Chapter 36
Vorn sleeps unaware of all that has transpired.
Free at last Anya steps close and looks down at him, knowing she must say goodbye but dreading it. “If I ask you to go with me, would you?” she wonders. Dropping to her knees she presses a kiss to his lips, gently tasting him and saying goodbye.
His hand wraps around her neck as he takes her mouth in a searing kiss, claiming her and marking her. “You only have to ask, Anya,” he promises.
Anya smiles, “It will be dangerous, Vorn. It’s never been done before.”
“Dance with me Herald and together we will see where this leads.” The gate opens behind her, glowing and daring them to try it. It seals behind the laughing couple as they leap together into the unknown.
Epilogue
Evolution is never without its casualties. Though they worked hard, the Angels did not catch all of the creatures. Some, like Brody, remain forever changed, a new species with new abilities. The Guild members work with the Fae and discover a way to trap the violent Pex, but things on Earth will never be the same. It is an all new world and humanity is no longer the “top dog.” Katie smiles at Morgan as he works with the Fae to train them, should a new war start.
She thinks of Anya often and wonders where she is, in the vast expanse of space and time. The Herald left, leaving them to deal with the new realities on Earth. Humanity learned of the immortals but soon as with all great tales, it faded from memory and into legend. Through it all, those who call this planet home are fighting to balance the scales and learning to live together. Only time will tell if The Herald will return, but those who know and love her, hope.
