing to our people. Be honest with them. Tell them exactly what is happening and tell them that we will never survive without them.”

“And if the human militaries come after me?” said Crown.

“I am certain they won’t,” she said. “Because if they do, they risk murdering hundreds, if not thousands, of their own people. In other words, you will be sheltered by the human protestors.”

“It’s a risk nonetheless,” said Crown.

“It is,” said Kelly. “But it’s the only option we have.”

“No matter what happens,” said Crown, holding Kelly’s face and locking his eyes onto hers, “I will love you forever. You are the love of my life, my darling. So if I don’t make it, then I hope you will remember me.”

“Don’t say that,” Kelly said, tearing up again. “I can’t bear the thought of you dying. You’ve become everything to me. You’re my one and only world.”

“You are too, my darling,” Crown said, pressing his lips hard onto Kelly’s. “You are too, my love,” he repeated, as he held her by the hair and kissed her passionately, his tongue moving fast all over hers and filling her mouth with the passion of his lips, the fire of his touch.

William and Kelly ran to the front of the march, and made their way to the top of a large building that the protest seemed to be heading towards. It was there, on that roof, that Crown changed into his dragon form – a transformation that was one of the most powerful, and certainly most beautiful, that Kelly had ever seen.

Crown spread his wings in the most passionate way possible. As he transformed, he created what looked like a fire tornado. A twirling hurricane of flame surrounded his changing form as he burst into a wild growl. His wings took on the most amazing fiery colors, and as he stood upright, he breathed flame and smoke from his mouth, his nose, and his ears. The march all suddenly stopped, and everyone was in awe, some gasping in surprise, others tearing up and even screaming in bewilderment. Many took out their phones or cameras, taking pictures and applauding the mighty dragon standing at the top of the building before them. It was a sight like no other, and even Kelly could not stop the tears from falling down her face. And then he began.

“My dear human race,” Crown cried, “how noble it is of you to all be here today. This is a glorious hour, one that will make its mark in history for the next generations to come. You are all here with the kindest and most admirable of spirits, standing in solidarity with your friends, the dragons. As you all know, we truly do come in peace. In fact, we have only come to reappear because we are in desperate need of your help. We have shown ourselves to your leaders because we ask to share the precious fruits of this planet with you. We are dying, you see. Our race is coming to an end, we are running out of resources, out of food and water and space for shelter. We have to organize hunts where we try to catch an animal or two from the distant woods of the Antarctic to survive. But alas, once we showed ourselves to your leaders, they have only greeted us with their guns and bombs. They’ve attached us, killed many of our men, and have now attacked our valley – the only home we have and where our wives and children live, or in other words, have lived. They are now at our valley, dropping bombs over our village, murdering our young, slaughtering our women and our elderly for their skin and bone and tissue. They would overthrow a race, eliminate it from the face of the earth, enslave what is left of it, for the sake of profit. Their devilish enterprise it on the move, and we are close to the end – the end of our race, of our entire existence.

You, the majority of the human race, are the only hope we have left. We ask you to pressure your leaders, threaten them if you must, for them to spare our existence. We ask that you convince them to put an end to this industry, and to truly allow for a peaceful coexistence between humans and dragons. Rise with me, my dear human friends! Let us rise together against the forces of evil! Let us fight this last fight together, as one group of living beings, humans or dragons. Let us be brave together!”

The entire march was chanting and applauding in support. Not only the protestors of New York, but also those throughout the globe who had been watching Crown speak live on international television and radio were all ready to fight with him. It was a moment of true support, and it seemed that the entire group of protestors was ready to follow Crown until the very end. Crown looked back at Kelly, who had been standing behind him the whole time, and found her smiling and applauding in tears. He then extended his arm, and told her to get on his back. She got on top of him, and he suddenly flew over the protestors, leading the march to the United Nations headquarters, where the decisions to attack the dragons were all taken place.

When they were just about to reach the building, Crown quickly descended and buried himself amidst the crowd of protesters. By the time they arrived, the tanks, airplanes and guns were all waiting for him, but nothing would fire in fear of hitting the protestors and creating a mass slaughter that would create political crises beyond imagination, just as Kelly had expected.

Before they knew it, protestors both in New York and around the world started getting violent. They were crashing into their government’s buildings, throwing fire into international headquarters and threatening to start chaos if their leaders did not put an end to the bloodshed. It was as if they were promising an apocalypse onto the world order, completely abolishing the status quo and throwing the world into turmoil and anarchy if the weapons were not ordered to leave as soon as possible. With the many revolutions that the human world had seen, this was unprecedented. It was truly a call for the end of war, and the world leaders had no other choice but to agree.

“The people are going mad!” one leader cried. “It’s happening everywhere! They are getting more violent by the minute.”

“We must not surrender!” cried another. “We will have order if we want to! They are being manipulated by the dragons!”

The rest of the leaders were not at ease with the idea of continuing to slaughter the dragons. The people were pushing too hard, and if they did not listen to the majority then they risk having a larger war.

“Gentlemen!” another stood up and yelled. “Don’t you all see? If you don’t call off this mission we are risking a fight with our own people! And believe me when I tell you that history proves that it will only be our heads that hang on spikes at the end! We must call this off, now!”

“I agree!” one of them cried.

“So do I!” and so did another. “This must come to end!”

All of a sudden, the entire room was arguing to call off the mission. And the one or two leaders who were against aborting the operation had no choice but to succumb. As a result, the mission was called off back at the Valley, and the soldiers were all ordered to retreat back to base and release any prisoners they had held captive throughout the process.

After it was all over, Crown and Kelly went back to see the survivors. They later found out that William had died in battle, and so did Viera. Damien was severely injured, and was ill for a long time before he gracefully passed away. There was also severe outrage in the human world with the leaders who greedily started this wh
ole massacre. New human leaders were elected, who later made peace agreements with Kelly and Crown, bringing the dragon race back to live amongst the humans, and to again prosper equally off the riches of the earth. Walls were built up to commemorate those who died for the sake of such a noble cause, be it humans or dragons. And it was agreed upon that such a horrendous yet highly significant moment in history be marked and remembered forever by both the humans and the dragons. Damien was fortunate enough to witness the fruits of his battles finally come to life. His dreams of watching humans and dragons live peacefully side by side came true, and he happily passed the throne onto Kelly and Crown with full blessing and faith.

Months later, as Kelly and Crown lay bare next to each other before another peacefully rising sun, Crown looked at Kelly and said, “You know, sometimes I wonder how we managed to do it.”

“We did it by having faith in both races, my darling,” said Kelly, caressing Crown’s chest. “We did it by having the same faith that Damien wanted us to have all along.”

“Do you think he’s happy?” asked Crown. “All of them actually. Do you think they’re happy?”

“I am sure they are watching over us with shimmering eyes and wide smiles.”

Humans and dragons continued centuries of peaceful coexistence, living side by side as one people.

  Chapter One

Aldain Kincaid sat on the couch sulking. He would never admit that is what he was doing, but that is exactly what someone would call it. His friends Cade and Becca were basking in their love for each other, while he was alone, with no one to call his own. He would never admit he was jealous of their relationship but he craved that kind of relationship for himself.

There were many dragon shifters that never found their soul mate. They either married someone other than their soul mate or chose to remain alone the rest of their very very long lives. He fell into the latter category, he wanted all or nothing. His friends noticed that he wasn’t really acting like himself. By having them watch him every day for the last several months they have been living with him was obviously affecting him. He was glad to have them there. His castle was more than big enough to accommodate them and give everyone their privacy. The only places shared were the Den where the books were kept and the room that housed the satellite television.

Aldain thought of asking them if they wanted their own private den closer to where their bedroom was but he doesn’t want them to think that they are not welcomed in his home and that their company is not enjoyable. He really does enjoy having them there; it was the days like today he was having a pity party for himself wishing that they would snuggle up somewhere else. He knew that today wasn’t a good day for him because his face seemed to be in a perpetual scowl. Becca looked questioningly at him but said nothing. She respected his privacy enough to think if he wanted her to know what was bothering him, he would tell her. He knew it would never dawn on her that he was anything but happy for them. He loved Becca and both she and Cade knew this, but they also knew he could never love her as he would a soul mate and his love for her was more like a family member. There was a time he was willing to try and make a different kind of relationship with Becca work, but that was when Cade was treating her so badly she would cry herself to sleep every night.

Thank God, those days were behind everyone and everything worked out for them. He just wanted what they had and it wasn’t until he was around them long enough that he realized he really was lonely.

He knew he had to get out; he was getting so miserable that he couldn’t even stand himself. He looked over at the couple across from him, snuggled up to each other watching some kind of re-run on television. He quickly stood up from the chair he was in, and while heading for the door yelled, “I am going out for a while. I may be late so don’t hold dinner for me; I will eat while I am gone.” Without waiting for a reply, he shifted into his dragon form and flew away.

Aldain flew for what seemed like hours, then his stomach started to grumble. He seemed to have lost track of time. He was surprised to find that he was starving, he was so deep in thought wondering if he would ever find his soul mate. He flew to an island he saw and decided to see if he could find anything on it dinner worthy. He didn’t see any people on it but he did see wild goats. His mouth watered as he dove down towards them. The goats saw him coming and took off running in all directions, bleating warnings to each other, but a dragon was much faster than a goat. Aldain caught his dinner in his mouth, full of foot long teeth, and landed on the beach as he ate the goat whole.

When a dragon shifter gets extremely hungry, his dragon takes over to the point he is more dragon than human and the only thing on his mind is filling his stomach. If there was a human who knew about dragon shifters and saw anything like that, it would scare them so badly that they wouldn’t care about the human half. They would probably never want to have anything to do with another dragon shifter as long as they lived.

Aldain felt full and his dragon got sleepy so he stayed on the beach basking in the sun and again was thinking of his lack of a soul mate. He fell asleep.

The sounds of bleating woke him up. The sky was dark and the goats, while still a distance from him, were closer to him than was probably wise for them. Then he saw the long lush grass that his very large body was close to and understood why they were taking their chances. He sh
ook his head to help himself wake up for the long flight back home. When he started moving the goats again started to run in all directions bleating, but Aldain knew he could eat when he got home and wanted to get there before the sun came up. He didn’t want to worry his friends and he wanted to sleep in his own bed.

He spread his wings, ran along the beach and took flight. It was a beautiful thing to see, a dragon in flight; Aldain was beautiful in his dragon form. His red scales were shimmering in any kind of light. His eyes were emerald green in human form, but in dragon form his pupils slit sideways like a cat and turned yellow. He has a set of black, wickedly sharp looking horns bending back from his head going almost halfway down his back. He has a mouth full of foot long teeth. His tail even has three spikes on the end. You could tell just from looking at him that his body was made to be the perfect fighting machine. His human form was just as imposing as his dragon form. He has shoulder length black hair and bright green eyes. He stands six foot four inches tall, and has wide shoulders and muscular arms. His waist tapers down to reveal a six-pack stomach and long, muscular legs. With every movement, you saw the perfect muscles formations. His physical body also looks like the perfect fighting machine. In either form, he was beautiful to the point of perfection.

He finally made it home in the wee hours of the morning. Everything was quiet; he quietly snuck into the kitchen to raid the refrigerator. He heard a sound behind him that startled him. He quickly turned to find Becca behind him.
