The Trouble With Two Alpha's Page 17

“Not so far. I left Watson outside to keep an eye out for them.” Elliot had left two wolves outside in case any of the other pack should show up.

Alpha Redwood had also followed her scent to the road and realized someone had picked her up. He was fuming mad. He sent his pack out in all directions to search for her. Then it dawned on him that if she went back to her house, she would have realized her car was gone. If she realized that he had her car and she wanted to leave town she might take the bus or a plane. There was no train in town.

Gabi seen Mr. Walker headed her way. He had a ticket in his hands. She walked toward him. That is when she saw Elliot out of the corner of her eye.

When Mr. Walker stopped in front of her, she leaned into whisper in his ear. He thought she was going to give him a kiss on the cheek and thank him.

“Mr. Walker we have to leave and fast. There is a man here already for me. He is watching me now. I want you to go out and get the car. Can you bring it to the front door? Just nod. Thank you. I am going to pretend to use the bathroom and hope I can sneak out the window. I will run for the car. Be ready to go as fast as you can. I am so sorry for all the trouble. I will pay you for all your trouble.”

“I just want you to be safe. I’ll hurry out front. Stay safe child.” He rushed out the front and to his car. He made it to the front area of the airport where people unloaded passengers in a matter of minutes.

Gabi slowly walked to the bathroom, then went inside. She rushed to the window. It had glass strips about two inches wide like some kind of blinds. She quickly removed them, then had to kick out a metal screen. She was out of the bathroom in seconds. Then had to run around the side of the airport and to the front to get to Mr. Walker’ car.

“You made it.” Mr. Walker had his doubts she would make it. So did Gabi. Just as they were pulling out of the airport, she saw Jack’s truck pulling in. She ducked in the front seat hoping he hadn’t seen her.

Jack could have sworn he saw Gabi in an old station wagon leaving the airport. He picked up his phone and dialed Elliot. Elliot had just figured out Gabi had given him the slip and was running out the front door of the airport.

“She’s gone.” Was all he said when he picked up the phone. He heard the growl on the other end of the phone. “What the hell happened?”

“She went into the bathroom, then took the window apart and slipped out it. I didn’t think she could get out the window. I called Watson and he said they didn’t see her come out. He is driving around the parking lot looking for her now.”

“Tell him not to bother I just seen her leaving in a brown station wagon. They’re headed back toward town.” Elliot heard the screeching of tires as he ran for his SUV.

The Redwood pack had already checked the bus station and was now pulling into the airport as they seen the Blackwood pack racing out. Three black SUV’s and a big Black four door pickup truck flew by them. He recognized the Driver of the truck as Alpha Blackwood.

He called his pack and told them to follow the convoy. That they must have seen her. It must have been a sight to anyone watching as nine vehicles raced down the highway after who knew what.

Gabi had heard the tires screech on the pavement and knew Jack had seen her. She told Mr. Walker to hurry up and get off at the next exit. Then to let her out at the park. She asks him to get back on the highway and try to lead them away after letting her out.

If they caught up to him and she wasn’t in the car they wouldn’t do anything to him surely. He could say she got out anywhere along the way and they would go back and let him go. At least she hoped.

Meantime, her phone started ringing off the wall. She knew who it would be. She looked at the screen anyway. Jack, Elliot and then Miles Redwood. She hadn’t even realized Miles had her number. Then Brett and even Irwin were calling.

“I take it you’re not going to answer it. That it is the people you’re running from?” Mr. Walker asks it as a question, but he already knew the answer.

“I don’t know what to do. They won’t leave me alone. They’re all crazy. They think they’re… they think they are werewolves and I am their mate. Do you believe in werewolves Mr. walker? I don’t.”

“There are two Alpha’s, so they say from two different packs trying to tell me I am what they call their mate. That is who I am running from. It’s crazy. I sound crazy. Please don’t think that I believe in werewolves because I don’t. That is why I couldn’t go to the police they would lock me up. Not the men chasing me.” She couldn’t believe she had told him.

Mr. Walker looked at her then turned away. Oh God, he thought what have I gotten involved in? He knew wolves were real. He knew he shouldn’t be in the middle of a war between Alpha’s. Especially if this was one of their mates. Now he was shaking. If they caught him, they would kill him.

“Gabi, I think I need to let you out as soon as possible. I tried to help you but now I need to get as far away from you as possible before they come after me and my family. If I had known the truth, I wouldn’t have helped you. I wouldn’t have put my family in danger like this. I’m sorry for what you’re going through, but really this is too much to ask another person to get involved in.”

He took the next exit he came to, which was an exit to the City gardens and park. He drove to the front entrance stopped and she got out. He barely let her get her purse then he was gone.

“Well, that was weird. I get the feeling he is afraid of werewolves. Has everybody lost their freaking minds? Am I the only one who knows werewolves can’t possibly be real?”

  Chapter 20

Jack had been back a little ways when he saw the station wagon pull off the highway. He was able to take the exit in time and follow the car. He watched as the car stopped and Gabi got out. Then the car pulled away in a hurry. Good, he thought.

Gabi looked up in time to see a line of vehicles coming straight at her. Jack in the front one. She took off running into the park. She heard tires screeching to a halt. She knew they had all found her.

She ran far back into the park away from people. She didn’t want anyone to get hurt. Least of all herself. Looking around there was no place to hide. Nowhere else to run to. Now what, she wondered.

Finally, she just stopped running. She sat on a picnic table under a shade tree and caught her breath waiting for them to surround her. What else could she do.

Jack was there with his pack on one side. Miles and his pack on the other side. Each closing in on her. She stood up on the seat of the picnic table and stared down at them.

Jack was as handsome as ever. That mischievous smile on his face. The look in his eyes that said she was his. Then on the other side the newcomer what had he said his name was Miles Redwood? He was pretty handsome himself. Damn, what was a woman to do. Two very gorgeous men, no not men, wolves wanting her for themselves. The two men she had witnessed turn into very large wolves.

She guessed she couldn’t deny it any longer she had seen them go from men to wolves in two seconds flat. She put out her hands to stop their advancements.

“Now look here, the way I see it you all seem to think I belong to you. Seem to think your werewolves. Well, ok after what I saw back there in his office (pointing at Miles) I guess I will have to agree to that much. However, that doesn’t mean I am ready to be owned. Now why don’t we sit down and talk about this. Sit down without the lot of them. (Pointing to the packs all the way around her.

“Jack you sit across from me and you too. What was your name Miles was it? Yes, you too sit across from me, let’s talk about this. Calmly and rationally. Otherwise, I am going to run off again and again. I will not be forced to live where I don’t want to. I will not stay with anyone till I truly understand this, this whatever this is. Now I have a lot of questions and you have the answers I suppose. So either sit and talk to me or leave me be!” She was practically yelling at them.

Jack nodded for his pack to back off. They moved back a few hundred feet but kept watch. Miles did the same. Elliot p
aced the ground as he kept the situation in sight. Irwin didn’t like it one bit being kept so far from them.

Jack and Miles sat on opposite ends of the bench across from her. But both wolves kept her in their sight ready to jump in case she tried to run.

“Gabi, love, please ask anything you want. I will be more than happy to answer your questions. You know how much you mean to me.” Jack tried to reach out and hold her hand. Gabi pulled her hand back and placed her hands on her lap under the table.

Miles watched the way the two of them acted around each other. It was clear they had known each other before. But it was also clear she hadn’t accepted him as her mate yet.

“Gabi, I know we haven’t had much time to get to know one another, but when I touched you in my study today you felt it. Didn’t you? Felt how the heat rose between us. How my touch sent waves of energy through your body. How my touch burned your soul. That was because we are meant to be together. Please ask anything you need to in order to make sense of this.” Miles smiled at her.

“I don’t think any of this will ever make sense to me. But first explain to me how it is that you can go from being a man, to being a wolf?”

It was Miles who spoke first. “A long time ago a witch put a spell on our ancestors. Seems she had been dating a man who she thought was faithful to her only to find him in bed with a maid. That made her angry and she cast a spell on him. She said if he wanted to act like an animal, then so shall he be one. At least part time. Nobody knows for sure how or when it happened. That is just the story handed down from generation to generation. All we really know is there must be some kind of magic to it. How else would you explain it?” She wouldn’t even begin to try.

“Ok, so maybe that is an answer. Why do books say you can only turn on a full moon?” She wondered because it hadn’t been a full moon. In fact, it had been daylight when they had shifted in his study.

“If we let all our secrets be known then humans would know how to hunt us down and kill us. Humans are a strange lot. If something is different from them, then they must kill it, no questions ask.” Jack answered her.

True, she thought. “Ok, so tell me why do you think I am this mate thing you keep talking about? And just what is a mate? I don’t understand any of that talk.” She looked from one of them to the other.

“A mate is like the other half of our soul. Our wolf can recognize when we have found her by her scent usually. Sometimes it is by touch or taste. We are drawn to her like a bug to a light at night. We can’t stay away from her. She is the air we breathe. Like the water we drink. She is like nothing we have ever tasted before. We can’t live without her. She is our everything. Once we have found her, we will do anything and everything to protect her and to provide for her. She is the most important thing in the world, in our world to us. Why if you were to walk away from us now our wolf would die trying to find you. If something happened to you, we would die without you. We couldn’t go on without you by our side.” Jack was being a little over dramatic Gabi thought.

“What he is telling you is the truth Gabi. What is confusing is that two wolves think you’re their mate. That usually doesn’t happen. Mother nature gives each wolf a mate. However, that being said, it is a very rare thing that we find our true soul mate. We wander the earth in search of our mate our whole life. But only a few lucky wolves ever find their destined mate. I knew the minute you walked into the casino you belonged to my wolf. I didn’t even have to get close to you. My wolf was trying to get loose the minute we laid eyes on you.” He smiled at her. “I have never fought to control my wolf so hard in my life. It was like the wolf in me was going to go crazy if he didn’t get loose to run to you. He needed to be there beside you to protect you against all those men in the casino. By the way, that was also why you kept getting promoted. I just couldn’t stand watching men drooling over you.”

“That would explain the little office where no one ever came around me. I will have you know I hated that. I need to be around people and have someone to talk to. So that brings me to another question. If a wolf finds his mate does that means she is never allowed to be near anyone, because I have got to tell you I am not the type of person who can live without contact.”

“We don’t like other males around our mates. Once you are mated you will wear the mark of your mate. That is like a warning to other males to stay back. You will also wear the scent of your mate. Other males will be able to smell your mates’ scent and tell that they should stay back. We kill to protect our mate.” It was Miles that answered her.

“So you’re saying if I was to be with one of you that I would never be able to talk to another male again? Not even as a friend?”

“No, that is not what I am saying. You wouldn’t be able to be close to them. They couldn’t hug you. They couldn’t touch you in anyway. Couldn’t come within a few feet of you.” Miles replied.

“They wouldn’t want to be in a room alone with you.” Growled Jack. His hands fisted on the table.

“In other words, you’re control freaks. You would treat me like you owned me. You would tell me who I could be friends with. Who I could talk to. Who I could see, and so on.” She was on her feet. They jumped to their feet thinking she was about to run.

“Oh, sit down. I need to think. I don’t like to be controlled. I won’t be told who I can or can’t be friends with. How is it going to work if you both think I belong to you? Not that I am convinced of that myself.” She said.

“This is a very interesting situation. One I have never seen before. Never even heard of before. I don’t think I know any wolf that has two mates.” Miles stared off into space like he was trying to think of one wolf with two mates.

Jack stepped around the table and pulled her into his arms. He lifted her chin, so she was looking up at him. Oh, how he had missed her. Missed those beautiful eyes.

“Foul, I thought we agreed you would stay behind the table and give me breathing room. Give me time to think and ask my questions. Jack…”

His lips closed on hers. She tried to push him away, well, sort of. Then her fingers tightened into a fist around his shirt. She was kissing him back.

Miles growled and moved around the table to pull him away from her. He pushed Gabi behind him, then growled louder at Jack. “If you pull a stunt like that again, I will rip your head off right here.”

Gabi moved in front of Miles and placed a hand on each of their chests to push them apart. “Please stop this. I can’t think with you two at each other’s throats. Miles, Jack didn’t mean anything by it. Jack go sit down.” To make things fair, she laid her head on Miles chest. He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her closer to him.

It felt so good to hold her in his arms. She was right where she belonged. Then she had to go and move back from him. He didn’t like that. Damn, that Alpha he wanted to tear him to tiny little pieces and bury them.

“Miles, Jack, I don’t know what to do. I have to believe what I saw was real otherwise someone is going to lock me in a room somewhere and throw away the key. I know even if I don’t want to admit it, that I saw men turn into giant wolves. I also know when either one of you touch me, I feel this odd burning electrical sensation run through my body. One I can’t seem to deny. I don’t know if that means I’m this mate thing you talk about or not. What to do about all of this is the question. I know Jack I have been thinking about you and missing you something awful. Every time I thought about you, I wanted to cry. I felt like I was dying inside.” She felt tears sliding down her face as she spoke.

Jack was pulling her into his arms again. Miles was growling. Gabi reached back and put her hand on his chest to shush him.

  Jack stood back a foot.

“Gabi I couldn’t stop till I found you. I wouldn’t stop till I found you. My wolf was going crazy trying to find you to make sure our mate was safe. We need you. We need to protect you. I need to be able to see you and touch you ever day.”

“So do I, now that I have found her. S
he is my mate too!” Miles wanted that to be made clear. He turned Gabi to make sure she was looking at him. “Gabi, I know we haven’t been alone yet or gotten to know one another, but my wolf feels very strongly about you. I feel strongly that you and I are supposed to be together all the time. I can’t stand it when I can’t see you.”

“The question is what do we do now? I assume that two Alpha wolves can’t live together. Yet you can’t cut me down the middle so I can live with both of you.”

“No, that we certainly can’t do.” Miles agreed. He reached down and lifted her chin to look into her eyes. “I want to get to know you better. I want to spend time with you alone. I want us to be able to mate. I want you to wear my mark. Yet I know you don’t understand what I am talking about. I need you to understand everything about my kind before I mark you. It will mean so much more if you are willing to accept me as your mate.” Miles wanted to kiss her so bad but wasn’t sure how she would take his advances.

“Gabi, I have tried all along to get you to accept me for what I am. I might not have gone about it the right way. I however didn’t force you to mate with me. I was trying to give you time to get used to the fact that I am a werewolf.” Jack told her.

“You were just so overbearing. You were always in my face. Jack you didn’t give me a chance to come to terms with anything. That is why I had to leave. In my world, werewolves don’t exist. It’s just not possible in my mind for men to turn into animals. Into big beautiful wolves.” She shook her head like she was still trying to push the idea out of her head.

“I know now that everything I have ever heard was a lie. Things I read or saw in the movies were all lies. Werewolves really do exists. I still can’t say I believe.” Gabi walked a few feet away from both men. Werewolves.

Jack looked at Miles and Miles stared at Jack. Just how were they supposed to work this out? There was no way two Alpha’s could live in the same house. It just wouldn’t work they would end up killing one another. If one of them had to watch the other one touching their mate… no way would it work. Nope, not going to happen.
