  Chapter One

Marci moved through the old home of Christopher Lerado, once head of the Northern Vampire Clan, but now truly dead. Only two people knew she roamed the ancient tunnels, Allie and Whitney and right now both of them were distracting Whitney’s mates and friends so she could hide again. It had been close, too close for her. Garth and his brothers knew she was near, but couldn’t find her. She wasn’t ready for them to find her, yet. Maybe someday she would have the courage to face her mates, but not today.

The air was damp, the old cement walls were cool to the touch and the dirt floor all reminded her of the ruins she used to play in in Mexico, so long ago as a child. Marci could still remember the old bathhouse six floors beneath the Mayan ruins, her favorite place to escape from the royal hubbub of society. Of course, her mother would always find her, calling her, “my little fish.”

She smiled, feeling a pain in her heart so deep Marci didn’t know if it would ever heal. “I’ll find them Momma. They’ll pay for hurting us.”

“You okay, honey?” Allie asked, appearing next to her. Marci jumped and grabbed her chest. “Damn girl, don’t do that to me!” She took a deep breath and moved to the tunnel where she and Allie had a room. “I’m fine. Thanks for asking. I was just remembering.”

Allie nodded, moved to the door and opened it. “You know Whitney might be right about the part that’s coming up. It might be a good time to search for those that killed your mom.” Allie plopped down on the bed and stared at her.

“It’s been so long, Allie, since I’ve been there, and if I go, you know I’m going to have to deal with Garth and his brothers. Then am I ready to reveal all, Allie?” Marci let the magic disappear and walked to the small window in the tower that overlooked the courtyard.

Garth stood by the fountain looking up at the sky, alone. “I know you’re here, mon amour, and I’ll wait for however long I have to.” His words were a whisper, but she heard them all the same through the small hole in the window. His long black hair blew in the wind, he wore no shirt and the muscles rippled across his chest as he walked around the fountain. The tight black leather pants outlined his body perfectly.

Allie stepped up to the window and nodded to him. “He’s gorgeous, Marci. How can you not want to go to him? Don’t you think he would help you find the ones who hurt you and your family?”

“I know he would, all of them would, but the problem isn’t him, it’s me. I don’t know if I’m ready to face that kind of life again, always looking over your shoulder, wondering who is going to try and kill you next. I can still see my father always checking and securing the area before I was allowed to play. I don’t want my children to live in fear, I want what we had with Whitney’s parents.”

Her friend hugged her, and she sighed. “I know what you mean, but maybe with that legend coming true about Frank, things could be different. Don’t you think you owe it to yourself and to them? Go talk to him, alone. His brothers left with Frank to track someone down.”

Marci glanced down at fabric of the black summer dress she wore, and sighed. “I’ll talk to him, but Allie, I’m not ready.” Marci covered the tattoo on her face and quietly made her way down to the courtyard through the small tunnel, careful Garth wouldn’t know from where she had come.

She moved around to the other side of the fountain. The moon was full and bright. “It’s not you or your brothers Garth, it’s me. I’m not ready, but soon.” Marci stepped out into the moonlight and he turned his dark gaze upon her and scanned her from head to toe.

“You’re scared; I can smell it from here. We won’t hurt you Marci; we only want to love you.” He carefully moved toward her, afraid she would flee.

“The night is beautiful, isn’t it? I didn’t think this old home would be so interesting. It reminds me of my home long ago when I was a child.” She changed the subject and strolled up to the fountain, sitting on the edge and running her hand in the cool water.

“I used to play in this old bath house when I was small. My mom always called me her little fish, because I hated to get out of the water.” He moved, sitting down in front of her.

“You don’t look like a fish, but I bet your mother loved watching her little princess play.” He reached up and brushed a piece of her hair away from her face.

Marci glanced up at him, the words he said were to close to the truth. “Why would you use those words?” His scent was masculine: woodsy, and spice wrapped around her and Marci knew it was only a matter of time before she allowed their claim.

Garth took her hand and kissed her knuckles. “Doesn’t every mother call their daughter, princess? Why are you so afraid of us?”

She laughed and leaned forward. “Think much of yourself, dear Sir? I’m not afraid of you. I’m leery of the situation itself, Garth.” Marci pulled away from him and stood, moving towards the high gate staring out at the city below.

“You and your brothers are important to our people, whom I knew nothing about until recently. Sure I remember bits and pieces from when I was a child, but things have changed. Do I even want to go back into that world and risk being hurt again by it when I have a new family?”

His scent reached her first and Marci knew he was behind her. Garth’s arms slid around her, his warm hard body pressed against her back. “Many things have changed since you were around our people. I’m not saying there aren’t some who wish for the old ways, but those are gone for good, I’m afraid. Your friend’s mate, Frank, has set into motion that which will hopefully bring peace among our races. That does not mean the humans are ready to know about us, but if we can all come together peacefully, we might be able to join the human race one day.”

She leaned back and glanced up at him. “Do you really believe humans would accept us?” Marci shook her head. “I don’t see it, Garth. Too many of them would be terrified of us and hunt us. As it is, we are hunted by our own. I don’t need human’s hunting me, too.”

Garth’s large hands slid up and cupped her breasts. He kissed her neck and ran his thumbs over her nipples. “It will take time, I’m not saying this decade, but soon enough the fighting will stop among our own. Who hunts you Marci? Whoever is your enemy is ours.” His cock swelled against her back, as a small moan slipped out of her mouth when he squeezed her nipples.

“I have many enemies, Garth, and you have to stop. I can’t do this now.” She turned in his arms which was a big mistake and got lost in his deep green eyes. “In time you will understand, I promise, but for now…” Marci glanced down at the ground breaking the instant contact, but he tilted her head up with his fingers under her chin.

Garth lowered his head and Marci knew she was in trouble, but craved his warmth and taste. He lips covered hers, Marci opened her mouth to Garth’s invading tongue, her a
rms slid up his warm hard back and squeezed, her nails digging into his lower shoulder muscles.

He brought his hand up and circled her neck, holding her still while he devoured her mouth, dipping her body down. Their tongues made love as her body wanted to do, but her heart was too scared to let them in.

His other hand slipped into the front of her dress and he pulled out her breast. She broke the kiss and rose, but he held her tight in his arms. “Let me taste you, Marci,” he whispered around her breast, sucking the nipple into his mouth. Garth’s dark eyes held hers while he sucked her nipple to the top of his mouth.

Marci moaned and stared up at the stars while his sharp teeth nipped at her nipple. “So beautiful.” He released her nipple. “I can smell your need, Marci, let me ease it for you.” The hand that had held her breast moved up her leg now. Under her dress, he traced his fingers along the outer edge of her panties which were now soaked.

“So wet, and all for me.” Two fingers slipped under her panties and into her pussy at the same time he once again grabbed onto her breast and bit down on her nipple.

“Garth!” Marci grabbed onto his hair and yanked, but he held on, pumping his fingers in and out of her. His thumb circled her clit, pushing a third finger into her pussy.

“So nice and wet.” His gaze broke hers and he glanced down at his hand as it fucked her pussy. “I can hear your pussy sucking my fingers.” Garth moved her up along the brick wall, placing her back against it and lowered to his knees in front of her, all the while holding her weight in his hands, his fingers still in her pussy. “I need a taste. Come on my face, Marci.”

He placed her legs on his shoulders and buried his face into her pussy, his tongue moved in and out of her pussy with his fingers.

“Garth, my God!” Her toes curled, Marci banged her head against the wall and she grabbed at his hair. Two of his wet fingers slid down to her ass and slid past her tight ring.

Garth ate her pussy as if starved, while he finger-fucked her ass. It had been a while and Marci couldn’t control her body.

Only a few minutes more and…

“Garth, you out here?” A woman’s voice asked, breaking the sexual heat he had created. Marci snarled and yanked her body away from him, pulling her dress down.

She stared into his furious gaze, her heart breaking, her body needing his, but Marci denied it. “Yes, Garth is out here.” Marci said in a whisper, as a single tear slipped down her cheek.

“Maybe one day, but for now enjoy what I can’t give you.” Marci nodded to the woman who stepped into the courtyard and then disappeared into the bushes around the house.

Garth snarled and turned to the woman who entered the courtyard. “I told you I wanted nothing to do with you. I have a mate.”

  Chapter Two

Marci could still hear Garth’s growl as he searched for her and didn’t find her. She had hidden herself and her scent from him knowing she needed time to deal with the past. It had taken her two and half months to come to terms with the past, her sister Allie helping her when she needed it.

Garth and his brothers had flown back to Mexico one month later to prepare for this party. Who knew that her search would bring her full circle? Back into her mates’ arms, but Marci wasn’t about to give up on trying to find the men that who had murdered her mother. It was the least she could do since she had no idea who had murdered her father so long ago.

Latin music swirled around the large ballroom as if it had life itself. Candles and torches lit up the dark tunnels into the main room, beneath the Mayan Ruins, while gems embedded into the cavern walls sparkled and illuminated the arena with different colors. She was home, but yet it felt different, like another lifetime ago.

The aroma of grilled meat teased Marci, while she stayed hid-den among the guests. With Allie at her side, both of them searched the room for their sister and friend, Whitney. Allie squeezed her hand, reassuring her. “You know they are here Allie; I can feel them.” Marci turned to Allie. “You remember what they look like, right? If you spot them, you’ll tell Frank. I don’t want you messing with them by yourself. I won’t lose you too.”

Allie laughed. “Honey, you aren’t going to lose me, and don’ forget who taught you to throw knives and how to wield the whip? I can take care of myself, but if it makes you relax, I’ll tell him.

Now, the same goes for you, lady. If you see the two of them, I expect you to inform us so we can handle this together.” Allie glanced down at her, since she stood over six feet tall.

“Yes mom.” Marci nudged her with her shoulder. “You might be older by a few months, but don’t forget I will always be there for you, Allie. I won’t leave you.”

Allie sighed and hugged her. “Enough of this heavy stuff, you are to be hunted here soon. Are you ready for the mating/hunting thing, whatever you call it?”

Marci laughed and stepped back. “I’ve never been more ready. Coming home and being here in this place I used to roam as a child and seeing Garth and his brothers here makes me feel like a piece of me that was missing is back.”

Species of all kinds mingled, dressed in their costumes, hiding their identity until midnight. This was the one day of the year anyone could roam the Earth and not be stopped for being different, Hollow’s Eve. Marci’s hair, now a deep red with blond high-lights in it, twisted in curls all the way down to her ass, while a single white gardenia rested by her right ear. Marci held her grin inside, it was up to the Metathis brothers to change the position of her flower. Tonight the mating game of their kind would start. Only Whitney and Allie knew what she wore.

Marci and Allie moved inside the large ballroom to the left. Small balcony openings were all around the dance floor. People mingled and talked while the music danced all around them. Allie tapped her arm and nodded towards the large balcony that over-looked the dance floor. Garth, Turck, Snaid, Maddock, and Rafe all stood at the railing, dressed in their natural state. They were only covered in a loincloth wrapped around their waist, hiding what she couldn’t wait to see and taste. Garth’s long black hair was pulled back into a braid, and his muscles rippled across his chest when he turned to smile at Whitney, who patted him on the arm and whispered into his ear.

Marci took a deep breath and smiled, remembering his scent and the feel of his arms around her. Yes, it was time to join with her mates.

Allie patted Marci’s arm knowing that it was time for the game to begin. As a Gargoyle, the female of their kind could cover her scent easily, making it impossible for any males to track her. Marci’s nipples hardened in the long white evening gown she wore. A white and red Venetian mask covered part of her face, while she wore five inch, white Michael Antonio pumps to match her outfit, one of her favorite pairs.

The white evening gown that covered her body had slits up both sides, showing off her long legs. The silk moved over her naked flesh whenever she moved, exposing small portions of her hid-den treasures. The only jewelry she wore was a Demantoid locket that was her mother’s, the only thing she had left of her family, and small gold hoops in her nipples, which anyone could see outlined in her dress right now.

Garth’s gaze narrowed casting a quick look at the crowd below before he turned his attention back to Whitney and Frank, who had moved up to the middle of the balcony. Allie laughed. “Well it seems Frank is playing along too. This is going to be fun watching.”

All five men moved closer to the stone railings glancing at the crowd below. There had to be over two thousand strong around the Mayan Ruins, in its tunnels, and the grand ballroom, hidden from human eyes.

Turck raised his hand and trumpets sounded filing the room. All guests gazed up at the five brothers and Frank.

Frank gazed out at the crowd and smiled. “Good evening everyone. As most of you know my name is Frank Stein and I’m here as an honored guest of the Metathis brothers. However, I come tonight not emptied handed, I announce the most precious gift to these fine brothers and my dear friends who have hosted this year’s event.” A
ll five brothers glanced at Frank, then back at Whitney, who grinned from ear to ear.

“Tonight’s festivities will also be our humble hosts’ Claiming Quest. Among you is hidden their mate. Will they find her and claim her tonight?” Frank glanced at Garth and laughed, slapping him on the back.

“Yes, my dear friend she is here and ready. Marci has put forth the old rules, challenging each one of you. You have until the stroke of Midnight to find her, subdue and claim her. She did tell Whitney to inform you if you didn’t find her, Marci would find someone else tonight, to entertain her.” A challenge Marci knew would get their blood boiling at the thought of another man touching what was rightfully theirs.

Garth leaned over the balcony, his eyes blazing with heat, the muscles in his arms rippled and his lip curled up to expose his incisors. “My brothers and I accept the challenge, but also add some-thing else to it.” His deep growl sent a shiver down her spine and a single drop of her juices rolled down her bare leg.

“When we find you, and we will find you Marci, our claiming will be public. There will be no hiding, you will be claimed anyway we want to, and everyone will watch. No one will every question our bond with you, you will be our Queen.” Garth stood straight and grinned at his brothers who nodded.

“Let the hunt begin!” Garth shouted. All five men jumped from the balcony and landed, facing in different directions on the ground floor.

“Damn girl, you’re in trouble big time.” Allie grinned and hugged her. “Go on, I’m going to join Whitney, and watch from above for a little while.”

Marci nodded and turned casually strolling toward the grill. She needed to eat before the real fun begun. She knew they wouldn’t find her without clues and her first one would be given to Garth, when she was ready.

  * * *

Garth moved through the crowd of people, men clapped him on the back, woman grinned, and sometimes blushed knowing what they planned. His cock was hard, the beast ready to claim his mate, and the man couldn’t wait to tan her hide for taking off in the first place. That night in the courtyard she had seemed so sad and beautiful. All he had wanted to do was hold her, but again she had slipped away from him.
