They had dancing girl corsets, fine dresses for ladies and even clothes for kids.
“They seemed to like it,” Allen said as he watched them walk down the boardwalk.
“Yes, everybody seems to,” Corinne said. “But this one is my favorite.”
She picked up a silver, filigree frame and turned it toward Allen. They were both smiling in the picture, and Corinne thought he might never look more handsome on that day, in his tails and satin vest with the gold pocketwatch. The day he’d told her he loved her.
Allen walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist, kissing the top of her head.
“My favorite, too. And I’m glad it’s here and also on the mantle at home, with the rest of the family. Right where it belongs.”
She set the frame back on the counter and turned, wrapping her arms around his neck.
Home. Yes, they’d made a home. Opal had moved out to Bernard’s cabin after they were married, and she and Allen had settled right into his. She had a corner for her sewing machine, and he had a little part of the patio outside for his projects. Tamlyn was fine on her own, but Corinne had noticed her spending a little more time than usual with a handsome young man they’d just met the night before. Everything seemed in order.
“You happy, Mr. Hamilton?” she asked softly, nuzzling his ear.
Allen looked around at their new venture.
“Couldn’t be happier, Mrs. Hamilton. We have our own business and each other. What’s not to be happy about?”
Corinne nodded. What was there not to be happy about when blessed with a second chance. And they were both making the most of it, every second of every day.
