  She sat up. “I thought—”

“You thought wrong.” He slipped into the bed next to her, and wrapped his arms around her. “The night is still young…”

  Chapter Fourteen

José woke up first, his arms wrapped around Jewel’s waist as he spooned her ass. He wasn’t the cuddling type, but with Jewel it was different. He couldn’t just hit it and leave her room. Gently, he inched up, kissing her neck, before twisting around and sitting up. As his feet hit the hardwood floor, he looked at the two condoms he’d tossed there, and chuckled. Damn, he still had it. They’d had sex three times, and every time felt like the first. He didn’t know where all that come had come from. Maybe it had been the five months he’d gone without sex, trying to please Connie.

He stood and went into the bathroom. After a quick piss, as he washed his hands and gargled with her minty mouthwash, José checked his reflection in the mirror. His hair was ruffled into a mess. He had scratches on his shoulders all the way to his ass, and hickeys on his chest and neck. He touched the light bruise on his collarbone. Jewel had sucked on that spot when she’d come the last time. She’d even had tears in her eyes. She was one passionate woman when she made love. She didn’t hold back.

José walked back into the room. Jewel had flipped on her stomach and the sheets were tangled around her legs, exposing her body. His cock instantly jerked as he studied her form. She had love marks on her neck, back, and ass. Jewel’s workout routines showed in her toned, powerful thighs and calves, and the point above where her waist curved into a big, tight butt. He’d never been with a woman with such a big ass. His dick leaked pre-cum as he stared at it. He continued watching the curve of her ass as she turned to her side. Looking at her hair, José smiled. It was everywhere; her scarf had slipped off during their second round. She would be fussing when she woke up about how long it would take for her to get her hair tamed.

He got back in bed and gave her a peck on her behind, brushing his lips to the dip in her back, then licking his way up her spine to her neck to suck the sweet spot where her shoulders met her throat.

Jewel’s eyes began to flutter open. “Mmm, again.”

“Yes.” He climbed on top of her, rubbing his hard dick on her butt. “Jewel, you’re so addicting,” he said, kissing her cheek. “I could love on you all day and night.”

Jewel arched up, lifting her ass. “Then show me.” She reached back and stroked his cock in her hands to push him in.

The sensation was too intense. “Fuck,” he said against her neck. He tried to restrain himself. “Don’t move.”

Her lips curled at the corners. She must have thought he was kidding, because she started moving her hips, and he forcefully grabbed her. “Jewel, please don’t move.”

She glanced over her shoulder and stared at him. “What’s wrong?” Her voice was filled with concern.

He couldn’t help it. He pushed in a little deeper, making her moan. “Are you on birth control?”

  “No…”

“Then don’t move, because I don’t want to come inside you,” he said. “But I’ve wanted to know,” he licked her earlobe, “how it felt to be inside you without any barriers.” He grunted as he slid out, and picked up a condom.

Jewel twisted and leaned on her elbows, staring at him as he rolled it on. “You felt amazing.”

José lay on his back, and pulled her on top of him. She straddled him, and gently took him in inch by inch. She began riding him slowly, her hands circling around his neck. He loved how she wasn’t shy when it came to sex. Jewel let him know what she wanted. She picked up momentum, riding him hard. He thrust up and she plunged down, rotating her ass, squeezing his rod.

Jewel gazed into his eyes, as her grip around his neck got tighter. “Say my name…”

  ***

Jewel wanted her name to leave his lips just one more time before reality returned, and he no longer needed a fix. The things he made her body feel! She was on fire, sore in places she forgot existed, but it didn’t stop her from pouncing on him. Thank God José still had his senses, because she would’ve fucked him without a condom and regretted it later.

Grabbing her hips, José gazed at her with hooded eyes. His hold on her was getting painful; she could feel him ready to blow. “Fuck, mami, you need to come.”

“Then say my name.” She rose up, exposing his cock, then slammed right back down. Every time she did that, the resulting look on his face made her insides quiver.

  “Jewel!” he yelled. “Je-wel…”

She went wild, bouncing with speed, and he followed her lead.

“Whose pussy is it?” he asked, slapping her ass.

“Yours!” She jammed her hands into his silky hair. “Yours, José… This pussy is yours.” Jewel tugged on his hair, and she lost it. Her vision went blank for a few seconds as she fell on him, panting his name over and over. This man had spoiled her for any other man. “All of me is yours…”

  ***

José could feel her essence coating his cock, she was still on his chest as he thrust up into her with no mercy. “Mine.” He held her tight. “Mio.” Her body trembled as he felt his own body go numb.

He came with so much force, he swore he’d blacked out, because when he woke up later that morning, Jewel was gone.

  ***

Someone rang the doorbell. Jewel let her eyes slowly flutter open. She was snuggled up in José’s arms, his head rested in the crook of her neck. The ringing continued, and Jewel gently slipped out of José’s embrace, careful not to wake him up. Her heart ached as she gazed at him, not wanting what they’d shared last night to end. She wanted more than one night; she wanted him.

She rushed into the bathroom, brushed her teeth, and put her hair in a ponytail. Her mother was supposed to come over, but she didn’t expect her so early. Jewel grabbed the first clothes she saw, and hurried to the front door. She didn’t bother to ask who it was, she just swung the door open.

  “Jewel.”

She swallowed. “Mr. Papo, good morning.”

“Good morning, Jewel.” He looked down at her collarbone, staring at the hickeys José had given her the previous night. “By the look on your face, you weren’t expecting me.”

She looked at the eighteen-wheeler parked down the street. “Sir, you don’t need to notify me when you’re coming in to town.” Jewel opened the door wider. “Come in.”

“I know his surprise party is later on, but there was no way I could hide.” He pointed at the truck, and entered the house. “I left José a couple of messages last night, letting him know I was passing through for a couple of days.”

Jewel closed the door and nervously looked down the hall, praying José wouldn’t come out naked. “He might have forgotten to tell me. I’m happy you could make it.”

Papo looked around the house. “You have a lovely home. Where’s José?”

“I think he’s still sleeping. I can wake him?”

“Naw, let him sleep. My boy has been working a lot lately. He deserves a little extra sleep.”

He didn’t get any extra sleep last night. She smiled. “Join me for breakfast?” Jewel strolled into the kitchen with Papo in tow.

He touched her shoulder, making her turn around. “Jewel, thank you for looking after my boy. He’s been through a lot. He just needed someone to believe in him.”

“You believed in him.” Jewel stared at Papo. He was a handsome older man. She could only imagine what he must have looked like when he was younger. Both Javier and José resembled him; Javier with his looks, but José had his personality.

“Yes, I always have, but maybe he needed someone else other than his parents to say the words.” He sat in the kitchenette chair, watching her as she moved around, getting the eggs, bacon, and bread. “José talks about you all the time. He says he wouldn’t have made it out here without you. Thank you, darling.”

Jewel could feel her tears threatening to fall. She hadn’t known José had talked about her to the one perso
n he trusted the most. “José is a wonderful man. I would do anything for him.” She bent down and picked up the frying pan, trying not to look at Papo. “Do you want something to drink?”

  “Yes, please.”

She went in to the fridge, got the orange juice, and grabbed two glasses, then placed them on the table. Jewel sat next to him, and poured them both some juice.

“Thank you.” He just stared at her.

  ***

“You look like your mother,” Papo couldn’t stop staring at Jewel. She had her mother’s smile. He had to find out if what he thought he knew was the truth.

“A little.” Jewel started laughing. “That’s why you’re looking at me like that?” She took a sip of her drink. “Don’t believe what people say. My mom is not that bad.”

“No one has told me anything bad about your mother. She seems like a lovely lady.”

  “She is.”

“Where are your parents from?” Papo asked, taking a gulp of juice.

“My dad’s from Philadelphia, and my mom was born in New York.” She got up and walked over to the stove.

“My wife was born in Puerto Rico, but moved to New York when she was fifteen.” He chuckled. “I bet you knew that, and I grew up in Brooklyn.” Papo observed her.

  “Say Brooklyn again.” She grinned.

  “Brooklyn.”

She turned the knob on the stove. “I love your accent. My mom’s from there too. I believe she moved when she was seventeen,” Jewel said as she cracked an egg into the pan.

“Really?” His heartbeat double-time. “What neighborhood?”

“I’m not sure. She doesn’t really talk about it.” She set the bacon on the next burner, turning off the eggs.

“Is that where your parents met?” He needed to find out, one way or the other. He always wondered what happen to Lilly. Why she left him? Was she his Lilly?

“No, my parents met in Philadelphia. That’s where my mom and her mother moved to.” She rose up on her tiptoes, trying to grab something from the top cabinet.

  “You need help?”

“Nope, I got it.” She grabbed two plates, and began serving.

“I hope you don’t mind me asking you questions. I just want to get to know my in-laws better.” He watched her as she came over with two plates with bacon, eggs, and toast, and silverware, placing one setting in front of him.

“No, ask away. I love talking about my dysfunctional family.” They both started laughing.

He grabbed the fork. “I have one of those families, too.” He took a bite. “This is great.”

“Not as good as your son’s.” Papo noticed that every time she spoke about José, her eyes sparkled and her smiled got wider. “He taught me a few things.”

“I know your dad was in the military. Was your mom a stay-at-home wife?” Papo studied her.

Jewel started giggling, and covered her mouth. “Sorry… My mom a stay-at-home mom? It’s been a while. I can’t even imagine that. No, my mom is a chiropractor.”

“She’s a doctor?” He raised his voice slightly. He’d always known Lilly would become something great in life. Apparently, she’d made her dreams come true.

Jewel watched him carefully. “Yes, it’s hard to believe, but she is.”

“Maria is a retired nurse.” He had to make it seem like they were sharing information. “I bet her family was very proud of her,” he said, finishing his meal.

“Grandma was always proud of anything my mom did.” Her eyes showed sadness.

  “Did I say something wrong?”

She gave him a fake smile. “No, I get sad every time I talk about my grandma.”

“Did your grandmother pass away?” he asked, getting sad himself. Mrs. Doris was a great woman. She took care of the neighborhood kids.

“No, she has Alzheimer’s.” She stopped eating. “My mom had to put her in a home. It broke my mom’s heart to put her in there, but she couldn’t take care of her anymore, and her brother never helped.” Jewel pushed her food around with her fork.

Papo’s heart was about to jump out of his chest. “Your mother has a brother?”

“Yes, he’s nothing but trouble.” She sighed. “He stayed in New York with my grandfather. My uncle was part of a gang. My mom and grandmother were threatened one time too many, and according to Nana, my uncle even threatened to kill my mom’s boyfriend. She knew my mother couldn’t keep away from the boy, so my Nana made the sacrifice and left. My mom didn’t want to leave. I guess she was in love; I’m not sure. My grandmother used to tell us the stories, but we never knew if it was real or her imagination.”

That was it. If the brother’s name was Alfonso, he’d finally found his Lilly. There would be no question.

“Maybe I knew your uncle. I was a bad boy back in my day.” He chuckled.

“I doubt you knew my uncle Alfonso.”

Papo slouched in the chair and took a deep breath, gripping the edge of the table. She hadn’t said his last name, but he knew they were talking about the same man.

“Mr. Papo, are you okay?” Jewel stood rapidly. “Do you know my uncle?”

“No, I don’t.” He sat up. “I just got flushed. I’m all right.”

“Are you sure? You seem pale.”

“I’m sure.” He got up. “Can I use your bathroom?”

“Mr. Papo, you don’t have to ask to use anything in this house.” She grabbed both plates. “It’s the second door on your right.”

Papo could barely walk. Lilly. He knew it was her. He’d fallen in love with his friend’s sister when he was sixteen. It had lasted two years but when Alfonso found out, he and his buddies had beaten Papo so badly, he’d ended up in the hospital for weeks. But that never stopped him from trying to have a relationship with her—until she’d broken his heart. She’d told him she no longer wanted to be with him because they were too different, her being African-American…and then she just disappeared.

Lilly was his first in everything. He could never forget her eyes, and those luscious lips when they’d lifted up into a smile. She’d accomplished everything she said she would, and most importantly, Lilly was happy. That was all he’d ever wanted and now, after more than three decades, he could finally close that chapter in his life. She hadn’t left because of him. It had been her bastard brother’s fault. Alfonso had put his family in danger. His smile got wider as he thought of the young girl with her wit and sassy attitude, the girl who’d always taken his breath away.

She didn’t leave because of me. Lilly left because she loved me.

  ***

José stretched his arms out, searching for Jewel’s warm body, but she wasn’t in the bed. His eyes blinked open, and he slowly sat up, combing his fingers through his hair. Does she really think this is only going to be for one night? He placed his feet on the floor, and bent down to retrieve the condom there.

José strolled into the bathroom and disposed of the latex. He ambled out of her bedroom, and heard her in the hallway bathroom. That was odd; she usually used her own. He continued to his room and grabbed some sweats, pulling them on. He rambled toward the kitchen to find Jewel there, washing dishes. Damn, she looks sexy. Her hair was up in a ponytail and she wore a knee-high romper.

He quietly came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist, nibbling her neck, caressing her breast. “You don’t think this is over yet?” He sucked the area under her earlobe, making her moan.

  “José…your—”

He turned her around and devoured her mouth, tasting every crevice. She tasted of bacon and orange juice. Jewel tried to pull away, making him put his hand in her hair to keep her in his embrace. Jewel finally stopped resisting and kissed him back. José gripped her ass with his other hand.

Someone cleared their throat, making José pause.

“I was trying to tell you,” Jewel whispered against his lips. “Your dad’s here.”

  José whipped around. “Dad!”

“Son?” His dad arched a brow. “
Do you want me to leave and come back in?” He chuckled.

Jewel covered her face with her hands, and turned to continue washing the dishes.

“Dad, what are you doing here?” José moved in front of Jewel.

“If it’s a problem, I’ll leave,” Papo stated sternly.

“No, I didn’t mean it like that.” José sauntered toward his dad and gave him a bear hug. “I’m happy to see you.”

His dad patted his shoulder. “Don’t fuck this up,” he whispered in his ear.

They pulled away from the embrace, and José watched his dad.

“I left you several messages last night, letting you know I was in town.” Papo gaped from his neck to his chest, checking out the love marks he had. “But I see why you didn’t get them.”

“Excuse me.” Jewel hurried from the kitchen with her head down.

“José, what the hell are you doing? Please don’t tell me you’re playing with her.” Papo sat down.

José sat next to him. “I’m not. Jewel has been my rock since I got here.” He looked away.

“I thought that girl Connie was the one you were seeing.”

“At first I did, but Connie doesn’t make me feel the way Jewel does.” José rubbed his eyes with his hands. “I feel different when I’m with Jewel.”

“Does she make you want things you never did before?”

“She believes in me.” He looked his dad in his eyes. “When I wanted to give up and move back home, she kept me grounded. Jewel has my back and I will always have hers.”

“So what are you saying?” His dad stared at him.

“I don’t know what I want, but I want her.”

“That makes no sense.” Papo chuckled. “Hijo, you’re falling in love with her.”

  “What? No.”

“In time you’ll see it.” His dad smirked. “Como estas?”

“I’m doing great. I start college classes next week,” he said, excited. “I have a good job, I finally got my GED, and I’m starting my degree.”
