White and I looked at each other guiltily.
“Alex, can I trust you not to tell the other partners about mine and White’s arrangement?”
“Oh, of course.” I was relieved.
My father and White retired to the living room to watch some television while Mom and I cleaned up.
“We haven’t had a chance to talk about all of this yet. Are you still mad at me?” she asked.
“No, Mother. I understand why you couldn’t tell me. I was more shocked than mad anyway.”
“You didn’t think your mother had it in her, did you?”
“Yes, Mom. I had always wondered why you had me. You were capable of so much more.”
She got tears in her eyes and pulled me into a hug. “Oh, sweetheart. I’ve never done anything more important, more fulfilling, more exciting or more wonderful than have you.”
My mom is the coolest mom, ever.
