The Love Pill Page 21

By the end of my vows, a single tear had made its way down on Lexi’s cheek and I mimicked her, by gently swiping it away.

Even with everything we said, there were still some things that we couldn’t phrase. But that didn’t mean they were left unspoken.

With our words, we promised each other love.

With our gestures, we showed each other love. With this marriage, not a single day would go by where we had to wipe away our own tears.

The priest gave us our moment, then nodded in content and addressed us both, one after the other.

‘Lexi Zellichman, do you take Cara Hemlock to be your lawfully wedded wife?’ he asked her and she could only barely let him finish his sentence.

‘I do!’ she interrupted him, her eyes sparkling with excitement and promise of adventure.

  Then he turned to me.

‘Cara Hemlock, do you take Lexi Zellichman to be your lawfully wedded wife?’ he asked me.

‘I do.’ I sighed happily, softly squeezing her hands with mine.

‘The rings?’ the priest spoke, motioning Manual to come closer, who was holding the rings for us. He opened the box and looked at us, pride beaming off his face.

We both took a thin, golden ring out and while we placed it on each other's finger, we spoke in unison, making the same promise.

‘With this ring, I marry you.

  With my loving heart.

  With my willing body.

  And with my eternal soul.’

Then the priest finally declared us lawfully married and without waiting for his permission, I tugged Lexi closer to me and we shared our first kiss as wife and wife. And I will tell you right now, that kiss tasted oh so very sweet.

Our lips met and the feeling that rushed through my body is one I can’t accurately describe. It felt familiar and new at the same time. Like pure ecstasy running untainted through my veins, setting me on fire while feeding me electricity. It sent tingles and goosebumps up my spine, but yet it warmed me completely, like a warm hug in a cold winters night.

It was everything you could ever want or need from a kiss. And it was the only kiss I ever wanted or needed for the rest of my life.

  About a Sunday Morning

  Cara Zellichman

  ‘Rrrrrrr…Zzzzzz…Rrrrrrrr…Zzzzz…’

I sleepily opened one eye and scrunched my nose, leering at the sleeping figure by my side.

‘Sweetie…You are snoring again…’ I groaned, rubbing my eyes and clearing my throat.

‘Rrrrr…Zzzz…’ she snored one more time and then, silence.

I happily rolled onto my side, closing my eyes and smacking my lips, ready for some more sleep. But I had rejoiced too quickly.

‘RRRRRRR…Zzzzzz.’ I heard from next to me and I yawned loudly, stretching out my limbs, turning towards my wife. I never understood how such a tiny person could make such a loud noise.

I also couldn’t understand how it only woke me up in the morning and how I didn’t hear a single peep when I fell asleep or during the night. It was like her snoring triggered my morning alarm.

I glanced at the clock and nodded to myself. Yes, right on time. As soon as it was past 8 am, I would hear Lexi’s snoring.

Another yawn escaped and I snuggled into my wife from behind, wrapping my arms around her and tenderly kissing her on her shoulder blade.

She softly groaned and rolled around, facing me. With the lines of her pillow still embedded in her cheek and eyes still foggy from the sleep, she was still the most beautiful thing I ever saw.

‘Goodmorning, sweetie.’ I softly said, kissing her on the tippy of her nose.

‘Mmmmm…Morning.’ she sluggishly replied, a faint smile playing on her lips. She snuggled herself further into my arms and promptly fell asleep, nestled on my collarbone.

I couldn’t contain the grin stretching on my face and just hugged her tighter, falling back asleep too.

We slept for another two full hours and only got out off bed when the sun tickled our noses through the window on our ceiling.

‘We need to do laundry.’ Lexi sighed, looking in our dresser as she dug through a pile of socks. ‘Am all out of underwear.’

A sly smirk appeared on my lips and I snuck up on her, embracing her from behind. ‘Then maybe you should just go commando today.’ I suggested, my eyes twinkling in anticipation.

She moaned when I kissed her gently behind her earlobe and let herself fall back into me.

‘Hmmm…I just might.’ she moaned, tilting her head as to expose her soft neck to me. Of course, I placed down more kisses and playfully sucked on her earlobe.

‘Sounds like a fantastic idea.’ I agreed, spinning her around so I could kiss her properly.

We greeted each other with the familiarity of an old married couple, but let our lips dance with the passion of new lovers. The perfect combination.

The thrill that ran through my body, just from being near her, was indescribable. I wished I could save every single kiss from her, because I just couldn’t get enough of them.

I just couldn’t get enough of her.

Her kisses tasted of love and she smelled like commitment. Two things that before I met her, would have scared the crap out of me. But with her, it made perfect sense.

Like that last piece you need to complete a puzzle, but can’t find. You look for it everywhere on the table, on the floor, in the box, under the chair and just when you are about to give up and bang your head against the wall in frustration, you realise it was laying right in front of you the whole time.

And the satisfaction of finding that little piece and completing the puzzle, that was how I felt about Lexi. But then in hundred-, no, in thousand fold.

‘I am hungry.’ my puzzle piece announced, smacking her lips as if she was tasting imaginary food. ‘Mmmm. There is still cake from yesterday.’

I chuckled and rolled my eyes at her. ‘You are gonna eat cake for breakfast?’

‘Yes, for sure.’ she grinned, grabbing my hand and pulling me downstairs with her, excited about breakfast. I happily followed her down and spanked her ass lightly as we walked into the kitchen.

Our Sundays were pretty standard, but we basked in our routine and each other.

The coffee machine made a loud, gurgling noise as I turned it on and the porcelain cups clang against each other as I grabbed them from our shelf. I placed the cups down on the counter, a green mug for my wife and a red one for me.

We used those cups every morning and I always put them back on the top shelf, which was a bit too high for Lexi to reach. But she didn’t mind, since I always made sure she had all the coffee she wanted.

And in return, she toasted bread for me and poured the orange juice. In the beginning, I would toast the bread, but I even managed to set the toaster on fire, so I wisely stayed away from that hellish machine.

But Lexi tamed it with her gentle caresses and for her, it always made perfectly crispy toast.

With browned toast for me and a slice of chocolate cake for her, we sat down at our little round table. The smell of coffee filled our kitchen and we could hear a bird chirping from our garden. A peaceful Sunday morning, just how we liked it.

Afterwards, I cleared the table and Lexi went out to get the paper, which didn’t have any news, but we liked it for the crossword.

I would put in our laundry, since she hated it, but she would do the dishes and save me from wrinkly fingers. She would feed our kitty and I would water the flowers. As I dried and put our plates, mugs, and cutlery back, she would catch up on our bills. I would run a vacuum through our house, and she would take out the trash.

We worked in synergy, taking up the chores the other truly hated and after we were all done, we would snuggle up on our couch. Lexi would hand me the paper and I would pull a blanket over us both.

After a couple of minutes, Tittle would jump in my wife’s lap and we would make the crossword together, surprising the other with our knowledge about the most random and absurd thi
ngs.

We would always smile and promise that we’d spend every Sunday like that, but as much as we believed that to be true, it wouldn’t be.

As we came further along, Sunday became the day we would help Ruben out and babysit his beautiful daughter, Elly.

And then later on, it became the day we would have Manuel over, so he could lend us a hand with our new baby boy, Brent.

More Sundays passed and for a moment, it turned back into a routine similar to the one Lexi and I had before. But this time, I filled another mug with milk for Brent, and my wife toasted an extra slice of bread.

At times, Ruben and Elly joined us, for breakfast at the Zellichmans, and we welcomed them with open arms every time.

And after even more Sundays, we filled a fourth seat at our round table. Brent became in charge of the bread and Lexi would prepare the baby food for Oliver, our second son. And I, as always, filled our two mugs with coffee, a mug with milk and I warmed up the bottle in the microwave.

As our boys grew up, Sunday mornings became calmer again. They flew through high school and before we knew it, they were off to college and started their own lives.

For a moment, Lexi and I thought the hectic part was over, but we weren’t prepared for the full house we’d have when Oliver came to visit us and Brent started to bring his wife and then kids along for Sunday brunch.

And just when Lexi and I thought we had gotten the hang of that, Oliver and his husband adopted a kid and soon enough, our little round table wasn’t even big enough to seat our grandchildren.

But we loved it. Lexi loved fussing over our kids and later, our grandkids. She became the terrific mother I always knew she would be.

So no, we didn’t spend all our Sundays in peace and quiet, like we once thought we would. But all of them were filled with happiness, joy and family.

Again, we made a promise to each other. To always fill Sundays with love.

Regardless if our house was filled with the chatter of children, or if it was just the meowing of our cat, not one Sunday went by that Lexi and I didn’t spend together and we weren’t planning on breaking that record.

And let me tell you one thing, just like the promises of our vows, we kept this one for the remainder of our lives.
