  "Afraid you'll get bored by the time we make it back to Mars, beloved?" he asked, stroking her back gently.

  "I'm afraid that we'll die of exhaustion before we're halfway there," she explained, and bit him. He gasped, fingers tightening and digging into her skin, and she could feel him stir again.

  "That's a risk we'll have to take," Kosar growled, pulling her up to him and biting her neck in return. Ashley shrieked and giggled, thrashing helplessly in his arms.

  Boring is one thing this journey could never be.

  Epilogue

  Floating in zero gravity was second nature to Ashley now, and she almost didn't notice the lack of weight. Moving with grace and ease she and Kosar moved to the airlock that linked the Grace of Herendar with Phobos station. They'd finally reached Mars and docked with the orbital, and for the first time in months, they wouldn't be alone.

  The Reliant, the ship that had come out to meet them and towed them back home, still watched over them in case of trouble. But the station's tugs had done their job well and the airlocks met perfectly. With a subtle hiss the station doors opened, and Ashley was taken aback by the crowd that waited to greet them. Humans and dragons floated together, there to welcome them home.

  It was an overwhelming sight after so long on their own, and Ashley almost hid behind Kosar. She might have if he hadn't gently pushed her forward.

  "I'm right here," he told her quietly, the vibrations of his deep voice comforting her.

  Trusting him, she let herself drift aboard the space station, looking around. Everyone was there. Journalists, camera drones hovering where they had a view of everything. Executives from the Consortium corporations, scientists from the Imperial Research Center, and dragon shifter guards surrounding Emperor Verikan himself.

  But there was only one person here to meet them that she cared about, and he came rocketing out of the crowd to embrace her fiercely. The impact sent the two of them spinning to the side, and Ashley laughed for joy as she returned her brother's hug.

  "Michael! You're okay?" she asked once she had her breath back.

  "I'm fine. Better than fine. I feel amazing," Michael said, grinning. He was putting on muscle now, no longer the stick-thin figure she remembered from the hospital on Earth. Dragon medicine was working its magic. "It's all thanks to you, sis."

  Tears welled in her eyes at that, and she hugged him tighter. "Not just me. If it wasn't for Kosar here, I wouldn't have managed anything."

  "Well, mostly you then," Michael said, unwilling to let her give up much of the credit. Ashley shook her head, trying to wipe away the tears. That wasn't easy in zero gravity, since they wouldn't run down her cheeks.

  Kosar snagged them out of their spin, taking Ashley by the shoulder and holding her tight.

  "So, you're my mate's little brother," he rumbled down at Michael as he steadied the two of them. Smiling, he offered his hand and Michael, unexpectedly solemn, shook it.

  "Welcome to the family," Michael said, and Kosar laughed. Ashley blushed, trying not to cry with happiness. Her family was together now, and nothing would ever tear them apart.
