"What will happen to them?"
She thought after a few seconds.
"Probably they'll be analyzed down in smallest detail and then I could imagine that they were returned to Russia. After all, it is their treasures. "
Jonathan shrugged. He had no problems with that. The Fabergé-eggs were some of the most beautiful art objects ever created and he had been returning them from Ariks greedy hands.
"Yes, they are."
Marie pulled her finger down the screen and the text scrolled past.
"And they haven't found Melissa's body. They have searched that part of the sea where she disappeared with a small comb, but she is gone. "
Jonathan's stomach turned into a hard knot when Marie mentioned Melissa's name. He had been there when Umbra shot her and when he heard her name he saw in his mind how Melissa had been thrown back by the power of the bullet. Jonathan could still hear the splash when her body hit the water surface. He and David had tried to save her, but it had been futile. He found that he was staring at his hands that trembled when he relived the events out on the sea off the coast of Lima.
Images of Umbra flickered past when he remembered the fight against her at Helder Ster.
Jonathan had injured her during their fight but probably she had survived. It had raised some questions during the investigation but as it turned out, even Arik had survived, and he had managed to keep most of the events under wraps. Jonathan shook incredulously on his head when he read a report that seemed to clear both Arik and Umbra from liability. He reminded himself that he had to talk to Backmann how to deal with it. The outcome of this mission could potentially seem to give some challenges in the future.
The space authorities had been strengthened from the cooperation and they had come together and created a global space agency that would have an overall responsibility for the exploration of the solar system. They had already confirmed that the terraforming-machines on the moon and Mars were active, probably also on other celestial bodies in the solar system. Exactly what it meant was still too soon to say. How the terraforming process meant, was still largely unknown. The researchers had some theories, but it would take years of investigation before they were confirmed.
He shook his head to clear his mind. Marie took his hands and Jonathan was filled with warmth and confidence for the future.
