Standing, I nearly ripped the button from my jeans I was in such a hurry to get them off. It took more tries than it should have to get my belt undone and my jeans tugged down my legs because she was giving me another of her trademark looks. The kind that made her seem like an otherworldly creature come down to this small, insignificant dot just for me.

  It was humbling.

  Arousing.

  A little bit terrifying.

Years. That was how long it had taken me to come to terms with the fact that Creed might head into a confrontation and not come back.

Whether we were on the best of terms or not didn’t matter. Losing Creed would be a crippling blow.

  Losing Kayla?

I shook my head. It didn’t bear thinking about because I simply wouldn’t survive. That would be the end of me right then and there.

Tugging my boxer briefs and kicking them into a corner, I banished those thoughts in favor of watching her eyes go wide at the sight of my size and piercing. Watching how her tongue flicked out between her lips as if it had a mind of its own. Seemed like my girl had a taste for cock.

One of these days, I was going to be all too happy to indulge her for as long as her jaw could take it.

I could already see myself grabbing a fistful of that bright blue hair and pummeling the inside of her mouth with deep thrusts. I could picture how her eyes would water while she struggled to breathe and still kept gobbling at my dick like she needed it to live.

  Fuck.

I stroked myself, tugging on the curved, silver barbell that went through the head of my cock.

I climbed back onto the bed. Crawled towards her. She watched my muscles shift and flex, and I watched her thighs spread to make room for me between them.

“Yours,” she answered my unasked question and her cheeks flushed a brighter shade of red. I didn't bother hiding my smirk.

For someone who dressed like she wanted to command the attention of everybody in a hundred-mile radius—male and female both—she was certainly shyer than I had expected.

Not that I was complaining, mind you.

Exhaust fumes hadn’t killed that many of my brain cells over the years. Whoever came before me was simply irrelevant.

We were each other’s past, present, and future. Anything else had never been more than a speed bump on a road that led us to right here. The beginning of us. And the end of any dumbass who might try to come between that.

“Babe.” She cupped my jaw, shattering my murderous thoughts.

I let my fists relax where they were crumpling the sheets on either side of her and stared down at warm brown eyes I planned on looking into for the rest of my life.

I'm going to marry you, Pixie.

The thought came unbidden but one hundred percent accurate.

I propped myself up long enough to reach out towards the bedside table and tear open the packet I had left there. I was in the process of removing the condom when blue-tipped nails came into my field of view, grabbing it from me. I blinked and looked down at her, eyes narrowing at the eager expression she was wearing.

  Is she really going to…?

I got my answer as she sat up, sheathing me with clumsy movements. Despite my earlier ravings, I was oddly glad to find something else that she was shaken by. Then my cock was covered, and the only missing puzzle piece was why the fuck am I not inside her?

Resting on my forearms, I lowered myself, fusing our mouths together. Fucking hell, was it even possible to get tired of kissing this woman? I didn’t think such a concept existed. Nor was I in a hurry to find out.

While she made little noises that had my cock jumping all over the damn place, I lined myself up with her entrance and rocked forward, slowly pushing inside. Almost the entire rest of my body froze, and I buried my face in the pillow beside her, letting the soft fabric absorb the multitude of curses that came pouring from my mouth.

She fit me perfectly. The feeling was out of this fucking world. I stopped once I was as deep as I could go and her arms wound around my neck while her tight, little pussy squeezed at my shaft.

“Holy shit,” she whispered into my ear, causing a chuckle to drift out of my chest and float around us. Warm and light and comforting.

She laughed too, but only for a moment because her body clamped down around me again and we both groaned against each other.

“When I said you were magic,” I managed through a clenched jaw, trying not to blow my fucking load. “I didn’t know I was gonna be this right about it.”

She nipped at the side of my face. “No take-backs. You’re under my spell now.”

I drew my hips back and pumped inside her. Hard. Our flesh met in the middle with a carnal clap and my balls slapped against her ass. “Wouldn’t have it any other way.”

She held onto me, letting me set the pace. I had never been a speed demon, but I certainly understood the meaning of going from zero to sixty. Because that was how fast I took us to the brink of what our bodies could handle.

I pumped into her body like a machine running a single program. Or maybe several of them. They all demanded the same thing of me.

  Claim. Mark. Mine.

My teeth found her neck, latching on.

“Fuck.” She let go of my neck, hands going to the wall behind her. Sweat beaded on both of us, making our bodies stick together.

For a moment, I thought she was bracing herself. Trying to withstand the fact that I was visualizing all the power in my body concentrated into my rock-hard cock. But I should’ve known better than to think I could predict this gorgeous woman.

She was going to keep me on my toes. That was for sure.

Kayla got her bearings against the wall and started pushing her body against mine. Fucking me as much as I was fucking her.

Two can play at that game.

Before she could react, I let my weight drop, pinning her beneath me. She screeched in fury, trying to work her hips to keep up with the friction between us but it was no use. I was too heavy for her to move.

“Bastard.” She scratched at me and I laughed, sliding to the side of her.

I raised her leg and angled her the way I needed so that I could drive into her sideways. She stopped trying to melt me with the laser beam of her glare the moment I bumped against the end of her tight sheath.

Her whole body trembled, starting from her lower back and spreading out from there. The feeling was unlike anything I had ever known, and I chased the goosebumps that stole across her skin with my tongue.

My arm under her leg became the only thing holding her up and if not for her nails digging into my flesh, I would’ve thought she had passed out from how boneless she became.

I took full and complete advantage of her loose state, aware it was likely going to be a temporary affair. I took advantage and felt no need to apologize for it. Because as I used her body, taking what I wanted from her without care, she started a chant.

It was low, at first. Breathless. But as my balls tightened and my thrusts became rougher, the sound got louder.

  And louder still.

“Yes. Yes. Yes!” Her earlier frenzy returned, and she started thrusting against me, throwing her ass back while each shout ended on an untamed moan.

I groaned, feeling my cock swell. She was going to drain me. I already knew.

“Pixie,” I warned, reaching between her thighs to find her clit.

She nodded shakily, chest heaving. That was all the approval I needed.

Dipping my fingers, I brought the wetness back up to the sensitive nub and started circling. Her orgasm crashed into her and her pussy spasmed around me, drawing my cum from my body with ease.

“Fuck!” I shouted, holding her tight to me as I found my release. Hips not settling until the last of my cum, and energy, had faded. Breathing hard, I cradled her there in my arms. Planting soft kisses on the back of her neck until I thought I could use my goddamn knees again.

I rolled off the bed and stood, quickly disposing of t
he condom before crawling back in beside her. She turned on a soft sigh, cuddling up to me, and I drew the covers up and over the both of us.

“Does this mean you’re not going to barge into my classes like a Neanderthal anymore? Because that was kind of fun.”

“Say the word and I’m there. Let any fuckface guy like Gibson even dream that he might have a chance and I'm there as well.”

She rolled her eyes, but I could see the sparkle inside them. “You’re horrible.”

“Yes I am.” I put my hand on the small of her back, drawing her in closer. “Hope you can handle that because you’re stuck with me now, Pixie.”

She pursed her lips, getting ready to form a response. Then a distant, familiar jingle reached both of us at the same time and she frowned. My brows bunched together, and I wanted to stomp down the steps and crunch her phone just because it was responsible for putting that look there.

“Something important?” I asked, holding myself carefully still.

Kayla shook her head, burying her face in the middle of my chest. Her breath fanned out over me as she spoke. “That was the ringtone I have for my mother. She probably just found out about what happened at Aster’s tonight.”

The way she said mother spoke volumes. I captured a lock of blue hair between my fingers, spinning it around idly while I felt like being anything but. “I take it you don’t want to call her back?”

“Fuck to the no. She’s just going to find a reason to blame what happened on me.”

I blinked, fingers pausing. “Well, would you look at that? I hate the bitch already.”

She snorted and the note was musical. “You’re so bad. Aren’t you supposed to be super intimidating like...all the time? Those are part of the requirements, aren’t they?”

“I’m not with the club, Pixie. I don’t have to follow anyone's rules and regulations but my own. And according to company policy, the woman I love is meant to drift off into a restful sleep after I fuck her brains out.”

Kayla smiled but didn’t say anything about the declaration I had thrown out there. I had no problem with that. She was coming around. And I wasn’t going anywhere.

She placed a quick kiss on my pec and then closed her eyes. “I’ll deal with the Ice Queen tomorrow. She’s not going anywhere. Which means we’ll end up having the same battle we always do until she stomps off in a huff. Again, fuck her.”

I said nothing. Instead, I watched and waited while she slowly drifted off to sleep in my arms. Once her breathing evened out, I rested my chin on her head, breathing her in.

“Your enemies are mine,” I swore. And meant it.

No matter what, I was on her side.

  Everything else was dust.

  Chapter 10 - Kayla

I don’t want to be back here.

That was my first thought when I found myself standing outside the gated land of the family estate. My stomach shrank into a ball while I stared at the iron gates and well-groomed land beyond them.

Even though I was on such bad terms with my parents, it freaking sucked that I no longer looked forward to returning to the house. Despite the bad times I had experienced, there were good ones as well.

I still remembered feeling like a little princess when Dad used to chase me around the cavernous halls and Mom had laughed and played right along with us.

Looking up the winding path towards the white structure, it was hard to believe those that had ever happened. There were no longer any traces of the joy the three of us once existed in. Any evidence of it had been washed away. Trampled underfoot by the disappointment they never failed to show once it turned out that I could have a mind of my own instead of obeying their every order.

They wanted a chess piece and wound up with something else instead. Something with wings and an urge to stretch them and see how far she could go. A pixie.

I grinned as I thought about the handsome man who loved me.

  Loved. Me.

It was insane and yet I didn’t doubt it for a moment. All the stories said that home is where the heart is. I knew where mine was located, and it wasn’t within those stuffy walls full of angst and hate.

A horn blew behind me and I waved at Lizzy. She waved and flashed me two thumbs up—a huge grin on her face that hadn’t left since I told her what happened between Rain and me—before starting her car and heading down the street.

Nothing left but to face the music.

I sucked in a deep breath and glanced at the clouds as I strode through the open gates. The distant rumble of thunder that accompanied the thick, grey canopy hanging above me seemed oddly appropriate for the moment.

Hitching my purse higher on my shoulder, I walked with my head held high because it would be just like my mother to watch my approach from one of the many windows just for the chance she might find something else to complain about.

When I reached the front door, a familiar smell like something was burning reached me. But when I sniffed the air again it was gone. I shook my head, dismissing the notion. I was the only one in this family that had cooked inside these walls in years. The Ice Queen probably wouldn’t know how to turn the stove on if the staff wasn’t around to do it and prepare her meals.

I snickered as I pictured her roaming the halls, starving because everyone was gone except for her. It would suit the frigid woman to be left alone in the cold while the world moved on, but I knew the Warden would never leave her.

She had sunk her icy talons too deep for him to ever dislodge.

When the Ice Queen herself opened the door, I should have known something was wrong.

I should have turned on my heel and walked away. Called Lizzy to come back and get me. But in that moment, there was a clinging part of me that still recognized the woman standing before me as my mom.

Or at least the person my mom used to be. And that was enough.

I stepped inside, and she slammed the door behind me with a sort of terrible finality.

The hairs on the back of my neck stood on end and I waited anxiously for the insults I knew she was eager to lob my way. Grenades that used to explode right over my heart before I shut her out. Except she didn’t so much as look at me before she set off towards the back of the house, and like a rat unaware it was following a trail of poison and death, I followed behind her silently.

  Where was the freakout?

She’d left a voicemail of indecipherable screeching on my phone that was so long it had gotten cut off. Now that I was here in person, she had turned curiously mute.

Wetting suddenly dry lips, I increased my pace until I was right behind her. “Where are we going?”

She kept ignoring me, and my brows knit themselves together. For years, I had hoped for this kind of reaction from her. For her to simply forget about my existence until I could cut the cord between us.

Finally, my wish was being granted.

But the satisfaction I expected was nowhere to be found.

There weren’t any lights on in the hall, so when an orange glow appeared around her silhouette, making the shadows we cast dance, I leaned around her automatically to look.

  So, there was something burning.

  What was it?

I was not prepared in the least to reach the patio door that led onto the deck and find a giant bonfire out on the concrete slab at the back of the house.

My eyes went wide, and I glanced at the emotionless woman beside me. “A little early in the year for smores.”

Her lip curled in a snarl that had mine thinning in response to the nastiness she was injecting in that one expression. “You should look closer. You’ve always missed the things that were right in front of you. Likely because you’ve never had the good sense to follow what I’ve tried to teach you all your life.”

“And what wise words are you imagining you shared with me?” I huffed and crossed my arms, cocking my hip. “About the only thing I can remember you trying to teach me was how to be a showpiece for whatever husband came along and decided
he wanted me.”

Her eyes narrowed and I wasn’t hurt by the anger stirring inside them. No. What hurt me was looking at her and seeing the possibilities. The things that might have been if she wasn’t more concerned about her wealth and status than she cared about me.

Despite the age on her face. The procedures. The injections. The hair that never deviated from the same style in Lord knows how long. We still looked a lot alike.

Staring at her while she gave me that you’re nothing but a bug I should crush underfoot look was like looking in a mirror. Except not one of the good mirrors that took pounds off in all the right places.

This was closer to a funhouse version.

She was everything I would’ve been if I had let naked greed swallow my heart and followed in her footsteps. It was quite an ugly sight to behold.

“Stare and judge me all you want,” said the Ice Queen, smoothing her features. The smile she pasted on her face was incredibly fake and so much harsher because of it. “I told you, daughter. You were going to cross a line, and you have. First, you let some hooligan attack poor Mr. Montgomery and then-”

“What!?” I was in her face before I realized it, fists balled. “You know that sicko?”

“Watch your mouth,” she snapped, lifting her nose in the air. “You should’ve been happy he decided to pay any attention to you at all you ungrateful little bitch.”

  I drew back, blinking.

  Stunned.

  Reeling.

My hand came up to cover my mouth while I tried to catch my balance. She had never cursed at me before. Not once. But true to her shark-like nature, she could tell there was blood in the water. And that was when she struck.

She stuck her French-tipped nail out, pointing at me. It leveled with my chest and I swear I felt a stab despite the distance between us. “Do you know how much work your father had to do to get him here? To make sure he stayed around for so long? It took months. Months! And after all that time you once again decided to throw away a perfect chance to marry yourself to someone with a good name and strong family. You could have been a missus already if not for that stupid hair leeching out every last bit of your brain cells.”
