“I’m good Ada. I rang your Dad. I wanted to talk to you I’m worried about you” he said his brow creasing slightly.

“About me? What are you worried about?” she asked.

“Ada I know there is some heavy shit about to go down and although I don’t understand it all I’m connected to you enough to know that you are in real danger” he said.

“Did my Father tell you to say this?” she asked.

Travis shook his head and he clasped her hand tighter.

“Ada no, please. You need to listen to me. It’s hard for me to believe and I know that it will be hard for you to believe.” He shuffled in his seat and looked Ada in the eye. “I know I no longer have any Paranatural in me anymore. But I still feel you.”

Travis shifted in his seat again.

“What do you mean you feel me?” she asked.

Travis blushed slightly and began to fidget with his hands.

“I mean I feel some of what you feel. I knew you were having sex with Dane. I felt it. I felt your pleasure. When you are tired I feel your exhaustion. When you are hungry I feel your hunger. I feel you Ada. I don’t get it. I don’t understand it. But it’s like inside my head I’m watching and feeling everything you do like a movie” Travis said.

Ada felt her jaw slacken as she stared at him trying to comprehend everything he was saying to her.

“You knew I was having sex?” she said in disbelief.

“That’s what you heard out of that?” he asked with a sly laugh.

Ada put her hands over her face and leant her head onto her knees. Could her life possibly get anymore weird? Was it not enough that she be a Paranatural? A daughter of a Vampire Nephilim and a daughter of a Witch. But now this human could feel everything she felt. Every hunger pain, every orgasm, every headache, every dream; he knew about. How was this even possible?

“I’m sorry Ada, but it was getting too much. I needed to let you know. I wanted to come to you when you were with Dane, I felt so jealous. I couldn’t seem to contain it, but I wanted to kill him. I hated him. But then I saw you kill him. And I’ve never felt so happy.” He said shaking his head. “I don’t know what is going on Ada.”

Ada shook her head looking up at him.

“I can’t explain it Travis. I’ve never experienced anything like this before” she said.

“I can explain it” Morrigan said from the doorway. “Sorry I know I shouldn’t have been eavesdropping”

Ada and Travis both jumped and sat up to look at her. She came into the room and wedged herself in between Ada and Travis, patting them both on the legs.

“It doesn’t happen often. But Travis you’re special. Do you know your family history?” Morrigan asked standing again and going to the bookshelf rifling through the books. “Aha here it is” she exclaimed.

“Well do you know your family history?” she asked Travis again.

  Travis shook his head.

“I only know my Mother Mae and my Father Alexander. My Mum said that her parents were killed when she was seventeen and that’s when Kade and Merza took her in” he said.

“So you don’t know that you have any Paranaturals in your family?” Morrigan asked.

  Travis shook his head again.

“I thought Paranaturals and humans couldn’t procreate” Ada said.

Morrigan nodded her head again as she sat down in between Travis and Ada again.

“You’re right, but as the saying says there is an exception to every rule” Morrigan said as she flicked through pages of information before finding the page she was looking for. She sat back and pointed at the picture.

On the page was a hand drawn picture of a woman who looked similar to Mae, her blonde hair hung loosely around her shoulders, her blue eyes sparkled.

“That looks like my Mum” Travis said.

  Morrigan nodded.

“Yes. It’s not her. But she is the exception. This here Travis is your grandmother; Mae’s Mother.” Morrigan explained.

Ada and Travis stared at her in shock.

“Oh shut your mouths. Now listen. Your grandmother’s name was Dena, she was a Witch. She fell in love with your grandfather who was human. But somehow and no one can explain it because it happens so rarely she was able to conceive Mae. Unfortunately, not so much now, but back then when a Paranatural joined with a human and lived as a human it was seen as an abomination and Dena was cast out of her coven.” Morrigan explained.

“So my Mother is a Witch?” Travis asked.

  Morrigan shook her head.

“No only Dena was. But it meant that Mae and her descendants would have special powers. Your brothers might be faster, they might be smarter, they could see better in the dark. And in your case you have a psychic connection with other Paranaturals. You can read their energies. Not as strong as Ada can, you wouldn’t be able to see auras. But with your soulmate you will be able to feel everything she feels and experiences.” Morrigan said.

Travis and Ada looked at each other.

“So we are soul mates?” Ada said pointing between her and Travis.

Morrigan snorted out a laugh before slapping them both on the thigh.

“We don’t choose our soul mates; they are already decided for us. It’s just that some of us never get an opportunity to meet them. But Travis, you would have been with Ada through many centuries. And will be with her for centuries to come” Morrigan said with a smile.

“But how can I be with her for centuries. I’m human, I’m going to die and she will continue to live” he asked.

“You will. There will be a way” Morrigan said before shutting the book with a slam and standing up abruptly.

“Your Father will be here soon Ada.” Morrigan said as she left the room.

Travis reached for the book that Morrigan had and opened it to the page that Dena had been on.

“My Mum never even speaks about her parents. She only ever said that her Father was abusive and she had to get away. She was glad when he was killed” Travis said glancing at Ada.

Ada nodded and leaned on his shoulder reading the page that they had opened. The book said that Dena was a Witch, a cousin to Merza and Morrigan; she had met her future husband, a human by the name of Robert. She had a secret affair with him but was found out when she fell pregnant with Mae. Dena’s Mother, Abigail, fought to be allowed to keep her in the coven but she was overruled and Dena was ordered to leave. Ada stopped reading and watched Travis chewing on his lip as he read. He stopped and suddenly stared at Ada.

“It says that Dena and Robert were killed by a Vampire” he said.

“Where?” Ada asked looking at where Travis pointed.

She scanned the page looking for a name of the Vampire. But it said nothing. It didn’t mention who or whether the Vampire was brought to justice.

“How did your Dad meet my Mum?” Travis asked.

“He always told me that she was on the street, she offered him her body and blood for money. But he brought her home to my Mum and let her live there as their own” Ada said.

“Was her Mum and Dad alive still then do you know?” Travis asked frowning.

Ada shook her head at him and absently ran her hands through his hair.

“I’m sorry Travis, I don’t know. But surely my Father wouldn’t have killed her Mother. She was an innocent. That would have broken the law” Ada replied.

Travis nodded and leaned his forehead against Ada’s, before kissing her on the nose.

  “Soulmate” he laughed.

Ada smiled at him and licked his bottom lip, which instantly caused him to close his eyes and groan lightly. Travis and Ada sat in silence playing with what Morrigan said to them and everything they had read. As if Ada didn’t have enough on her plate she thought. Ada rubbed her hands over her face before sighing and standing up and heading out the door with Travis close behind her. Soul mates, she mused to herself.

Ada always knew that there was something special about hers and Travis’s relationship, but she had never picke
d them as soulmates. She couldn’t help but wonder if the only thing that stopped her from seeing him as anything more than a friend was because he was human and she didn’t think it was possible. The more Ada thought about their relationship throughout the years the more she could see the writing on the wall and she had to admit that she thought Travis to be incredibly handsome and the way his brown eyes sparkled when he looked at her did turn her insides to jelly. They always had. Often as a child she found herself staring at him. She just couldn’t help but think it was the wrong time for a romance. Look what her quick fling with Dane had gotten her into. One dead Warlock.

Her mind was reeling with memories that threatened to overwhelm her. The times where Travis would spit on her knees when she skinned them to make them feel better, the times where he stood up to bullies for her or when he helped her climb trees by holding her. Those times they hid in their special place deep in the woods talking about their dreams.

Ada couldn’t help but think of how much her heart broke when he got his first girlfriend, a big buxom blonde named Chantelle. Ada hated her. Not for any particular reason except that she took Travis away from her. The more Ada thought about it, the more she could see that what Morrigan spoke was true. It was the times that he would be able to read her mind or when he would just show up at the right time because he had a feeling she needed him, all of these things were proof that what Morrigan spoke was the truth. Ada sighed as she rounded the corner and just as if she needed any proof instantly Travis reached up and gently caressed her back. She let a small chuckle escape her lips.

“What are you giggling at?” Travis said with a smile.

Ada turned to face him as they stood in the hallway.

“I was just thinking about what Morrigan said and I was going through all the memories, like how much I hated Chantelle and how badly you beat up James when he pushed me off the slide at school.” she said instinctively reaching out to touch his arm and watched Travis’s face light up as the memories flooded him also.

“You were laughing at the memory of me beating up James? That snot nosed brat had it coming” Travis said.

Ada snorted out a big belly laugh and shook her head.

“It was funny but that’s not what made me laugh. It was that I had literally just thought how you seemed to always know when I needed you and as soon as I thought it you reached up and caressed my back” she said with another chuckle.

Travis grinned as he slid his arm around her waist and pulled her in close to his chest. Ada ran her hands up and down his arms, feeling his muscles ripple under his shirt. She certainly never remembered them as a child.

“I’ve grown a little since then” Travis said.

Ada widened her eyes in shock and shook her head. Travis’s grin grew wider.

“It was just a good guess, you were examining my muscles far too hard” he laughed.

Ada threw her head back in a laugh as she stepped out of his arms and took his hand.

  Chapter Eighteen

“Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind” Shakespeare.

As Ada reached the kitchen Kade and Karla were walking in the backdoor. Ada looked up at the clock to see it was three thirty in the morning. Karla mustn’t sleep, Ada thought to herself. Kade looked Travis up and down and gave a sly smile before looking at Ada. She raised her eyebrow in a challenge and Kade wiped his hand over his mouth to hide his smile. Karla came forward and wrapped her arms around Ada.

“How are you feeling?” Karla asked.

Ada smiled and hugged Karla back.

“I’m doing well. So do we have a plan?” Ada asked pulling the chair out and sitting down at the table.

Kade, Karla and Travis all followed suit.

“We do. And it means we need you” Karla spoke.

  Ada nodded.

“Ok what do you want me to do?” she asked.

Karla cleared her throat and opened the folder that she was holding.

“Word has it that Abaddon discovered Dane’s body this morning and he is furious” Karla spoke.

“Yes I imagine he would be” Ada replied with sadness in her voice.

She felt Travis stiffen beside her and she reached under the table to take his hand. She rubbed her thumb against his palm and sent a pleasure feeling to relax him. She felt his hand tighten and his fingers entwine with hers. Her stomach twisted. It felt right and brought her such comfort, but her feelings were still so twisted. He is human. Kade raised an eyebrow.

‘Don’t ask’ Ada said into his mind.

Kade nodded with a wicked smile. He loved nothing more than to torment his daughter. It was a Vampire trait it seemed.

“Ok so how do I fit into this?” Ada asked, turning her attention back to Karla.

“Well I don’t want to do this, but I’ve been assured that you will be fine. But we need to use you to bring him out. He is going to want revenge. He will work it out soon who killed Dane and he will come after you” Karla said.

“How will he know that Ada killed Dane?” Travis asked, his fingers tightening on her hand in a protective manner.

“We will tell him” Karla responded.

The response even shocked Ada, but the feeling she got from Travis and the sudden fury that seemed to flow from his hand into hers said that he wasn’t expecting that response either.

“Absolutely not, there is no way I’m going to send her like a lamb to slaughter” Travis roared as he stood up, knocking the chair backwards onto the floor.

Kade stood up and came to where Travis stood. He put his hand on Travis’s shoulder.

“She will be fine. She is a strong Witch. I believe she can do this and you know that I would never send her if I thought she couldn’t handle it” Kade spoke gently.

“Yes and that’s why your wife and her Mother is dead” Travis spat.

Instantly Kade’s aura shot a deep red, his eyes narrowed and his face blushed with anger.

  “You know nothing” Kade roared.

“I know more than you think I do” Travis said squaring up his shoulders to Kade.

Kade took a step back. Ada stood. She had never seen Travis so brazen, especially in front of Kade. He had previously cowered. But now something was overtaking him.

“Travis? What’s going on?” Ada spoke, reaching out to touch his arm.

Travis turned and took her shoulders in his hands.

“Ada I can’t let you do this. You heard your Aunt, we are soul mates. You may not believe it yet. But I know it. I know you know it. I can feel it. And I won’t lose you” he said, a single tear dripping from his eye.

  Ada shook her head.

“Travis I believe what she said. But you need to understand if I don’t do this, I will never avenge my Mother’s death. Abaddon will never stay locked away. And if he isn’t destroyed he will do his best to destroy the human world. And that’s not something I can stand by and watch” she spoke.

Travis nodded and pulled her into his chest. She rested her head on his shoulder as he circled his arms around her waist. She closed her eyes; it felt so right to be in his arms. She didn’t want to leave. She didn’t want to fight Abaddon. But she knew she had to do it. She didn’t want to finally discover her soul mate to have him potentially ripped from her by her own death.

“We will all have her back Travis” Kade said.

Ada looked up to see Kade with his hand on Travis’s shoulder. His face had softened, all the anger had disappeared. Travis nodded and stepped back from Ada.

“I know you are strong. I know that you can do this. I just don’t want to lose you. Ada I need to come with you” he said.

“How? You are a human.” Ada said.

Travis nodded and seemed lost in thought.

“Ada I can help you, I’m sure of it. If we are soulmates doesn’t that mean that you should be able to feel my feeling’s too?” he asked.

“Yes she can” Morrigan said. “Sorry eavesdropping again”

  The four of them turned
to see Morrigan standing in the doorway of the kitchen. She stepped in and pulled the seat out next to Karla.

“Hello dear” she said to Karla smiling at her. “Ada you can feel Travis just as he feels you. The two of you are able to communicate just as you and your Father can. But for you and Travis it is on a higher level. You and your Dad can communicate with words and negative emotions. But Travis and you have a stronger connection. Your emotions will flow through one another; you have to consciously switch each other off.”

“So how come this is only new? Why didn’t we feel this as children?” Ada asked.

Morrigan reached out and took Ada’s hand as she sat back down beside her aunt.

“You could, it just wasn’t as strong. Don’t you remember telling me how you hated it whenever Travis went out with girls because you just knew they were being intimate and it hurt you?” Morrigan said.

Ada felt her face instantly blush as Travis and Kade both wore identical grins. She turned and looked between the two of them and shook her head.

“But I haven’t been able to feel him as an adult. He’s had other females in his life since then and I haven’t felt that same anger” Ada said.

  Morrigan nodded her head.

  “You blocked him.” She replied.

“So how do I unblock him then? How do we make it so we both are connected equally?” Ada asked.

“Well with a ceremony” Morrigan said.

“Oh like last night?” Karla asked her eyes twinkling with excitement.

“Not quite, this is a bit more intensive” Morrigan explained. “And it mostly involves Ada and Travis”

Karla slumped in the chair which bought a smile to Ada’s face, she must have really enjoyed the previous night, Ada thought.

“Ok so what is the ceremony?” Ada asked.

“Well it’s a joining ceremony” Morrigan replied.

  Ada felt her face blush.

  “Oh” Ada said.

“What is a joining ceremony?” Travis asked.

“You’re about to get lucky son” Kade replied with a snort, clapping Travis on the shoulder.

Travis’s eyes bulged and Ada blushed deeper again as the realisation suddenly hit him. She watched as Travis stood to his full height of over six foot and beam, he puffed his chest out like a rooster and Ada could see that he really liked the idea of this ceremony. Kade snorted another laugh and held his fist out for the inaugural men’s fist bump. Ada shook her head and ran her hand through her hair. Morrigan clucked her tongue with annoyance at the immature behaviour going on.
