Next he ran his hands over her spine, dipping his fingers into the waistband of her white knit shorts, sliding his palm down to cup her ass cheek, caressing it, stroking the hot flesh. His other hand slipped down and soon her shorts were around her ankles, only a tiny pink thong left to cover her most intimate places.
He stood and ran his gaze over her, taking in the smooth satin of her skin, studying the curve of her waist. He looked as if he couldn’t believe she was here, that she was actually his.
“You are so very special,” he murmured, slowly dropping to his knees, his hands splayed across her abdomen. “I need to see all of you.”
Her breath sucked in as he began to slide the thong down her legs, slowly, almost reverently. His lips slid across her bellybutton, sending shivers down her spine. When his tongue dove into her navel, she felt the wave of sensation way down between her legs.
His hands clasped both her butt cheeks, his breath hot against her pubis. He rubbed his nose against her mound, drinking in the scent of her.
Then suddenly his tongue flashed out and delved between her lips, honing in on her swollen clitoris. He caught the tiny bud between his teeth, his tongue laving the burning flesh.
Robyn’s legs spread, her pelvis thrusting forward. Oh God, she was going to explode. Every lash of his tongue drove her further toward the edge of insanity, her hips beginning to jerk wildly. His hands clamped her in place, his tongue working deftly, tasting and swirling across the ultra-sensitive spot.
Her world shook, wave after wave of intense sensation washing over her. Her hands clutched his head, her fingers locking in his hair. Her hips thrust forward as she continued to shake, blasts of pleasure detonating within her.
Oh, dear God. She’d never felt this way before, so complete, so hungry. Now she had to have him in her. She needed to feel him deep inside her, needed to feel him crashing into her cervix, filling her up with his cock.
They made their way to the bed and fell on to the mattress. It swung beneath them and Robyn felt as if the whole world rocked. Her legs slid open, asking, needing him to join them together in a union of body and soul.
When he slid the length of his prick inside her she couldn’t tamp back the cry that erupted from deep within her.
Hawk stilled, letting her adjust to his girth, then slowly rocked back and forth, sliding in to his hilt then pulling backwards till he almost left her. He thrust again, then retreated. Every lunge drove him deeper, uniting them tighter, fusing their bond.
Robyn felt the explosion building within her, the combustible elements starting to flare. Just as she began to climax, she felt him stiffen and groan, his orgasm coming simultaneously with hers. Together they swept up, up, and away, into the stratosphere of sexual pleasure that it seemed only the two of them could share.
Afterwards, Robyn lay gasping, her breath coming in shudders. She felt a flood of emotions washing over her, tears stinging her eyes.
God damn it! Now she’d done it.
She’d fallen in love with Hawk. What the hell was she going to do?
Chapter 22
Two days later Robyn, snuggled into Hawk’s arms, reveling in the feeling of safety and comfort. Next to him was the only place she wanted to be. She had gone from completely anti-men to one hundred percent pro Hawk in just a matter of days. He might look like a bad boy, rough and tumble, but he was truly an exceptional man.
“I hate to leave you,” Hawk said, dropping a kiss on her brow. “This meeting with my attorney shouldn’t take long.’
“Don’t worry. I’ll be fine.”
“I know you will. Just behave yourself. No kick boxing, no wrestling, no fighting while I’m gone.” He gave the ends of her hair a playful tug. “Promise?”
“I’ll do my best to stay out of trouble.”
“See that you do,” he ordered in a playfully stern voice. “I need you here when I come home.” He dipped his head and captured her lips in a warm kiss that instantly sent flames of desire shooting through her.
“Mmm, if you want to get out of here without being molested, you better go.”
Hawk grinned, stole one more kiss and slapped her on the ass. “I’ll see you when I get home.”
She watched him walk out the door of the apartment, her heart melting at the sight of him. How had he come to mean so much to her in such a short space of time?
Once Hawk was gone, Robyn set to cleaning the apartment. She loaded the dishwasher and ran the dust mop across the hardwood floors, humming as she worked. She was the happiest she could ever remember being. If only she could find Crystal, her world would be perfect.
The thought of her sister made Robyn pause for a moment, the sunshine suddenly dimmed. God, how could she be so happy when Crystal was still in danger? She needed to focus on finding her. Time was running out. She’d soon have to go back to Indianapolis, and she was afraid she’d never see her sister again once she did.
Robyn put the dust mop away and went downstairs to check on the bar. Everything was humming along as normal. She spent a few minutes floating amongst the customers, enjoying their company. That was one of the great things about the Hawk’s Nest. Their customers were diverse, ranging from locals to visitors from abroad who had heard about the place through word of mouth. She had just finished chatting with a lovely Polish couple when her phone rang.
She answered without looking at the caller ID. “Hello.”
A woman’s voice spoke. “Is this the woman looking for her sister?”
Robyn’s heart fluttered to a stop for a moment before she could speak. “Yes it is,” she finally managed to answer.
“Well, I know where she’s at.”
“Tell me.” A steely tone rang in her voice.
“She’s being held at a farm about five miles from you. She’s being kept in a tool shed there.”
In a tool shed. My God, it sounded awful. She had to rescue her sister. But first she had to make sure this caller was the real thing, not just some thrill seeker making stuff up.
“How do you know this?”
“I’m a friend of Guts, but I can’t watch him treat this woman like this, man. It’s awful. It’s like she’s a damn dog or something.”
Her words froze her blood.
“I can’t stand by anymore. I had to call you.”
“Tell me exactly where she is.” Robyn shot the words at the woman, yanking a small notepad from her pocket.
“Okay. You head south when you leave Hawk’s Nest.” She continued with her directions and Robyn jotted them down on the notepad, repeating them back to make sure she got everything right. “But you need to hurry. I think Guts is getting ready to make a move. I think he’s planning on taking the girl and running. Or getting rid of the girl all together.”
The dire tone of the caller’s voice sent a shiver down Robyn’s spine. She had to move, and she had to move fast.
“Thank you. Thank you so much.” Robyn’s voice shook, the adrenaline flowing through her veins. “I’ve got to go now.”
She didn’t wait for a response, just clicked the phone off and shoved it in the pocket of her denim shorts. Her stomach felt jittery, her nerves on high alert.
What should she do? Should she call that private detective again? He hadn’t shown much interest in the case. Should she head over there right away or wait for Hawk to return? Her mind spun with indecision.
The caller had warned her not to waste time. That meant waiting for Hawk was not a possibility. She needed to go right now. She could try to get in touch with Detective Burkholder on the way.
Robyn made her decision. She’d have to go on by herself. But she wasn’t going to be stupid about it. She hurried over to the bartender and rattled off directions to where she’d be and why.
“Hey, don’t you think you ought to wait for Hawk?” the young bartender, Cruz, called after her as she dashed for the door.
“No time,” she hollered over her shoulder. “I’ve got to go now.”
She was halfw
ay down the path to her car when she realized she didn’t have her purse and that’s where the car keys were. She turned and dashed back inside and upstairs to the apartment, grabbed the small shoulder bag, and took off back down the stairs.
Come on, come on, I gotta get there. Her thoughts gave speed to her feet and she was falling into her car in a matter of seconds. Her hands shook as she inserted the key into the ignition and shoved it into reverse. God, please let me be in time.
It seemed like it took forever to cover the few miles to the old farm where Crystal was supposedly being held, though in reality it was less than 15 minutes. She turned onto the overgrown lane, slowing her car to maneuver over bumps and ridges in what passed as a driveway. Branches scraped against the edges of the car as Robyn guided it up a steep hill, surrounded by trees, finally rounding a corner and emerging at the edge of an old farmstead. A cold sweat spread across her body. This was it.
Chapter 23
A weathered house drooped before her, porch sagging, the frame seeming to tilt drunkenly to one side. The yard was overgrown, patches of weeds protruding here and there. Off to the left sat a barn that was in worse shape than the house and there, right between the two, was a shed that looked as if it might fall down at any moment. That’s where Crystal was supposedly being held.
She sat still for a moment, checking the place out. There didn’t seem to be anyone around. The whole area looked deserted. A restless wind toyed with a loose shutter on the house, slapping it back and forth, back and forth. A scurry of leaves shuffled across the drive.
It looked like she was alone. She yanked the door handle the door handle and slid out of the car. She couldn’t see anyone around, but she wasn’t going to take chances. She shut the door softly, making sure not to make any noise that would alert anyone to her presence.
She needed to get into that shed. She glanced around then took off towards the wobbly outbuilding. Once she reached it her hands fumbled at the latch holding the door closed. She skinned her knuckles as she forced the lever back.
Inside the shed was dim, with barely enough light even with the door open to see anything. But wait! What was that?
“Crystal. Oh my God, Crystal!” Robyn raced across the small space and dropped to her knees next to her sister. Crystal turned to face her and Robyn’s breath caught in a gasp. Both of Crystal’s eyes were black and swollen, her lip split.
Robyn pulled her sister to her. “God, Crystal, what the hell has that fucking dick wad done to you?” Her voice was clogged with emotion, her whole body rigid with anger. “We’re going to get you out of here.”
She quickly ran her eyes over Crystal and determined that she was chained to the back wall. Damn! How was she going to get her loose?
“Get out of here, Robyn.” Crystal’s voice was so rough, so gravely, that it startled Robyn. She’d never heard a voice so hoarse with pain before.
“No, are you crazy? I’m not leaving you here.” Robyn shook the chains with frustration. There had to be a way to get Crystal loose. She looked frantically around the shed for a tool, any tool that would help her bust the chain. Even a big rock would do.
“Go on. Before he catches you.” Tears pooled in Crystal’s bloodshot blue eyes. “He’ll kill you.”
“No,” she growled, anger churning inside her. “No, he won’t get the chance.” She scrambled across the dirt floor and grabbed a softball-sized stone. “No, we’re getting out of here. Together.”
Robyn slammed the rock into the chain but nothing happened. She raised it again, bringing it down with all her might. There, a slight chip. She whammed the rock again and again against the link.
“Do you really think that’s going to work?”
The deep voice behind her sent her spinning around to face a big tattooed man looming there. His hair fell in greasy strands around a face that wore a cocky grin, his hands shoved into the pockets of worn blue jeans.
“You might as well give it up, Robyn. Those are some mighty strong chains. I made sure of it.”
Then another man stepped into view. He was short, with blonde, curly hair framing a round face, and he grinned clownishly.
“Yeah, he made sure of it. Right, Guts? You made sure of it.” The little man seemed to take a perverse delight in that fact, clapping his hands together. “Can I have this one, Guts? Huh? You said I could have the sister, right? She’s real pretty.”
“Shut up, Junior.” Guts spat at the man. “You’ll get your turn. Just be patient.”
“Okay, but I get to fuck her, right? You said I could fuck her.” His eyes looked crazy to Robyn, seeming to roam in opposite directions.
“Yeah, you can fuck her, once I get through with her.” He growled menacingly, taking a step towards Robyn. “But I’ve got to teach this bitch a lesson. She’s got to learn that she can’t run other people’s lives.”
“Ha!” The word popped out of her mouth before she could stop it. “I can’t but you can?”
“That’s right. You’re just a woman. You can’t do anything.”
“Yeah,” Junior gibed, puffing up and waving his arms around. “You can’t do nothing.”
Robyn rose slowly to her feet and took a fighting stance, her gaze clashing with Guts’, ignoring Junior for now.
“I can take you down.” She spoke softly, surely.
“Then show me.” He lunged towards her, swinging at her face, but she ducked neatly under his thrusting fist. She quickly shot her foot out and caught it behind his knee, jerking him to the floor. She moved in quickly, taking advantage of his shock at being decked. Her foot rammed into his rib cage, knocking the air from his lungs.
Guts rolled onto his side, curling into a ball. His hand shot out and grabbed her by the ankle, pulling her down to his level. Robyn didn’t even think about fighting fair. She just had to win this battle. She blasted a fist into his nut sack, reveling in the groan that burst from his lips.
“Fucking bitch,” he roared, twisting sharply and putting her on her back.
Robyn thought back to all her self-defense classes, hearing the voices of her instructors. Don’t let yourself get pinned down. If your enemy’s on top, buck him off. Robyn reared her hips up with all her might, twisting her body at the same time. Guts tumbled off her and landed on the dirty floor. Quickly she climbed on top and pinned him down, her knees pressing into his forearms.
“You slimy piece of chicken shit. You can’t even beat a girl.” She couldn’t resist taunting him.
“Don’t bet on it,” he ground out. And that’s when Robyn felt a body blast into her from the back. Junior let loose a war cry as he knocked her off of Guts, whooping with exultation. He flattened himself on top of her back, crushing her into the dirt. Her head slammed against the floor and she saw stars.
“I got you now. I gotcha.” Junior’s hands encircled her wrists. “Look, Guts, I got her.”
Guts slowly rolled to his side and rose to his feet, swiping a hand across his mouth. He stared for a long moment, his eyes glaring hatred at her.
“You did good, Junior, real good.” He hitched up his jeans. “Now we get to show her what happens to little girls that stick their noses into other people’s business.”
“Yeah. Gotta mind your own business.” Junior emphasized his words by rocking his hips against her buttocks, grinding a weak erection into her ass.
Crystal suddenly reacted to what was happening in front of her. She jerked her arms, pulling and tugging at the chains, her voice ringing out sharply.
“Stop it, Guts. Stop.” Her voice shook with emotion. “Leave her alone.”
“Shut your fucking mouth, bitch.” He whirled to face her, his face a picture of anger. “You don’t get to vote here. You’re just something that belongs to me. Now I gotta do what I gotta do. You shut the hell up with your caterwauling.”
Crystal tossed her head, her rose gold hair tumbling past her shoulders. “What are you going to do?”
“I’m going to hurt your sister. And you’re going
to watch.”
“God, Guts, leave her alone. I’ll do what you want. Just let her go.”
“You’ll do what I want no matter what I do to this slut. You’re going to learn that I am your master. You will obey me no matter what.” Robyn expected him to thump his chest and give a Tarzan yell.
“And you know what I’m going to do? You know how I’m going to teach this bitch a lesson? First, I’m going to have at her. Then I’m going to let Junior have a go. Then I’m going to kill her.”
“How do you think you’re going to get away with it, prick? You’ll get caught and rot in jail.” Robyn ground the words out.
“Only fools get caught and I’m no fool,” he sneered. “Now get up, Junior, and wait your turn.”
Junior reluctantly climbed off her back and Guts pulled her up by her hair, spinning her to face him. He raised one big hand and struck her across the mouth, jarring her head backwards.
“Now it’s time to have some fun.”
Chapter 24
Robyn ignored the pain that shot through her head, ignored the blood leaking from her lip. Instead she reared her arm back and slammed it into his nuts again. When he doubled over she rammed her knee into his chin, sending him reeling backward. She turned to face both her attackers, standing in front of Crystal, her hands raised in a fighting position.
Those sparring matches back in Indianapolis were good training, but those opponents weren’t really angry with her. Now she faced two mad dogs who wanted to tear her to pieces. Reality sucked.
Her gaze flashed back and forth between the two men. Which one would move first? Junior. He ran at her, head down, arms spread ready to grab her. She watched him come then at the last second raised her foot and forced it into his gut. His breath whooshed out and he stumbled backward.
She flashed her gaze back to Guts just in time to see him pull a knife from his boot. Crap. Now there were weapons involved. Her timing had to be precise. He rushed towards her, the knife at shoulder level, ready to be plunged into her heart. Putting all her weight behind it she doubled her fists and thrust them upwards to slam into his wrist.
