I could only sit there wondering who had poisoned both Hunter and Stacie Childs. Schlep was correct. I was out a client and knowing how the family operated, I suspected the investigation into the deaths would be stalled, at best. I suspected that is why Claudia Childs invited me to what she would call the wrap up of this tragic lethal trust.
CHAPTER SIXTY-ONE
I HAD NO WORD FROM the love of my life. I knew he was alive. Somewhere. I would find him.
Breecie continued to see Bibbione. It challenged me, to say the least, but that girl was happy. That worked for me. And damned be me, I liked this bastard of a mafia man. I withheld all judgments, and Bibbione would continue to help me find my man.
His black SUVs continued with their presence watching over us. Not such a bad thing. The man had saved my life and he looked over both me and Breecie. Free bodyguards.
I was so glad to have my old friend back in my life. My sixth sense. I knew why Breecie wanted to meet me for morning coffee out at the pool.
“I’m going to be moving in with Tony,” she said.
With great pause, I said, “I’ll suggest only one thing. Keep your home here for you for as long as you want. It may be a great sanctuary for you. If you find yourself settled in your new life, then I’ll buy it back from you.”
Breecie took a long pull on her coffee. No Irish cream, this time.
“I understand your grave concerns,” she said.
“You think? I shall imagine Bibbione will be keeping you busy as your only client.”
“Cassie, his number one assignment is for me to nail Isidora Childs. She’s behind the surge in deaths. And, you need to know, it’s not about the competition. Tony is appalled by her practices.
“I could use a good private investigator going after her.”
I demonstratively kicked the side of my packed suitcase and said, “I’m not sure if that will happen. I’ll meditate upon it. For now, I have other plans.”
“Where are you going?”
“To Ibiza. I know. I know my man is still alive. I’m going to find him and bring him home.”
Who knows who my next guest might be?
Oh, and there was new police chief in town, and she would adore me.
I knew it!
