“It doesn’t work that way, Grace. You take your burdens with you, wherever you go. No matter where I go, I’ll always carry the guilt for my father’s death with me. And besides, not everyone wants you to leave. I don’t.”
A smile crossed her face. “Oh, Logan, that’s what I wanted to hear you say.” She hurried to his side and knelt beside the sofa. “I didn’t know…you said one time you didn’t know if you could settle down in one place or not.”
“I think I can. I know we haven’t known each other but a few days, but I feel like I’ve known you my whole life.”
“What about who I am? Would you be ashamed of me? After all, I am the niece of a whore.”
“I know who you are, and I’d never be ashamed of you. You think you’d like the ranching life?”
“I think I could learn to like it.”
“What about Maggie?”
“Lottie told me what happened. Maggie was in love with Randolph, and he used that love to manipulate and trick her. And she has to live with what she did for the rest of her life. I think she really loved Aunt Lily and didn’t know what Randolph planned.”
“What about Miss Lily’s Boarding House?”
“I’m giving it to Maggie, Lottie and the others to run as a respectable boarding house. I think Aunt Lily would like that.”
“Me, too. Now kiss me.”
