Marc had listened in silence, knowing in a heartbeat that Greg was right – none of them knew how long they would be safe here on this island.
“We should be heading back,” said Marc.
Greg handed him the baby, and Marc cradled Zodiac as Greg reached for his cane then leaned on it heavily, as together they made their way back towards the path that led to the village. It would be painful walk for Greg, but Marc understood today he needed to feel that pain because right now, he could feel little else after the loss of Stacy.
They walked together saying nothing, their thoughts silent but shared as they knew they faced an uncertain future, in a world where the dead outnumbered the living - and perhaps that would never change...
