Vanya waved his hand and opened the file. There was no original paperwork in it. Everything was copies printed from a computer database now. Vanya missed the days when he could request information on someone and hold an actual picture of them.

“The way of the world,” he muttered to himself.

  “What’s that?”

“Nothing. You’re done now. I’ll call if I need anything.”

“But Vanya, I was thinking I could—”

“Pavel, you do a good job for me. You would be difficult to replace. But not impossible.”

Pavel took the hint, bowed to his employer, and walked briskly from the room.

The first thing Petrovsky did was rifle through the file for a picture. He wanted to put a face on his nemesis. When he finally pulled a photo out, he was surprised to see that the man had brown skin. He lingered on the picture for several minutes, wondering if he was only imagining that he saw something he recognized.

Growing more curious, he flipped through the stack of papers until he found the man’s military discharge record. It was then that he learned Clark’s first name: Czerny.

The revelation hit him like a bat to the face. Petrovsky starting throwing pages from the file onto the floor, searching desperately until he found what he was looking for: Czerny Clark’s initial Army intake paperwork, a standard form that the man had filled out when he had entered the service over a decade ago.

Height, weight, Social Security number, blood type—it was all there.

Petrovsky breathed deeply. He ran his hands through his hair several times before turning the page, and finding the information he was looking for.

The names of Czerny Clark’s parents.

“Impossible,” he said as he sat back in his chair, stunned.

  “This is impossible.”

  Ready To Be A Rogue?

Alone and on the run, Clark’s still as deadly as ever…

Betrayed by the people he trusted most, Czerny Clark’s world came crashing down around him. Disavowed and pushed into the cold, he lives day to day, staying off the radar at all times. Until a dangerous new mission surfaces and puts a target on his back…

A Cold War-era missile falls into the wrong hands and Clark must team up with his worst enemy to find it. Along the way, he uncovers a bombshell secret about his family, and himself...

Can Clark stop thousands of innocent lives from being lost? Will he ever uncover the truth, or will the pursuit kill him in the process?
