His Unplanned Lesson Page 20

They finished unloading the last load and the living room was just full. Overwhelmed was an understatement at where all this stuff would go. The cottage wasn’t very big and I had no idea.

“Jake, can I talk to you for a minute in private please?” I turned on my heel and walked back into the bedroom. I heard him climb over some boxes and he walked in behind me, closing the door behind him.

I had put a box on the bed with a pretty black and silver bow tied to the top.

  “What’s this?”

“I just want you to open it.” I sat on the edge of the bed while he made his way to me.

“Should I be scared?” He laughed, untying the bow.

“Maybe.” I shrugged my shoulders with a sly smile across my lips. I guess he’d find out what his feelings were if he just opened it.

He peeled back the edges and a look of confusion wiped over his face.

He took a tool kit and smiled. “Wow, this is really nice. What’s this for?” He looked at me.

“Well that was a gift I meant to give you a while back for helping me around the house. Like a long while back and I had forgotten about it and found it as I was putting some of your things away. But there’s another small box in there. Go see.” I pointed to it and he peeked in and saw the box, taking it out.

He cut through the tape with his knife and out popped another tool kit but a mini one. His eyes lit up and he was so excited for the tools inside. Then he saw the newspaper on the bottom and reached for it as it had house listings on it.

“What’s this?” He looked confused again.

I reached for his hand by the bed and squeezed it while I searched for answers in his confused expression on how he was about to react to the news.

“The paper has house listings on it because I’m pretty sure we need to find a bigger house.” I laughed.

“No, baby, I know how much this one means to you. It’ll work out.”

Then I held up the mini tool kit and smiled even bigger. “No, we’ll need a bigger house to accommodate for a baby and their Daddy’s helper tool kit.” I bit my bottom lip to see his face lite up. A smile spread across his lips and it took a minute for it to sink in.

“Wait, you’re pregnant? We’re going to have a baby?” He asked, trying to hide the excitement in his voice till I made sure the question was answered.

“Yes.” I laughed. “I’m pregnant. We’re pregnant. I’m due in August!”

He wrapped me up and held me in his arms, holding me tight while he twirled around. “This is the best news of my life.” He kissed me passionately while tears escaped my eyes. Tears of joy and happiness for the beginnings that we didn’t plan, but fate would take care of.

“I’m going to be a daddy?” His voice cracked, looking deep into my eyes. The emotion setting in on how real and true the words really were. It was the best news I’d ever have to give somebody and I couldn’t wait to run out into the living room and tell our best friends and call my family and let them know.

“I found out at the shower but didn’t want to ruin Ava’s party with making it our own. I wanted to find the best way to tell you and thought today was the right day.”

“It’s perfect. This is perfect. I can’t wait. I hope we have a girl.” He set me down and hugged me so tight I could barely breathe. He was so excited that I couldn’t believe it. I thought he would be terrified and thinking it was too soon. He was beyond thrilled.

“So, I’ll have to put off school, and we’ll have to find a new place and figure out what to do with this one or keep it for summer fun. I’ll have to get a better job to pay for things, we’ll need to get a dog or something to protect us so it’ll have a pet to grow up with, put off the wedding or speed it up…” I rambled on.

He stopped me from talking and kissed me deeply. Breaking the kiss he smiled. “Shh, let’s worry about one thing at a time. We can always work through it all. I know we can.”

  “I know. I’m just a bit overwhelmed, that’s all.”

“My life has been a bit overwhelming. You’ve been my unplanned lesson to life this whole time. We had a rough start, but we’re going to have the best future. The best life together.”

I looked at him and knew right then and there, he was the exact example of what fate meant. He was the best thing that ever happened to me. Lust brought us together, love kept it sealed tight, and trust mended our hearts forever.

We had everything we needed, we had each other, and we had our future. That was our world. That was our fate.

  Fate

The universal principle or ultimate agency by which the order of things is presumably prescribed; the decreed cause of events; time; that which is inevitably predetermined; destiny.

  Epilogue - 3 Years Later

“Daddy!” Stella ran down the long hallway to meet her Daddy at the front door, as he came home after a long day’s work.

“Hey, princess!” He lifted her off the ground and twirled her in his arms before planting a big kiss on her forehead. I leaned against the wall in the hallway, watching it all before my eyes and just thinking how perfect of a daddy Jake was.

Jake caught my stare and walked down the hallway towards me with Stella in his arms and leaned forward, kissing me gently. “Hey, honey.” He smiled. “Dinner smells amazing.”

“I helped Mommy!” Stella added, while poking her hands through Jake’s hair, bringing his attention back to her.

“Well, then it must be really good. Let’s go eat, what do you think?” His smile could just brighten the room.

“Ok, my tummy is hungry.” She rubbed her belly, mimicking her hunger pains. Such a smart little two in a half year old.

We made our way back to the kitchen. The table was all prepared and ready for the food to be eaten. That was until I noticed the chair was tipped back on the ground and those greedy, beady little eyes stared back at me pitifully.

“Bones! You stupid dog!” I ran towards him, scaring him off while I noticed half the food on the table had been destroyed and eaten. This dog was going to be dead meat if he didn’t go hide!

  “Smart dog.” Jake smiled.

“It’s not funny, that was a good prepared meal.” I slapped my hands down to my sides and sighed.

“I think pizza sounds good tonight, what do you say, Stel?” Jake’s eyes met mine, waiting for the bigger baby to answer.

“Pi-zzzza!” She squealed, barely pronouncing it.

“I’m sorry, babe.” I looked at Jake, defeated after making such a good home cooked meal only to have to order out because of the damn dog. I rushed over to the patio doors and opened it, yelling for Bones to get out of the house. He knew he was in trouble, his tail was wedged between his legs while he did the walk of shame outside.

“Don’t worry about it. Nothing to fret over.” He picked his phone out of his pocket and called the local pizza place. Placing Stella down, she ran towards her toys in the playroom and started to beat on them loudly.

After the pizza was ordered for delivery, Jake approached me in the kitchen while I was cleaning up the mess. He wrapped his long, strong arms around me and stopped me from what I was doing.

“Clean it up later. I have some news,” he whispered in my ear.

I spun around and faced him, with an anxious look upon my face. I wanted to know, I needed to know the news. We’d been hoping for some type of news, we just didn’t know what.

  “I made project manager.”

I screamed in excitement and pulled him into my arms, tightly hugging him. “I’m so happy for you baby!” Pulling back, I kissed him hard. There was nothing more that I wanted to do than to take him upstairs and show him how much I was happy for him.

“Later, you and me, we have some celebrating to do.” He winked, giving me a seductive look with that sparkle in his eyes.

I looked around at everything we did have. We had a brand new house that was built from the bottom up. We had blessed in every shape and form since we found out Stella was going to arrive
into our lives. We still had the cottage and I hired Luke to keep an eye on it as we were now living an hour away. Jake had been the best husband to me by making sure we had the home to provide for his daughter and me. It was perfect.

I was able to be a stay at home mom to Stella and we had thoughts of me going back to work, but Jake wasn’t the only one with news.

“Your raise and promotion won’t be the only thing we’re celebrating.” I rubbed his shoulder with a sly grin spread wide across my face.

  “No?”

  “I’m pregnant.” I shyly said.

“Yeah?” His eyes lit up again but even brighter than the first time I’d told him I was pregnant. He enjoyed being a father so much that it just clarified that my decision on being him with for the rest of my life was the best decision I’d ever make. He was great to Stella, he went above and beyond his call of duty and gave her the best life he could. He worked his ass off to provide for us and it was finally paying off.

“Yes!” I squealed with so much excitement from tonight I could barely stand it.

“Today was just filled with great news.” He hugged me again, rubbing my belly as he stepped back. “I love you and I love the nugget that’s in there now.”

Stella came running into the kitchen and I lifted her up on the counter. Her hands were full of chalk somehow and both of us just laughed. I took the wipes on the counter and got it all off while she laughed like she thought it was funny. She was totally Jake’s daughter.

This was the life. The family life. I had the best husband I could ask for, the best house we could live in with more room to grow, and the sweetest daughter that we’re raising just how I’d imagine. Now that we had another on the way, life could only get better from here on out. Jake and Sadie Dunn were complete.
