An Unconventional Widow Page 28

by Georgina Devon

He thrust forwards until he thought he would die from the tight heat of her. Her gasp of pleasure joined his as she rose to meet him. Their hot, wet skin met and slipped together in a passion that mounted with each penetration.

Her moans filled his mouth, her nails dug into his shoulders, urging him to greater heights. He withdrew, thrust forward again and again. Their bodies moved together as though they had been made for one another.

She sucked his tongue deep, and he felt her contractions start. She pulsed around him, pulling him inside so deep he thought he had died and gone to heaven. Then he joined her. The ache in his loins became such exquisite delight he was not sure where he ended and she began.

Only much later, still sheathed inside her, did he come back to himself. Propped on his elbows, he gazed down at her. ‘I thought you were going to take me so deep inside yourself we would become one,’ he murmured, his breathing rapid.

She smiled. ‘I wanted to consume you,’ she said, her voice deep and raspy. ‘I wanted to have what you were doing to me never end.’

He shifted and realised he was ready again. ‘It won’t end just yet, love.’ He moved so that she gasped and the small of his back tightened in pleasure.

She moaned and matched the motion of her hips to his.

Later still, exhausted but happy, he rolled to her side and pulled her into his arms. ‘I love you, Lady Spitfire.’

She smiled at him. ‘Lady Fitzsimmon.’

He watched her. ‘What happened to your independence?’

‘Nothing. I finally realise I can be independent and married. It took me a long time to understand that.’

He smoothed a strand of silvered hair from her forehead. ‘I didn’t help with my own situation.’

She caught his hand and turned her head to kiss his palm. ‘You are a man of honour. You did the right thing.’ Her smile broke through. ‘And we were fortunate enough that St. Cyrus was also a man of honour.’

More cynical than she, he added, ‘And in love with Elizabeth.’

‘That too.’ She put a finger to his lips. ‘But enough of that. Make love to me again.’

He gave her a mock look of shock. ‘Again?’

She pressed her lips to him. ‘How else am I to get pregnant with your child before we leave this room?’

Joy and love filled him so that tears sprang to his eyes. ‘You are my life, Annabell. I love you more than I ever thought possible. If we have a child, then I will be doubly blessed.’

Smiling, he pulled her on top and entered her safe haven.

She bent to kiss him, this man who meant more to her than life. ‘Just love me, Hugo. Just love me.’
