“No, now get out or I’ll get dressed whether you’re there or not.” I threatened.
He didn’t move. He was still staring at me, so I played through and started undoing my top button of my pyjamas. He still hadn’t moved but I wasn’t going to fold. I got to my third button when I heard him slam the door. I was just trying to prove a point, but he watched me for longer than I thought he would. Then again, I did burst in on him topless, but it’s different for boys. I spent a lot of time with Caitlin’s brother Eli growing up. Caitlin would always stick her fingers down her throat if she saw him topless, so that’s what I was expecting. Eli was a very good-looking guy. Probably the only guy I ever really got along with except for Mathew. He had brown messy hair, a strong face and bright blue eyes. Caitlin thought I was starting to fancy him, but she was dead wrong. She said she could tell, so I hoped she never would never meet Aiden. Well never meet him again that is. I peeked out into the hallway and saw the bathroom door open. Creeping past Aiden’s room, I quickly locked the bathroom door and started getting ready for school. This was going to be a tough day.
Aiden
“No, now get out now or I’ll get dressed whether you’re there or not.” She said.
Well I wasn’t leaving and there was no way she was going to do it, so I called her bluff. I folded my arms across my chest and watched her. She hesitantly fiddled with her top button and undid it. Now I was fixed. I didn’t want to move. I watched as she undid the second button and the blush splaying across her chest. It was starting to turn me on now and when she undid the third button I had to close the door. I couldn’t believe she did it. Fuck this I needed to get ready. I decided to wear baggy trousers just in case she pulled a stunt like that again, but really it didn’t take much for her to do that to me.
When I got downstairs it was already 8.30am. It took me a long time to get myself sorted. Evelyn was sitting at the table eating breakfast. I walked in and said good morning. She turned to me.
“Aiden I’m sorry about earlier. I’m a little on edge with school and I’m used to only living with my mom. We generally had a lot of privacy, so it might take a while to settle in.” She said.
“No problem. Are you ready for school? As we have to leave in… Well, now.” I laughed.
“Yeah I’ll just grab my bag.”
As she got up and bent down to pick it up, I should have looked away, but I didn’t. It felt amazing looking at her. I almost didn’t want to lose this feeling, but I would rather have it with someone else.
I noticed Evelyn was quiet in the car.
“You ok?” I asked her as I moved her hair away from her eyes. Luckily, we were in the back seat, so Jake didn’t see, but even I knew that was weird.
“Yeah I’m just a little nervous I guess.” She said quietly.
“What are you nervous about?” I asked. It was a pretty boring school.
“I don’t really get on with people that well.”
“Are you kidding? I’ve only just met you and I love you.” Jake said from the front. Evelyn laughed, but I was staring at Jake in the mirror.
“Oops I take it back, Aiden’s giving me stink eye.” Jake said trying not to laugh us off the road. I was going to tackle him when we get out of the car.
“Yeah but that’s different. I live with you; you have no choice but to like me. I guess it’s more I don’t like being around a lot of people.” She said.
“Well you’ll be OK then. When I’m alone I’m always surrounded, but when I’m with Aiden nobody comes near so just stick next to him. You can be recluses together.” He said.
“Sounds good to me.” I replied.
Once we arrived at the school I looked at Evelyn and she was really pale. I got out and went around to her door and took her hand in mine. “We need to go to the office and get your schedule.”
“Is Jake coming?” She asked. She’d see why he wasn’t coming in a matter of seconds.
“He might be a little busy.” I said pointing to the group of girls circling him.
Evelyn started laughing. “Wow he’s popular.”
“Girls I’m sorry but I can’t right now I have to go with them.” Jake said pointing to us. I felt Evelyn go a little stiff when they all glared at her.
“Nice job Jake putting her on the spot like that.” I said to him.
“You know you look like a couple holding hands like that right?” Jake whispered looking down.
“I don’t care.” I told him, and Evelyn didn’t seem to care either as she didn’t pull away. Jake turned back around to the groupies.
“Don’t worry girls she’s my brothers twin so she’s family, and if I even tried with her Aiden would kill me, so you have no reason to worry. I’m still attainable.” He said with a wink and blew a kiss.…To whom I had no idea.
They used to try and talk to me, but I wasn’t interested. Now I was big news as I had a secret twin. They were probably wondering if she was as crazy as me, and I would be very pleased if she was. As we walked across to the office I could see Rick heading towards us. He was generally a nice guy. I spoke to him on occasion, but he was a big womaniser and I didn’t like the way he was looking at Evelyn. This wasn’t going to go down well.
Chapter 9
Aiden
Rick was now in front of Evelyn, looking her up and down. “Hey Aiden, who’s this?”
“My sister Evelyn.” I replied flatly.
“Oh, right yeah I heard about that yesterday. Hi Evelyn, I’m Rick lovely to meet you.” He said leering at her. I could feel her tensing up and she squeezed my hand hard.
“Hi Rick, nice to meet you too.” She said almost rudely. My sister was my dream woman. This was so unfair.
“Here, why don’t you come and meet the boys, they’d love to get a look at you.”
He was so close to getting punched in the face, but when Evelyn didn’t respond he grabbed her arm and pulled her. Before I could even react, she had punched him in the stomach and he doubled over.
“Don’t do that again.” She said staring him down.
“Well as you can see girls; Aiden doesn’t have to hurt me. She’ll just do it herself” Jake announced and started laughing.
I looked at her, but she was angry. I pulled her in to hug me and I could feel the disgust she felt, but it soon washed away as I held her. I let her go and took her hand again. I looked down at Rick. I could see the coach and other jocks running over.
“You ever touch her again I’ll kill you.” I said it loud enough that everyone around me could hear.
I pulled her away towards the office. I could hear the coach shouting at us to stop, but he was an idiot. I was taking her straight to the principal. She looked down at our joint hands.
“What’s wrong?” I asked.
“Our hands.” She whispered.
“What?” I didn’t think I heard her properly, but she obviously didn’t want me to know what she said. She just shrugged it off.
When we reached the office, they had lots of questions. Where was she all this time? Are we really siblings? Are we really twins? And how weird it was to see us together. Apparently, we resembled each other a lot. Then the principal called us into her office. We sat down.
“Hi Evelyn, it’s lovely to meet you, and were glad to have you here. This is your timetable, the halls can get a bit confusing, but you’re in all Aiden’s classes as instructed. Now I just had the coach contact me saying you attacked one of his best players. Looking at you now I’m surprised he even wanted to admit he was beaten by a girl your size. Can you tell me what happened?” I could see she was nervous by the way she was picking at her sleeves, so I put my hand over hers.
“Erm Rick I think his name was, he came over and told me all the boys would love to get a look at me. Then he grabbed my arm and pulled me, so I punched him in the stomach.” She said. The head looked shocked at how candid she was. I had to admit her violence was a massive turn on.
“We’ve got your record from your old school, and
it seems you’ve had a lot of problems with boys over the years. Never girls though. I would like to know because other than that your record is outstanding.” She said. I looked at Evelyn. She had mention not liking boys before but not that she had problems with them. “Would you like Aiden to step outside as we should to discuss this.” She asked her.
I wasn’t going anywhere.
“No, its fine, I get a lot of male attention. I don’t know why but they always seem to be drawn to me, and I don’t like it. My mother did defence training with me, so I could defend myself, but it wasn’t only attention from boys my age. It was older men as well, so I was taught to hit out hard. I had to be removed from some classes as teachers couldn’t concentrate while I was in the room.”
I couldn’t believe she was saying this. Teachers? Older men? No wonder she likes being alone. I felt so angry that she was basically punished because they couldn’t control themselves. I gathered it wasn’t all men. Only the weak ones, but then what did that make me?
“Thank you, Evelyn, for telling me and yes we do have all the information and police statements from your old school. I hope here will be different for you, and if anything happens or you think it will happen you come to me straight away, no matter how small.” She said. She didn’t have to worry. I wasn’t going to let her be alone with anybody.
As we left the office I heard someone call her name.
“Evelyn?” Said some guy standing behind her. “Evelyn you’re here! Caitlin told me you were coming to this school, but I didn’t think it would be this soon. I’m so sorry about your mom.” He said.
“Mathew! I'm so happy you’re here it’s been a hard few days adjusting. It’s nice to have a friend with me.” She smiled brightly at him. Ah the stalker and now I recognised him as the guy at her table in the restaurant.
“You look really well. I missed you. I wanted to call, but I just didn’t know what to say.” He said.
Missed her? She’s only been with us three days.
“You moved quicker than I did. Caitlin said you were coming.” The stalker wasn’t getting too close. I saw the bandage still on his ear and knew she had done that.
“Who’s this?” I asked Evelyn and I said it possessively. As I stepped forward next to her, he stepped back.
“Aiden this is my friend Mathew from back home. He’s just moved here, and Mathew this is my twin brother Aiden.” She said in a matter of fact way. I see relief wash over his face.
“Oh, hi Aiden I’m Matthew. Evelyn and I are good friends. It’s nice to meet you.” He was grinning. I just stared at him and I can see the relief disperse.
“Nice ear.” I smirked as I pulled Evelyn away to go to class.
She let me at first, but once we were out of view she stopped. “What the hell was that? He is my friend. What is wrong with you?”
“I thought you said you only had one friend?”
“I have a best friend yes, but Mathew is also my friend. The only male friend I have.”
“What? he’s a douche.” I replied to her.
“That’s none of your business. He’s my friend. I’ll do what I like with whomever I like.” Her voice was a higher pitch now.
“Is that not the guy you hit in the ear when he put his hands on you?” I demanded.
She looked away from me and folded her arms across her chest. “It wasn’t his fault.”
I laughed. “What you asked him to do it, then hit him for it?”
“Are you going to control who I talk to now?”
“If they harm you. I will kill them.” I said. I was trying to keep my composure, but it was slipping.
“He didn’t hurt me and why do you care who touches me?” She asked. I had to look away.
“Because you’re my sister and I’m supposed to protect you.” I said shakily.
“And what about when I meet someone, and I want their hands on me? Will you let them?” I think she was too angry to think about what she was asking me, but then it clicked, and I could see the horror forming on her face.
“We’ll just have to wait and see wont we.” I challenged her.
“Just stay out of my way Aiden.” She said looking around probably wondering where our class was.
I regretted the words before they came out.
“Or what? You’ll bust up my ear like Mathews.” I said as I walked off. I needed to get away. Her challenging me was far more enjoyable than I thought.
Evelyn
Arguing with him probably wasn’t a good idea as I realised I was lost. All the halls looked the same. I looked at my schedule. It was English room 201. Yeah well that wasn’t much help. I could still feel him close by. Whenever I moved he shadowed me. I should have just asked him, but I was too stubborn for that. I wasn’t going to give into him. He could follow me off a cliff for all I cared. After 20 minutes of searching I finally found the door. I knocked and waited for an answer but there was none, so I walked in. I could see the teacher was deep into a conversation with another student, so I waited. Everyone had turned to me and I was starting to feel a little uncomfortable. The teacher looked at me.
“And you are?” He asked.
As I was about to answer when I felt Aiden come up behind and wrap his arm around my shoulder. The whole class gasped. I wanted to punch him in the face.
“Sorry sir, my sister got a little lost. So, I went to find her.” He said.
I could feel him grinning, and when I turned to look at him he winked at me. Now I really wanted to punch him although I’d probably get in trouble. I elbowed him in the ribs, so no one could see. He didn’t even flinch, so I jabbed him harder.
“You can’t hurt me.” He whispered in my ear and it sent tingles down my body.
“Oh of course Evelyn! I’m so sorry. My name is Mr Hutchinson, but call me Mr H. Please take a seat and we’ll talk after class about catching up.” He said.
He gestured for me to take the seat at the back, which was unfortunate for me as Aiden was on my left side. Luckily Jake was on my right side, I was pleased I had someone I could actually talk to.
I sat down and put my bag on the floor. I turned and smiled at Jake.
“Yay you made it.” He whispered.
“Well I almost didn’t.” I replied.
I turned to look at Aiden. He winked at me and I stuck my middle finger up at him. He put his hand on his chest and pretended he was really offended. I couldn’t help but giggle. When I looked up I could see some people still staring at me.
“Ahem class. I’m sure you all want to stare at our new student, but she doesn’t want you staring at her so turn around and face the board.” He smiled and nodded at me.
He was young for a teacher; about 25 I thought and was a very good-looking guy. But I could already see the gleam in his eyes when he looked at me.
Jake turned to me. “I know what you’re thinking.”
“What?” I asked feeling embarrassed. I know that Aiden can hear everything Jake’s saying. But I also knew Jake would have it all wrong.
“You fancy him don’t ya?” Jake said. I went red but only because Aiden was looking at me now. “Ha I knew it! All the girls fancy him. I would too if I was a girl. Oh, Mr H you’re so sexy. Check my homework please.” He was actually pushing his invisible cleavage together and bending over as he said this.
“Jake what are you doing?” Mr H said looking very confused at him, and that was it. I thought I’d die from laughing. Even Mr H looked amused. Jake didn’t care though. He was still holding his invisible cleavage.
“Ah sorry sir, I got cramp in my arms doing all those weights you know.” He started stretching out his arms very dramatically.
“Yes, you look very masculine.” Mr H joked, turning back to the board.
Jake was right, he was nice to look at. He was very slim, almost skinny, and tall. He had kind eyes with messy brownish hair flopping down his forehead. He wore black rimmed glasses that suited him. When he smiled his whole face lit up, and the class seemed to respec
t him. He had an energy about him that you don’t normally get with high school teachers. I knew I was going to like this class. I just sat and listened to him reading quotes from Romeo and Juliet. That’s when he started asking the class questions that I didn’t want to acknowledge.
“So, can someone tell me what the book is about?” Mr H asked.
Someone put their hand up and answered. “It’s about a forbidden love.”
My stomach flipped, and I could see Aiden shifting in his chair.
“Yes!” Mr H said very excitedly. “They weren’t allowed to be together, but their passion and love overcame the hate of their families.”
He turned to the board and started writing, and then he turned to Aiden. “Aiden as ever, never willing to contribute even though you give the most interesting answers. So, tell me. Do you think it was the temptation of taboo that started this romance?” The teacher waited eagerly.
“Well when you want something you can’t have you want it more, but he must have been attracted to her in the first place. It fuelled their lust, but it wasn’t what started the romance.” Aiden said, and the teacher seemed pleased with his response.
He spent the rest of the lesson looking down at the desk. Jake spent it making funny faces at him, which made me giggle a lot. Mr H dismissed the class for lunch. I went up to his desk as he wanted to see me. He told me to take a seat at his desk as he was wiping the board. Once everyone had left he turned to me. He was about to say something when he looked behind me, and of course Aiden was there waiting patiently.
“Aiden you’re dismissed you can leave.” Mr H said to him.
“Not without her.” Aiden said calmly.
“Ok it’s fine with me. Evelyn are you OK with this?” The teacher asked me.
“Yeah I’m used to it.” I replied a little exasperated.
“Ok well I’ve got all your coursework from your old school, and I have to say reading your work was a pleasure. You’re a very accomplished young lady, but I read one of the police reports that was sent over and it was troubling. So was what happened with Rick. I think we should discuss this incident involving a Mitch Jones? Are you happy to tell me what happened? We all just want to make sure your safe here.” He said, but with Aiden up my arse I figured I wouldn’t have the same trouble here.
