“Where it started.” He took my hand, bringing it to his lips for a kiss.
Fifteen minutes later, we were walking into the same room we’d had the night I met him. Sometimes it was hard to believe how much had come out of that night. I was so glad I threw caution to the wind and let myself be with him, not just that night, but after as well.
The scent of roses filled the room. On the table, next to the roses, sat a bottle of champagne in a bucket of ice.
“You’ve thought of everything,” I said.
“Champagne?” He walked to the table and pulled the bottle from the bucket.
I shook my head. “Dance with me.”
“We have no music.” Still, he set the bottle down and took me in his arms. We started to sway
“I hear music. Every time I’m with you.”
He snorted. “Now who is being romantic?”
I kissed him, as love and happiness filled me. When I pulled back, I asked, “Did you mean what you said about maybe this time next year we’d add to the brood?”
He arched a brow. “We talked about it.”
I nodded. “We did.”
“Are you having second thoughts?” his hands rubbed my back. “We can wait. Give it more time. I know your work is busy.”
I wanted to sink into him, but I held back slightly so I could look up at him. “No, I’m not having second thoughts. And even if I was, it’s too late for it.”
“Oh?” Then a second later, it was like a lightbulb went on in his brain. “Oh?” He stared at me like he was unsure what to think. Finally, he said, “Are you saying you’re having a baby?”
I loved how excited he seemed at the prospect.
“I’m saying we’re having a baby.” I was giddy from the joy of telling him and seeing the marvel of it on his face.
His breath came out on a whoosh. Then he lifted me a twirled. “Oh my God.”
I laughed, soaking in his joy. “There’s more.”
“More?” He set me down. “More what? Are there two in there?”
“No. I don’t think so, anyway. The more is that I went to the doctor to confirm it and she gave me a due date. She said most babies aren’t born on the due date, but I thought it was a type of serendipity or something.”
“What is it?” he asked.
“February fourteenth.”
He laughed. “So, two years from the day I met and fell for you, we could have a child. A living representation of that love?”
I nodded, pleased that he understood why I thought the date was significant. It was less about being Valentine’s day and more about being the anniversary of when we met.
“God Sasha. I love you so much.” He dropped to his knees and pressed his cheek against my belly. “And I love you.” He looked up at me. “It’s a miracle.”
I ruffled his hair. “People make babies all the time.”
“I know but…I’m in awe over the idea that I’ve helped create a new life.” He stood, his hands cradling my face. “We created a life.”
He was right. The idea of making a human being was filled with awe.
“Is it safe to make love, because Sasha, I really need to make love to you now.”
I cupped him, noting the evidence of his need. “Is the idea of having made a baby turning you on?”
“You turn me on.” He guided me to the bed and gently lay me back. “You light me up. You fill me with joy. Sometimes I can’t even believe my life.”
I pulled him down to me. “I love you, Reece.” I wished there were more words or better words because I didn’t feel like I was adequately expressing the intensity of emotion I felt for him.
“Sasha?”
“Yes Reece.”
His hands slowly caressed my body. His hazel gaze held mine. “Tonight, you’ll have finesse.”
“I think finesse is what got me knocked up.”
He kissed me lightly. “I’m going to send Sal another thank you note for that.”
I laughed. “Stop talking about Sal and make love to me.”
“Anything you want, baby, it’s yours.”
I looked up into his hazel eyes, my heart so full of love and happiness. “With you and now this baby, I already have everything I’ve ever wanted.”
His breath hitched and his gaze was intense as he looked at me. “With you, I have more than I ever thought possible. You’re my life, Sasha.”
I pulled him to me in a kiss, and made sure that he understood that he was my life too.
