  * Betcha didn’t know I love Broadway.

  * Which is why we created a Medium page called “Crushing It,” where we publish stories and celebrate people who are using Crush It! principles to achieve personal and professional success. Come check it out at https://medium.com/crushingit.

  * He later mentioned it on his blog in a post he wrote dedicated to improving my LinkedIn performance: https://lewishowes.com/featured-articles/13-ways-gary-vaynerchuk-should-be-crushing-it-on-linkedin.

  * As much as I share about my daily life, my wife and children are off-limits. We’ll revisit the issue later when the children are older and can decide for themselves if they want to have a public presence connected to my brand. It’s a decision Lizzie and I made for our family, but I wholly support anyone who makes a different choice.

  * You can read his version: DRock, “How I Got My Job for Gary Vaynerchuk,” Medium, June 1, 2017, https://medium.com/@DavidRockNyc/let-me-preface-this-story-with-something-ive-been-thinking-about-lately-2242480640f2.

  * I hesitate to offer parenting advice, but if you’re a parent with a talented child, this might not be a bad place to let him or her showcase their talents. You’re never too young to start building a personal brand. Can you imagine if Justin Bieber’s mom had banned him from YouTube? Maybe manager Scooter Braun or some other talent scout would have discovered him anyway. But maybe they wouldn’t have, and now Bieber could be just another physical therapist with a beautiful voice who’d always have to wonder, “What if?”

  * For explicit instructions on how to create and upload your own, read my blog post called “How to Create and Use Snapchat’s New Custom Geofilters,” https://www.garyvaynerchuk.com/how-to-create-and-use-snapchats-new-custom-geofilters.

  * Many sports internships are going to require that applicants be enrolled in a degree program or be a recent graduate of one, so in this case, make your tuition worthwhile and do your best.

  * See? When I tell you that it’s not worth sacrificing long-term success for short-term economic gain, I speak from experience. When I finally got around to building up my YouTube presence around 2015, I had only about forty thousand subscribers. Imagine how many millions more people I could have reached during all that time if I hadn’t had my head turned by Viddler’s lucrative offer.

  * Especially if you’re into sports. I predict that eventually there will be a sport that will be built from scratch through Facebook Live or maybe even some live platform that doesn’t yet exist. It will upend the televised sports industry as we know it. Just watch.

  * This is a crucial point, one that I outline in detail in another book, Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook. If you don’t already understand the nuances of jabs and right hooks, pick up a copy and figure it out before you go acting like a slimeball.

  * I know that this is still a too common scenario. Many organizations simply cannot understand that it’s in their best interest to let their employees be real on social media, and that the best way to control their online image is quite simply to be such an amazing brand and create such a supportive work environment that employees have only good things to say about them. Unless you work in law or finance, where the rules are a little different, here’s my advice for those of you working for companies that won’t allow you to express yourself online and create a personal brand, even on your own time: Leave as soon as you can, and go work for one that will. Better yet, start your own thing, as Brittney Castro did (see Chapter 12).
